Colorado Poll: Gun Control Politically Dangerous for Democrats
The Weekly Standard ^ | 9 March, 2013 | DANIEL HALPER

Posted on 03/09/2013 2:25:59 PM PST by marktwain

A new poll measuring public opinion of gun control measures being considered in Colorado finds the issue could be politically dangerous for Democrats. And most don’t think “sweeping gun control measures will make them any safer,” according to the pollster.

“[W]hile opinions on this issue fall predictably along party and ideological lines, there are some political perils that Democratic leaders should be cognizant of,” writes pollster Rob Autry, of Public Opinion Strategies, in a memo detailing the poll’s findings.

“Democratic legislators also have to be mindful that even members of their own partisan coalition are conflicted about this proposed legislation. While only 8% of Democrats oppose all of the gun control measures we tested, 70% of Democratic voters oppose one or some combination of the proposals (either the comprehensive package, the background checks, the liability claim, or the high-capacity magazine ban).”

“These poll numbers prove that Governor Hickenlooper and the Democrats are listening to Bloomberg and Biden instead of Coloradans,” comments state senator Greg Brophy, responding to the poll, in an email to me.

The problem is, when the Democrats pass these laws, even if they lose the next election, it is very hard to remove the offending laws.

True.

They become “martyrs” for the cause. The cause is our enslavement, of course.

There isn't any abuse Democrats can visit upon us that is dangerous for Democrats.

Somewhat...

Recall is being initiated against 2 more CO Dems, John Morse and Evie Hudak.

- - - - - - - - - - -

“Anyone in the Colorado Springs area come to the Broadmoor Hotel tonight at 7pm. We’re having a meeting about beginning the recall process on John Morse and Evie Hudak.

We’ve already filed the official paperwork on Mike McLachlan and signature gathering begins next week.

We can also now take donations towards the recall efforts of these “legislators” that would destroy our freedoms.

True. But a candidate campaigning specifically on such repeals will garner lots of conservative, moderate and even some Dem support. Because they own guns too.

They have been told by Bloomberg that they will not lose the next election, he will see to that.

Then we'll have to pony up some money for local Colorado elections, and I'd tie Doomberg's meddling in state affairs to the Dems.

When is your Governor next up for election? Our family always goes snow skiing at least once a year in Colorado - Vail or Pagosa Springs - and my son and dil go there from mid-June to mid-July but not this year. Wrote a letter to your Gov and a couple of tourist bureaus with no response from either. It’s not only the gun issue, it’s the marijuana and in-state tuition for illegals also. If it were not for the absolutely horrific EPA rules on residential construction, my son would also love to have some land where he could retire one of these days.

Given the current situation in Colorado though, he has set his sites on northern Arizona, except for the Flagstaff area.

It’s early yet but are there any hints about anyone who might run against him and restore some of the sanity to your beautiful state?

re: that recall mtg last night: "We'll be discussing how to organize the effort, determining who wants to take the lead on it, what exactly needs to be done from first step to last, and setting an initial timeline. We will have several Board Members from Colorado Accountability present to answer any questions.

Thank you everyone for your interest and willingness to help us oust from office those that would destroy our freedoms."

Yeah, I'm taking notes :op -- so glad to see people there angry and pulling together on the state & local levels there and in NY rally in Albany recently.

National level?

I've just read THIS: Fear and Trembling on the Scimitar's Edge (American Thinker); may post the article here if I get a chance.

It remains to be seen if the West will prove the Tolkien wisdom that "A man that flies from his fear may find that he has only taken a short cut to meet it."

It was a little long for me, cyn, but it summed up quite nicely. That describes liberals on most every issue.

OK, this website took several tries before it would work for me. I hope it’s not being hosted in somebody’s basement or some crappola free hosting site. If they’re serious about this site, I suggest they use bluehost.com and pay them less than $100.00 a year for both web and email hosting for the domain. I use bluehost.com for my own web site and several client web sites and they’ve always been really good. They’re out of Utah and all support is local to the U.S.
