Michigan: Scott Romney Considering Senate Bid

By Abby Livingston and Shira Toeplitz

Scott Romney, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s brother, is looking at running for retiring Democratic Sen. Carl Levin’s seat, according to a Michigan GOP source with first-hand knowledge of his interest.

The Republican is a Harvard-educated corporate attorney at the Detroit-based law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, LLP. He was not immediately available for comment.

On the Democratic side, Rep. Gary Peters told The Detroit Free Press editorial board that he is “going to seriously consider” running. Peters, who ended 2012 with nearly $500,000 in cash on hand, is considered the Democrats’ top recruit.

It has been a topsy-turvy day in Michigan politics, as candidates have floated their names in and out of contention. Levin announced Thursday that he would not seek a seventh term next year.

Democrats begin the open-seat race with a decided advantage. But serious structural problems plague the Michigan Democratic Party. This race, along with the 2014 gubernatorial campaign, will test newly-elected Chairman Lon Johnson.

The new dynasty. Wasn’t Romney going to be appointed head of the Detroit restoration project by Snyder?

Well, at least Mitt’s not going to Washington as a senator. The ghost of our 2008 candidate is still haunting those halls, and he has a persistent fungus on his butt called Linseed Graham.

That was a senseless hopeful fantasy some had. I might put Romney on the team but I wouldn't put him out front.

This guy Scott Romney will be 72 years old before election day...

Hopefully, the Michigan Republican Party can find someone not quite so long in the tooth.

“Hopefully, the Michigan Republican Party can find someone not quite so long in the tooth.”

I’m sure there is a Vice Romney somewhere in the state that will be willing to step in.

Uh, Scott- - - . Okay to call you Scott?

Good! You see, well - - - . Let me start over.

Your Dad lost because he was a Socialist. He was a true believer in maximum goodness of rotten politicians.

It is a common brain freeze in America: Politicians BAD, Government GOOD.

No one knows how this uban myth got started, and even TV’s “Myth Busters” are baffled.

If you are a chip of the old mitten, Scottie, then do America a favor and get a real job. You know, profit and loss, etc. Normal stuff.

Leave politics to heros such as Allen West of Florida, and Senator Tom Cruz of TEXAS.

We don’t need no more damn Socialists!

I guess Scott thinks that being Mittens’ brother will do his campaign a lot of good. Doubt it.

Here is the best endorsement I can find for Justin:

McCain referred to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) as “wackos.”

“They were elected, nobody believes that there was a corrupt election, anything else,” McCain said. “But I also think that when, you know, it’s always the wacko birds on right and left that get the media megaphone.”

Asked to clarify, McCain said he was referencing ”Rand Paul, Cruz, Amash, whoever.”

Do you believe everything the media tells you?

Trivia question:

When was the last time you ever heard the media refer to John McCain as "the Maverick"?

Answer:.. Not once since November 4, 2008..........

Mike Rogers might run

I only had him as a congressman for two years pre 2002 redistricting since I didn't vote at MSU, but he's a good guy from everyone I talked to that knows him.
