WASHINGTON — Eight senators who have spent weeks trying to write a bipartisan bill to overhaul immigration laws have privately agreed on the most contentious part of the draft — how to offer legal status to the nation's 11 million illegal immigrants.

RE :”Quite a few Freepers have pounced on sickoflibs because he is not a GOP ***kisser, ....”

HA-HA, you got to expect to get beat up for going either way from time to time round here. I start thinking I am irrelevent if no-one gets mad at me for too long a spell.

Today I am making fun of Paul Ryan's rehashed balanced budget resolution (they keep passing it over and over like Groundhog day) ,
That thing’ is like a vampire that some-how keeps getting revived, or like the Frankenstein monster in those Universal 1930s movies. He just kept coming back for a new movie each time he was killed.

In this one Rand says we (GOP) have some evolving to do on amnesty, then goes on to explain why more amnesty will kill this country
(future tense??? Didnt Hispanics successfully re-elect Obama already? What is next?)

Rand Paul: GOP must 'evolve' on immigration

The tea party grassroots reject amnesty. Many of the politicians and prominent talking heads embraced as spokesmen for the tea party movement support it. Rubio, Palin, and (I think) Cruz and Paul have said that they oppose deportation and support a "path to citizenship."

Who among our Senators or governors is reliable on the issue?

NO DAMNED AMNESTY!! This is not going to pass. Any politician that gets close to voting for the POC is politically through.
I just got off the phone and they we impressed with my utilization of the English language.
STOP THIS CRAP.

No one I can find. Paul is probably the best, so far. Allen West lost his race, in part due to Grover Norquist, who has hijacked the tea party label.

Rush suggested amnesty with no right to vote for 25 years.

The issue would shrivel up and go away like al old demon

Why do I have to obey the law when they don’t?

Oh right - because I’m white....

Yeah, that stipulation would last until the next election, disposed of either by court order or indifferent enforcement.

Interview with Univision:

Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?

I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.

As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

And the last question would be about politics. You only have two more weeks left...

Yes What is your strategy? How are you planning to win the latino vote?

I will tell you, I wish that there were more hours in the day so that we can get out there and to more of the communities with such the strong Latino vote that is out there and really tell them that we desire to work for them. We are asking them to hire us and let us work for them.

Thank you so much. It would be impossible to ask you to say a few words in Spanish, right?

Oh my good-well, I don't want to embarrass myself, but … but gracias and I do thank you so much for this opportunity. I appreciate it.

Thank you, muchas gracias, thank you.

"Once granted probationary legal status, immigrants would be allowed to work but would be barred from receiving federal public benefits, including food stamps, family cash assistance, Medicaid and unemployment insurance."

Illegals will look at that deal and laugh out loud. No way will any of them give up their unearned gov't bennies for quasi-legal status, even if it leads to full citizenship.

I'm sure in most of their minds, they're merely receiving reparations for the territory we "stole" from their ancestors.

Unless there's a real penalty involved for remaining illegal, most of them will keep right on living the way they're living now.

When the border has been closed tight for a year, Then it will be a time to decide who qualifies to stay here and who doesn’t...

Bingo. Enforcement first - then we'll talk about 'pathways to citizenship'.

These traitors are about to pull the same damn thing they did during Reagan's turn. They're going to declare all 30 million+ illegals legal, and pay nothing but lip service to the other side of the deal.

...the world IS pretty much ending thanks to their cunning plans to move the country right by voting for leftist republicans.

Have a lozenge, Norm. I've been using them for a while to help my hoarse throat. I could barely speak above a whisper after the last primary :(

Yeah, I saw him, but I'm too whupped to bust chops right now. If he read your posts upthread and didn't get a clue, then it'll take a lot more energy to get through to him.

“anticipate what conservatives want to hear”....

This is how our country has been stolen from us. They are con artists. They took our country by stealth not by force.

Here is a quote from James Madison, it will give you goosebumps when you see how his words came true.

“There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power then by violent and sudden usurptions.”

the “path” is too forgiving and is an insult, a moral insult to ALL LEGAL immigrants

the path should be no more than a new temporary work permit, along with all the other restrictions on government benefits mentioned in the proposed “path”, and citizenship cannot be handed out except by them getting in the application line, behind everyone else, for the kind of immigration visas from which a true “green card” and eventual citizenship can be applied

it should also lock it in that their children, born and yet to be born, are citizens of the country from which they came here illegally, not the U.S., until that is the illegal migrant has followed all the legal hurdles to becoming a legal immigrant on a proper immigrant’s visa
