Maryland Poised to Pass Assault Weapons Ban; Beretta May Leave (VIDEO)

This week, two Maryland House committees will review Gov. Martin O’Malley’s Firearms Safety Act of 2013, a bill that would ban ‘assault’ weapons and ‘high’ capacity magazines as well as require licensing and fingerprinting for all gun buyers.

Versions of the bill have already passed the full state House and state Senate, but the latest draft of the bill is now sitting before the House Judiciary committee and House Government Operations committee, both will give it a final vote before potentially sending it to the governor’s desk for his signature.

Rep. Jill P. Carter, one of the lawmakers who will decide the fate of the O’Malley’s Firearms Safety Act, has said that while she supports the bill, she is also open to amending it.

“My constituents have overwhelmingly requested support for the governor’s bill,” she told the Baltimore Sun. “If it’s something they overwhelmingly want, it’s my obligation to do so.” Adding, however, “If there are other reasonable changes suggested from our work group, I’m amenable to them.”

If Berretta leaves, they’ll be taking with them about 400 jobs. A hard pill to swallow given these tough economic times

If the east coast needed an enema, it would really be a toss-up as to where there insertion point would be. Maryland is really giving NY & Massachusetts a run for their money.

I continue to anticipate seeing a rational statutory definition of “assault weapon” floating up out of this morass. Perhaps I Expect too much.

The definition of an ASSAULT weapon is very simple and only 7(seven) words long....
“The looks of it really scares me”
Too many “definitions” are as long as a short story, listing every thing that “looks” scary.
I think a mere 7 words covers it.

They assume "shall not be infringed" has something to do with the costumes at a gay pride parade.

Nope the gun grabbers rely upon a loosely defined understanding of the term “assualt weapon.” It allows the listener, mostly LIV to supply their own uninformed idea of what that is. Kinda like Hope and Change.....left up to the listener to define what that exactly meant without holding Obama to a measureable standard.......

The Dems (gun-grabbers all) want an ill-defined concept that they can readily demonize.....

At least they are now coming out of the closet with their long held agenda of overturnibg the 2nd Amendment and banning all guns. Heck with Obamacare/FEMA they have all the camps/ovens ready for business/customers......

Naah. They should go GTT (Gone to Texas).

We need another firarms company and the jobs. Besides, the cost of operation would be much lower. And less regulation to live with.

One of my aunts lived in College Park, Maryland with her private sector employed husband (an electronics guy who assisted in developing the first ILS system for airports).

When I was in the USAF stationed in the DC area, my wife and I spent a few week-ends with them and noted that, each morning before breakfast, her husband peeked out the window. When I asked him why, he told me that nearly all of his neighbors “worked” for the federal government and if any of their cars remained in their driveways, he was pleased that they wouldn’t be downtown wasting paper clips and making life miserable for other citizens.

I was going to write Uckfay Arylandmay but it appears they’re doing it to themselves. Dontcha just love it??

That is, indeed, a bitter pill for citizens to swallow; for leftist extremists, however, it's of no concern whatever. Their goal is to deliver a hard slap across the face to the Second Amendment and all those commoners who dare assert it means exactly what it says. It's all about expressing white hot blind hatred: nothing more, nothing less.

INterestingly, the reason why nothing has been done in Connecticut, a liberal’s liberal state with a liberal’s liberal governor and a liberal’s liberal state legislature where, of course, Newtown is located is...

Because it is the cradle and historic center of the American gun universe. So many companies started in CT, Sam Colt is a celebrated icon in the capitol city (Coltsville is becoming a National Historic Park soon). There are a ton of gun makers in Connecticut and their CEOs and other organizations have been getting as much airplay as the gun grabbers.

If they leave MD, they will most likely stay somewhere in the mid-atlantic area. They have a warehouse in VA, my SWAG would be there or WV. This is sad, this will shut down msny small Mom and Pop businesses. MD is a cesspool of socialist enlightenment.

Thanks for the perspective.

There was nothing socialist about the enlightenment. Out of some of that came James Witherspoon (a signer of the Declarattion of Independence) who tutored James Madison. And many others.

The current pack of leftist vermin desire to destroy all that was good and great about the U.S. They cannot stand to see how freedom works and Socialism fails. They must re-write history to paper over this. They are doing it daily on the web.

BUT. With the truth, the pieces fit. With a Lie they never can. So they fail, rename their movement and fail again.

Totalitarianism in all it’s forms is evil.

God Bless the U.S., God Bless Texas, God Bless your family and mine.
