Mayor Michael Bloomberg may be one of the worlds biggest proponents of government action to promote public health, but Hizzoner has his limits. In his weekly radio appearance on John Gamblings radio show, the mayor was asked whether he would consider ordering mandatory gym memberships and he admitted thats taking things too far.
Well, you have to be practical about what legally you can do and what people will do, said Mr. Bloomberg. The nice thing about the soda thing is its really just a suggestion.

He is a very sick puppy.
In a way, the government does force people to exercise. Ever find yourself in a big city at night, and there are no cops?
You’re gonna be moving like you’ve never moved before.
Yeah...To quote GWB on another but similar matter:
...”is a major league assh*le...”.
“....ordering mandatory gym memberships and he admitted thats taking things too far.”
No; no - go with it - make us all do calesthetics in the morning - out in the street - together.
... Then after we exercise they could get us all to turn and face mecca and pray.
Ya, but I can tell then what to eat or drink.
'Smith!' screamed the shrewish voice from the telescreen. '6079 Smith W.! Yes, you! Bend lower, please! You can do better than that. You're not trying. Lower, please! That's better, comrade. Now stand at ease, the whole squad, and watch me.'
A sudden hot sweat had broken out all over Winston's body. His face remained completely inscrutable. Never show dismay! Never show resentment! A single flicker of the eyes could give you away. He stood watching while the instructress raised her arms above her head and -- one could not say gracefully, but with remarkable neatness and efficiency -- bent over and tucked the first joint of her fingers under her toes.
I love Big Bloomberg!
The nice thing about the soda thing is its really just a suggestion.”
The nice thing about the paying taxes thing is it’s really just a suggestion .... see a parallel here?
Oh man... he is truly sick.
Just another socialist control freak.
This stupid bastard has graduated an entire generation of kids from high schools in New York and more than half of them can’t read. Of course 40% never even graduate and they can’t read either. And this left wing putz wants to tell you how much salt you can put on your fries and how much soda you can drink to wash them down. In a better world he would be shunned and cast out.
Just who in the hell thought Bloomingidiot would be good for NY?
OH, a RINO named RUDY!
Despots are the same all over the world.
You know, people who are cleaning up their dogs’ poop from the sidewalk “probably” should not rub it into Bloomberg’s face.
But that’s just a suggestion.
I think we should encourage his crazy side for a teaching moment, esp since I don’t live in NYC..
“Yes, Bloomy, don’t fall short now now, you are on a mission.
Your call is to make history, fat is this decade’s smoking like killer. It cost society billions.
Time to tax, err fine, err tax, those lazy fat a...es till they get off the chair and move. The ends justifies the means”
“Do it for the kids and Gabby”.
He can also ban those things that he doesn’t want you to eat or drink.
Probably shouldn’t can be read as maybe should. He’s one twisted little man.
I think Bloomberg should live in a maximum security prison for a couple years and see what it’s like for the state to make every single major and minor decision for him.
Hell you know forcing people to join a gym is no less fascist and unconstitutional than banning a certain size of cup. If he wants to be consistent he should be 100% in favor of forced exercise.
How about a making a movie where they put a fence around New York and make the residents prisoners...oh yeah, I guess someone already has...
