Venezuela Divided Over Justin Timberlake ‘SNL’ Mock Tribute Of Hugo Chavez
PopDirt ^ | March 10, 2013

Posted on 03/10/2013 2:04:57 PM PDT by GrootheWanderer

Justin Timberlake’s opening skit on ‘Saturday Night Live’ featured the singer and actor doing a “tribute” of Venezuelan authoritarian Hugo Chavez, who died Tuesday (March 5), dressed as Elton John, mimicking Elton’s ‘Candle in the Wind’ tribute of Princess Diana. Timberlake’s take would likely be considered softball by the standards of American conservatives or moderates, but to many in Venezuela, they turned to Twitter to blast the artist for disrespecting their fallen leader and the country’s flag, seen in the background of the skit. The angry messages sent via Twitter (@jtimberlake) include:

@luisragarcia: Be a men @jtimberlake, no time for pranks, Venezuela deserve respect! When one of your loved ones die, people will respect your grief. #Rude

@Impertinencias: @jtimberlake when you die you, well assured that I’m going to make fun of you clown

@GerdysDANZ: @jtimberlake trash, why do not you make fun of the millions of children who die by gunmen sick of your country?

@IngTato: @jtimberlake did you take a chance to know who Chávez is for Venezuelan people? Shame on you @jtimberlake and #SNL ! We deserve RESPECT!

@AngelaRosaDli: @jtimberlake I don’t speak English, I’m Venezuelan. You offend me today. We love Hugo Chavez and you laugh at him. Is disrespectful. You don’t know anything about Venezuelan people. Don’t laugh at Hugo Chávez. Now we hate you. Talk about Chávez with Sean Penn. You can’t make jokes about something you don’t know. I want respect for us (Venezuelan people) and Hugo Chávez

“Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.”

“Ray Kroc, McDead at 81.”

Some of the best SNL humor has been in obits.

Taking heat from idiots who probably got free money from Hugo...and computers. Poor babies may soon do without either.

Trying to watch that sketch on nbc.com is an exercise in futility. I tried to search the full episode looking for it and gave up in disgust after five minutes of commercials and not a single second of program video.

It was actually pretty mild but I guess anything will set off the Chavistas. Meaning, they doth protest too much...I’m sure they all knew he was a nutcase, but they profited from him.

BTW,Chavez’ net worth upon his death was $2 billion. He was the fourth wealthiest individual in Latin America.

"Candle In The Wind" was originally written with Marilyn Monroe in mind but the song was appropriated for use when that British "princess" was killed in some auto accident.

This is why I like Keith Richards:

“Elton John’s writing is limited to songs for dead blondes.”

I wonder how long Brazil and Argentina will continue to make any good products. They seem to be following Chavez’ path to destruction.

For the sake of the manufacturers, their employees and their customers may it be so! :-)

May the socialists who suck money off of all of them rot.

Thank you kindly. NBC stuff usually lasts about 20 minutes on YouTube.
