The Republicans had better not squander the good will Sen. Rand Paul purchased for them in his filibuster over the Obama administration's potential use of armed drones to kill non-enemy combatants in America.
I am not simply referring to the constitutional issue of whether the president can engage in such acts, though that's very important. I believe the significance of Paul's filibuster transcends the drone issue. It was about challenging the administration's lawlessness and accountability across the board and his runaway spending and statism. It was about championing freedom, God-given rights and the Constitution.
Under questioning, Attorney General Eric Holder has simply refused to give a straight answer about these questions and acts as though the administration has a superior right to hold such matters close to the vest and as though Congress, let alone the American people, doesn't have a say in them or any right even to be apprised.
Paul's filibuster sparked an excitement and enthusiasm we haven't witnessed since the blue funk descended on conservative America after Obama's re-election. Twitter was on fire, and conservatives were positively energized.
I have sensed a general despondency among conservatives, born of their incredulity that voters could elect someone whose policies are so obviously damaging the country and who seems to continue to escape accountability for his actions. They have also been dispirited because they are skeptical to put it charitably that Republican officeholders are fighting for them.
But the Republicans' refusal to back down in the sequestration fight despite Obama's calculated, fraudulent predictions of apocalyptic consequences from sequester cuts has given conservatives some renewed sense that we're still in the game. Paul's 13-hour soliloquy has taken it, even if only temporarily, to a new level...

. /vote Tea Party...
Since Paul led the filibuster of Kerry and Hagel I guess he is the new leader. I am amazed that so many people forget last week when a new shiny appears.
Maybe it is time that we request our congress to do the right thing Censure the President of the US. The real right thing is to Impeach Him, but if asking the Congress Critters to Censure Him, it is possible that we can end the eternal campaign mode. if I am wrong let me know
Eric Holder pointed out there are exceptions.
What Rand Paul wants is an absolute ban on the use of drones in America.
I oppose that position. My concern is the safety of this country and its people.
I say no to giving Islamic terrorists and potential mass murderers a pass on American soil.
Careful. Rand was making the point that the Executive may not deprive a citizen of the U.S. in the U.S. who is not currently committing a crime of his life without due process.
You want that. Otherwise, Obama can Hellfire YOUR a$$ if he wakes up and feels like it. No checks, no balances, you’re dead.
So, let’s draw our lines so the Bill of Rights stands, eh?
Well said for the Bill of Rights!
They already did. McCain and Linda ranting and raving like lunatics. The House passing the CR without having the balls to stop the crazy nobamacare spending.
I feel sorry for Rand Paul. He put his heart and soul into this. And his peers are stabbing him in the back big time.
Having the Fed whack terrorists on U.S. soil without due process might sound good in theory...until Janet Nepolitano releases DHS’s new, expanded definition of “terrorist,” which includes Tea Party activists, “hoarders,” “preppers,” gun owners, “religious fanatics”....
Good point and you’re probably right. McStain and Windsey are joined at the hip and perfectly happy to support the turkey in the WH instead of conservatives in their own party.
If you think back to the 2008 Census, Obama had it transferre4d to the White House. During the 2008 precensus
collected the GPS location of every house that answered a census questionaire.Obama already has the GPS location of every citizen in that census.
Obama can secretely load that GPS location on a Drone’s nav system for anyone in that census data base. No onw would know, No oversight. That data is inside the White House.
Which is why I sent the census workers packing back in 2007 and 2008. I called them trespassers. inbvestigators without any warrant to search my home and sent them running. They did not even get the GPS location of my home. What I see today vindicates my action then, as insane as it seemed to my neighbors.
That is categorically false. Can you support that assertion?
Let’s try on a thought experiment to clarify the lines.
Suppose there have been many successful terrorist attacks agaist American shopping malls.
Some radical religious Americans have stated their approval in on-line chat forums. Several of these individuals come to the attention of authorities, who put drone surveillance on them.
No crime has yet been commited.
The drone spots 5 known American terrorist sympathizers load 2 semi-auto rifles each into a Suburban, and watches as they drive to a local mall.
The mall has a gun shop, and is not a gun-free zone. :-)
Maybe the guys are going in to outfit their scary looking guns with new optics for fun at the range. Maybe they’ll mow down the crowd.
The only force that can be brought to bear is the hellfire on the drone. Do you fry them, not knowing their intent?
My questions would be who are the authorities?
Why didn't they check out their suspicions in person instead of putting an armed drone up to surveil them?
Those “authorities” could be monitoring absolutely innocent law abiding American citizens.
No government agency should fry them not knowing their intent.
