Brennan Takes Oath on Draft Constitution— Without Bill of Rights
Yahoo News ^ | March 08, 2013 | Olivier Knox

Oh, dear. This is probably not the symbolism the White House wanted.

Hours after CIA Director John Brennan took the oath of office—behind closed doors, far away from the press, perhaps befitting his status as America's top spy—the White House took pains to emphasize the symbolism of the ceremony.

“There's one piece of this that I wanted to note for you,” spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters at their daily briefing. “Director Brennan was sworn in with his hand on an original draft of the Constitution that had George Washington's personal handwriting and annotations on it, dating from 1787.”

Earnest said Brennan had asked for a document from the National Archives that would demonstrate the U.S. is a nation of laws.

"Director Brennan told the president that he made the request to the archives because he wanted to reaffirm his commitment to the rule of law as he took the oath of office as director of the CIA,” Earnest said.

The Constitution itself went into effect in 1789. But troublemaking blogger Marcy Wheeler points out that what was missing from the Constitution in 1787 is also quite symbolic: The Bill of Rights, which did not officially go into effect until December 1791 after ratification by states. (Caution: Marcy's post has some strong language.)

That means: No freedom of speech and of the press, no right to bear arms, no Fourth Amendment ban on “unreasonable searches and seizures,” and no right to a jury trial.

How ... symbolic?

"It’s insane.

Nobody takes an oath on the Constitution.

This is weird beyond comprehension.

Isn’t it sickening. The entire world knows the reason he didn’t use a Bible. We also know why obama has two swearing in ceremnonies, one in secret. But probably 75% of the American people simply don’t care. And obviously 100% of the republican politicians don’t care.

John Roberts (A Bush Boy) should be charged with treason for swearing this Kenyan into office. He, of all people, should know obama is not eligible.

” - - - Big deal, Obama swore on a stack of bibles that he would defend the Constitution and immediately attacked the second Amendment! - - - “

Obama also is a Muslim, and so The Bible has no special meaning to either Hussein or Brennan, the Democrats’ very own US Muslim Brotherhood.

The use of an historical document was an Obama Smokescreen to divert attention away from Brennan not using The Bible.

It’s a legitimate issue that he is taking his oath on the constitution instead of the bible. We can also wonder whether he genuinely believes in the limited powers of government bestowed by the constitution. But complaining that the copy of the constitution he used did not have the bill of rights is not a legitimate issue.

Most people are forgetting the reason why the constitution as originally proposed did not include the bill of rights — the founding fathers were concerned that if it did, people (and particularly the government) would think that they only had the enumerated rights — that they had freedom of speech because of the first amendment. Instead, the original idea was that people had freedom of speech because nothing in the constitution granted to congress the power to regulate it.

In modern times, the bill of rights act as essential limits to governmental power. But that is only because in modern times the constitution is seen as a limited grant of power from the government to the people instead of the exact opposite it was conceived as.

Late yesterday I posted (reposted) this article. I did search to make sure it was not previously posted and found nothing.

You might find interesting the difference in the title of the article in one day.

Brennan Takes Oath on Draft Constitution— Without Bill of Rights (your post)

Brennan takes oath on draft Constitution—without Bill of Rights (my post, 1 day later)

Note the only difference is the Caps on Words, I did not know that this was a case sensitive search function. And I had previously noticed the titles of some news articles are being altered slightly from day to the next. I am beginning to wonder if this is to reduce the exposure. This was top dead center on Drudge when I posted it.

This was a photo event. It even mentions in the article that he took the official oath behind closed doors. They are doing this to mock Rand Paul.

If it's an early draft then it's not the Constitution. They didn't pass the draft, they passed the final document, complete with the Bill of Rights. A draft of the law is not the actual law itself.

He basically swore an oath to nothing. Appropriate for one of zero's men.

Republican voting for Brennan:

Alexander (R-TN)
Burr (R-NC)
Coburn (R-OK)
Collins (R-ME)
Flake (R-AZ)
Hatch (R-UT)
Kirk (R-IL)
McCain (R-AZ)
Murkowski (R-AK)
Rubio (R-FL)

Republicans Not Voting:

Vitter (R-LA)

An occassional bad vote is understandable human error. A pattern, and I suggest with most of these Senators there is a pattern, it is criminal.

Not that I am surprised, nor am I excusing such assinine behavior and other excusing this political faux paux...

Swearing to defend the Constitution against all enemies foriegn and domestic...

Tells me that you swear to defend the Constitution “as ratified”, including the BOR...

What may offend me the most is that they put they grimy stinking hands on such a historical document, in that for years people have sworn on family bibles, bibles owned by famous political people, and yes, even Qurans (you know, two-ply toilet paper)...

Even though I am empathetic to the outrage, this is really a non-story...And if it gets yer bowels in an uproar??? Ok, I can dig it...Just be aware, that while you are consentrating on this crap, other things might be slipping under the radar...

And that IS exactly what they want to have happen...

Just my opinion...

I don't watch what they say, I watch what they do and this IS a story because it symbolizes a conscious effort on his part to AVOID using the Bible and secondly an avoidance to swear to uphold ANYTHING, really. Not a VALID Constitution and with no Amendments.

He is a Muslim convert and will not use a Bible. Any 'private swear in' or 'swearing in behind closed doors' is an affront to We The People. DESPICABLE!

But, that was why I duplicate posted it.

I copied and pasted it exactly into the search block on FR.

When I found no listing returned, I went ahead and posted it.

I did not know about it until the thread was locked by Admin.

My brother is just about the most staunch Democrat that you could ever meet, yet, he admits that Obama is a Muslim. He is extremely disappointed in Obama and his reason is that Obama is a Muslim and that everything that Obama is doing is bad for the country. Whenever someone says anything about Obama, he just shrugs and his shoulders and says, “We elected a Muslim, what do you expect?”
