Sen. Rand Paul ended his self-described filibuster against the confirmation of President Obama's nominee to lead the CIA early Thursday - at 12:39 EST -- just short of thirteen hours after the Kentucky Republican and tea party favorite began speaking.

But Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, also a Kentucky Republican, said he would continue to oppose Brennan's confirmation and try to keep the debate going.

After Paul yielded the floor, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., filed a motion to cut off debate on Brennan's nomination and bring it up for a vote....

My thoughts, exactly!

He’s becoming quite predictable.

Cheers!

There are more than a few people here to do little but wait for any news about an elected official, and then attack them for not “doing enough”. Then they sit back in their P.Js, waiting for adulation from the crowds for their “insight”.

It is a trivially easy thing to attack people, and it is funny how people seem to think doing so is of some great credit.

But there is a lot of backslapping in forums like this, and some people need the validation.

I believe “Al Quds” simply is Jerusalem in Arabic and Farsi. I certainly don’t refer to Jerusalum as Al Quds. I still occasionally refer to it a “Yerushalaim Shel Zahar” (Jerusalem of Gold). OK. Thumbs down on Brennan. If he did indeed embrace Islam then he is indeed an apostate. I think I read that he went to Fordham. Tsk Tsk.

Rand Paul is Senator from Kentucky and Ted Cruz is Senator from TEXAS.

I'm aware who they represent. I was added the Senators from Utah and Kansas who's names I couldn't think of at the time.

Sorry, but Paul’s vote for Hagel has just really soured me on his motives.

When Rand Paul has a mea culpa moment and apologizes for that despicable vote, I may give some thought to joining my conservative friends in singing his praises. Until then, he can pound sand for all I care. McCain and Graham can have him.

Paul is a stick in the eyes of the DC elite. The disgusting cynical and knowing apologists for tyranny and atrocity, sitting behind easy grins, excusing the worst sort of depravity and corruption with a wink and a smirk, secure in their faith that they are the new elite leaders and are thus exempt from the ‘solutions’ to messy problems represented by those of us who would resist the idea that our lives are not someone else’s property.
Finally, we come to the power-lusters themselves - the so-called ‘progressive’ elites, Bo, Holder, Piglosi, and Feinstein. These individuals are often driven by a profound self-hatred which they direct outwards and project onto humanity in general. Their own self-loathing drives their passion to subjugate and to destroy, thus opening the door to the commission and justification of the most unimaginable of atrocities and crimes against God, man, nature, justice and reason. Another species of power-luster seeks to impose their own pompous sense of moral rectitude upon a resisting and supposedly ignorant public. C. S. Lewis, writing in God in the Dock eloquently warned us about this last type: “Of all tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the ‘good’ of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybody progressive liberals. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

So what purpose did this filibuster serve? Did it allow McConnell to round up some votes against Brennan?

I’m not against what Cruz did, just wondering what it did in the long haul?

McLame and Linda hated it, so I am for it.
