Victim calls Cypress HS teen's suspension "crazy"(Three day suspension UP DATE)

FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Cypress Lake High School teen who had a gun pointed at him last week says he would be dead if not for the quick action of another student, who was suspended despite disarming the gunman and being called a hero.

The victim, who Fox 4 is not identifying, spoke out after the school suspended the teen who wrestled the .22 caliber RG-14 revolver out of the hands of the 15-year-old gun wielding suspect on a school bus last Tuesday.

"Do you think he would have killed you?," asked Fox 4 reporter Matt Grant.

"Yeah," the victim said.

Nearly a week after the incident, the victim says says he's still shaken. He recalls the suspect telling him he was "going to shoot and kill me."

According to the police report, "several other students" helped disarm the suspect who was "pointing the gun directly" at the victim and "threatening to shoot him."

"He was going to shoot him," said the teen who wrestled the gun out of the suspect's hands. "Point blank."

On Friday, Fox 4 interviewed the 16-year-old high school student who many are now calling a hero. He says is just a "regular going" who did what he "had to do." Fox 4 has agreed not to identify the teen because he fears for his safety.

"He raised the gun again, that's when I jumped him and we started fighting for the gun," the teen recalled. "And I got it from him."

Fox 4 caught up with school board member Don Armstrong who is conflicted about this case.

"Do you stand by the decision to suspend this student?," asked Grant.

"I stand behind if a student lies," said Armstrong, "there's got to be consequences."

That consequence was a three day suspension that Armstrong admits might have been excessive.

"I know that he saved a student's life and he's a hero, period," said Armstrong. "That suspension needs to be expunged off his record."

On another thread, MSN covered that the reason for the suspension was the student’s refusal to talk to police about the incident (I don’t blame him, not without a lawyer present)

This sounds like the Wapato School District! This is in Wapeto Washington...in easte.

Becky Shelton was attacked by a student, on Friday.

She tried to call for assistance for three minutes, the phone was not answered.rn Washington

The Pricipal and the Vice principle are in CYA mode now.

The police were never called, by the pricipal, Becky went to the Police Station after she left the Emergency Room, the police were never called by the powers that be at the school.

But they deny that now, and in the 15 minute emergency meeting with the teachers the teachers were told NOT TO SPEAK TO THE MEDIA.

I will do a play by play on this later...am too fired up right now to be coherent.

I would speak off the record if I worked there. Just because corrupt and stupid leaders tell you to clam up about their corrupt messes, doesn’t mean you should. Especially true in schools when it involves hiding crime and criminals from the parents and police.

The hero is smart...there is a time to talk to school officials and then there is the time to talk to (any)officials with a lawyer present.

The school violated the hero’s rights up one way and down the other. They had no right/business interrogating him.

I am just 55 miles from Wapato and haven’t heard anything about this. Guess the media blackout is working. Take care.

I just read about some students that were suspended for two days for beating up a twelve year old. He died.
