Posted on 03/06/2013 5:11:21 PM PST by Timber Rattler
US President Barack Obama has invited a group of Republican senators for dinner in an effort to advance budget negotiations, the White House has said.
Not invited were Republican leaders, with whom Mr Obama's budget talks in recent weeks had stalled.
Wednesday's dinner follows several phone calls the president has held in recent days with Republican senators, some of whom have responded warmly to the gesture.
"This is how you solve hard problems," South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham told the Associated Press.
The move suggests Mr Obama hopes to consolidate support among a group of Republicans who appear prepared to negotiate, analysts say.

Divide and conquer.
Lindsey’s hoping for the presidential reach-around.
Who was invited??
What’s on the menu, harry reid says seniors and families are starving in Nevada.
Who was invited??
The African communist scumbag is trolling for liberal Republicans. The list of his invitees would likely read like a "who's who" of scumbags who need to be primaried out of existence, but aside from usual suspect Lindsey Graham, the AP story offers no other names.
Lindsey’s problem hasn’t been hard in YEARS.
Dinner with the Devil.
I know Burr was going to be there.
I think it’s safe to say Collins from Maine will be there.
She may even have a price tag on her hat like Minnie Pearl used to wear, only this one will say what she will sell her vote for.
I want names. These people should be supporting and helping Mr. Rand and save the “compromise” lie. They are RINO’s.
Maybe they’ll bring a doggie bag over to Rand in the Senate Chamber.....
Divide and conquer, that’s what they do. This is an opportunity to see which media, reporters, and institutions do Obama’s bidding, and which RINO’s are willing to sell out.. It’s all good.
I think I saw these Republicans under a freeway overpass with a sign that read: “You can have my vote for food”
Sens. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga.; Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.; Dan Coats, R-Ind.; Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; Richard Burr, R-N.C.; Mike Johanns, R-Neb.; Pat Toomey, R-Pa.; John Hoeven, R-N.D.; and Corker, Johnson, McCain and Graham.
So far we have:
1. Lindsey Graham (known)
2. Richard Burr (good guess)
3. Susan Collins (good guess)
I am guessing Lamar Alexander can be added to the list.
That strategy is gonna go over like a fart in church.
Exactly!! Notice Rand has just a handful of Senators giving him a hand today. Rino’s go to WH. Doesn’t take a scholar to figure out who the cast of characters are.
Hoeven and Johanns are surprising to me. The rest are known squishes, and Toomey is a faggot hugger to boot. Very surprised Lamar Alexander and Susan Collins are not on that list, but maybe Ubama figures he’s already got them in the bag, and they’ll go along with this crowd anyway.
Ronald Reagan used to breakfast with Dem Speaker of the House Tip O’Niell once a week....
——but then, Ronald Reagan was a classy President able to cope with opposition, ....which is something we don’t have right now.
Juan McCain will probably be the headwaiter.
This is just a charade so he can say he’s trying to find a solution to the problem he created. He’s playing these RINOs like a dime store kazoo.
Coburn got bit real bad by the “walking Dead”!! He will be run out of Oklahoma very soon. McAmesty should be a Demorat. Limpy Gramnesty makes me puke. In my opinion , he lives with his mommy and likes boys a lot. Who are these self appointed “leaders”? To HELL with them. We want CONSERVATIVES!!!
Spending tax money for a party during the sequester...
Reminds me of a Poe story- Masque Of The Red Death.
Exactly, Reagan would dine with leaders, not losers.
Awsome analogy!! Loved VP in the ‘64 movie.
That cross around your neck. Is it only a decoration, or are you a true Christian believer? Lol. Price was priceless. Sorry for the bad pun.
Howdeeeeeeeeee! Minnie Pearl is a hoot Collins not so much.
“This is how you solve hard problems,” South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham told the Associated Press.
Little Lindsey must have some sort of promise from Karl Rove to be acting so confident. Graham’s normal routine is to pretend to be 100% conservative in the last 2 years of a Senate term.
Now that Tim Scott (who was the South Carolinian who I envisioned as handing Lindsey his hat in the 2014 Republican primary) is no longer available, I hope the SC conservatives put up some strong conservative opponents to challenge Graham in the 2014 primary. If, in that primary, Lindsey doesn’t meet the threshold needed to avoid a runoff he would be dead meat in the runoff against a good conservative opponent.
I’ll be contributing to at least one of his primary opponents. Hell, I so want this weak sister gone I might just pack up my family and move to South Carolina so we can add our votes and volunteer efforts to his opposition.
My favoprite of his performances, but he always gave more than merely a sufficient exposition of his character.
And here he is on radio as Charteris’ “The Saint” (Simon Templar). http://archive.org/details/TheSaintVincentPriceOTR
But Poe’s timelessness and his ability to depict the utter foolishness of Man!
Thanks! I’m listening now while I pay bills. Price is timeless.
Yeh RINO night at the Whitehut. Too bad McShame and Miss Lindsay couldn’t be bothered to get over to the Senate to back Rand Paul up today.
What Obama really said was that he was having several Republican senators for dinner.
I would like to thank you all for coming tonight. Due to the Sequester, which you folks created, we will be having Pizza’s delivered from the corner Pizzeria. If each of you would put $10.00 in the envelopes provided....
All I can say is I saw Sen Johnson afterwards on Greta and he looked like he could not be trusted. Wouldn’t ever look the camera in the eye and to me looked like he sold his soul to the devil tonight.
Obviously I don’t know what happened tonight at that dinner but I was very disturbed by the change I saw in Sen. Johnson since I saw him a few days ago on Greta.
..the good news for some of you old geezers is Monica is delivering it
