It's not merely the amount of money at all that people resented, it's the very principle of having accumulated, accumulated in Venezuelan parlance to mean forcibly removed from others, that angers them. Money that belonged to others, landowners usurped of their property, money as intrinsically evil, avarice, greed, money as dirty, money the very poisoned fruit of the capitalist tree.
