Study: Less Than 10% of Indian MBA Graduates Are ‘Employable’
Wall Street Journal India ^ | December 12, 2012 | Preetika Rana

India’s estimated 3,300 business schools churn out tens of thousands of management graduates each year. But only a small fraction of them are “employable,” or possess basic skills necessary to work in sectors ranging from marketing to finance, according to an unpublished study. B-School graduates are finding out the hard way. Hitesh Kumar, who completed his MBA from a business school in Allahabad, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, earlier this year, has been unable to find a job as an investment banker. ............... Aspiring Minds based its conclusions on a so-called “employability test” it conducted on 32,000 MBA graduates from 220 business schools across India. The test, which quizzed graduates on topics ranging from grammar to quantitative analysis, found that only 10% of those tested had skills that recruiters typically look for while hiring management graduates. The study found that less than half of the students tested had some knowledge of key industry terms and concepts in their areas of specialty. For instance, a third of the surveyed students who had majored in finance, did not know what IPO – short for initial public offering – stood for.

There’s nothing like a bunch of foreigners that can’t speak American (not English) who have no idea what it is to be American and think their valuable MS, MBA, PhD’s make them more qualified than people who have real experience in America instead of something that came out of a book.

The only thing worse is Americans who are too lazy to learn the requisite skills and who depend upon [foreign] others to do simple things like, oh, write SQL statements that don't take several hours to run.

>>Indians get favorable treatment for SBA loans.

The SBA also considers them to be “Caucasian”.

I used to have an associate who thought it was pretty funny that he was black as coal, and Indian... and per the SBA — Caucasian.

W was right. The SBA, and the parasites in the jackwagon with them, should’ve been shyte-canned.

Indians are better than Chinese. Chinese are worse with English and cheating is not considered a vice in the academic pursuit.

My son took the SAT last weekend and two Chinese students in front of him were cheating.

Blood is thicker than water. Chinese vote for what’s best for the race. Which means they vote for what’s best for China, not the US.

The whole “diversity” industry is sick. Candidates should be hired on the basis of merit, period.

Many of the top medical schools with limited class vacancies (I'll use the University of Michigan Med School as an example) are accepting these older individuals with their advanced degrees into their schools ahead of qualified American students.

Following his graduation from Williams College in Massachusettes (12th in his class), my nephew applied to U of M med school but they had to turn him down for that fall due to these foreigners with their degrees taking up most of the vacancies. They did however promise him that they would accept him the following year.

So he took the year off and went to Europe to play semi-pro hockey...........then came home and went on to U of M where he graduated.

Some of those acronyms you used are actually non-GAAP metrics and are not likely to be used in other countries. I know for fact those, are not in used in Indian financing companies. They have their own set of accounting metrics and acronyms.

cheating is not considered a vice in the academic pursuit.

I recall a few years ago reading an article about campus riots in India after some universities decided to not allow cheating. Why anyone would hire someone with a degree from an Indian University is a mystery. I'm sure there are very talented people getting a good education, but how could you be sure?

I am not sure any company hires Indians by just looking at their Indian degrees. Which is why you have “interviews”. You can only get so far with a fake degree, however that will not help you get past a technical interview.

Minority status got so many of their motels and restaurants funded....got them off the ground

I've seen scores of finance packages on Indian owned hotels and I've never seen - or heard of - an SBA loan on any of them. I have seen SBA loans on Indian owned franchise fast food places but those I could count on one hand and they were to Indians born here and not immigrants.

Indian finance is intricate. A young man is expected to work in the business until he has mastered all facets from the front desk to cleaning toilets. He is expected to save every spare penny. When he is ready, his family will all chip in for a down payment on a small motel. Those little loans are inviolable. They are personal, unsecured loans but God help anyone who defaults. They live frugally and save their money until they can move up to a bigger, better property. From there it is luck, ambition and ability.

The whole system is as American as apple pie.

Well if they are in America then don’t you think they ought to figure it out.

Frankly from what I see of how Indians run businesses here as a rule I am not impressed...in fact...they do a poor job...and I know for a fact as you say...that their default rate at banks on new businesses is high...they take the money and leave...if it gets rocky...interstate exchange motels are very very risky lending in Middle TN precisely due to them...

I do note exceptions though..some hotels I’ve seen not bad, convenience stores and Subways

but more often than not..not good...and they can be quite rude...maybe they got that from condescending Brits

there are not the only ones I can generalize about like that

“Well if they are in America then don’t you think they ought to figure it out.”

I am sure they do figure it out if they need it in their day to day business. Financial accounting isn't really rocket science. I don't think an average motel or convenience store owner needs to know those terms to do their regular business.

The “Indians” who run motels or convenience stores don't really have business degrees from Ivy league school. They are mostly immigrants from the state or Gujarat or Punjab and I would be very surprised if they even have a college degree.

“and I know for a fact as you say...that their default rate at banks on new businesses is high......and they can be quite rude...maybe they got that from condescending Brits”

Quite honestly I don't know what your source for such a claim is. As for the rest of what you say, I think its mostly hearsay and bravo sierra.

I am in business in Nashville and my family is minority shareholder in two local bank startups and I have on occasion particpated in board review as the number 4 shareholder in one of banks.

That is how I know that there is problem lending to Indians in Nashville.

Particularly for interstate exit motels in Wilson, Putnam, Rutherford and Montgomery counties.

Are you Indian or just don’t cotton to generalizations about minorities even if true.

If it’s the latter then maybe Eaker was right, you are on the wrong forum.

I bet you don’t work so hard to deflect unsavory generalizations even if true about hillbillies and rednecks now do you?

I refuse to submit and not acknowledge problem issues with minorities when I see it.

here’s another one...Indians voted mostly for Obama..almost 70%

so why do conservatives like Mark Levin even clamour so hard for more to come and strengthen the Democrat gene pool

I’ll tell you why...like you their ideology is often rooted in minority redress and victimhood...Indians even though most I know do pretty well..see themselves as minorities with darker skin and victims of a GOP opposed to minorities and unrestrained immigration...especially illegal immigration...even though the GOP is largely pro amnesty at the top

and so they vote based on a media driven perception of what they are owed even though they just got here relatively speaking

the third world is going to overtake the US ...primarily from Mexico..and it will be our ruin...they will recreate here what they left to get away from and the dems and GOP sissies will help them...they already are

and the irony is that Mexican campesinos like blacks will view Indians with the same glint towards Indians as they do native Whites...resentment towards a power structure that has oppressed them and owes then...a peoples that in their eyes are “haves”

so were I Indian I might try to figure out why I am on the wrong side

So you are a shareholder at a local bank and that's your claim to your knowledge about Indians defaulting on loans. No offense but I honestly take that with a large grains of salt. To me that doesn't really count as a source. And yes I am very much of Indian ethnicity and I also have problems with generalizations in general, be they made on minority or the majority. So you might want to ping Eaker to let him know he was right.

Firstly I can guarantee that you can't tell if they are Indians.... or Pakistanis, Bangladeshis,Sri Lankans or Guyanese Indians,Fiji Indians or something else altogether. Like most Americans I would assume you go by the general rule if they look like Indians, quack like Indians they must all be Indians.

Defaulting on loans is not really a trait unique to Indians. How many housing, business or property repossession or foreclosures happened in the US in the last few years? Plenty. And I hardly know any Indian whose property or business got repossessed on account of default. And you can probably count the total number of Indians living in the south in one hand. There are far more Indians living on the east coast and West coast. Indians are disproportionately represented in the motel and gas station industry (just like IT industry or medical industry) and of course there will be plenty of bad apples. But i hardly believe they all worked their way up there by defaulting on loan (or cheating in exams). There is a lot of BS some white people like to peddle about Indians on the Internet.

As for Indians voting for Democrats, that's a whole new can of worms you opened right there. Well this time around you can actually thank Evangelicals who stayed home, didn't show up at the voting booth and passively voted for Obama. They couldn't get themselves to vote for a Mormon Romney. Kinda hard to stick the blame on the Indians who are hardly 1% of America when a Majority of Whites and Christians voted for Obama.

And here is a little more tidbit you missed out with your generalizations. Indians are the newest minority to US and live mostly in the big cities on the east and west coast. Being a new minority they haven't really integrated deeper into middle America or red America unlike other minorities. Right now they vote like anyone else living in the blue states.

Majority Indians (who are here as immigrants fresh off boat) are either on H-1 work visa, student visa, dependent visa, business visa or green card.....none of them are eligible to vote until they become “a citizen”. Its mostly the Indians born and raised in the US the Ivy league educated “Obama voting Indians”. You need to make a distinction between immigrant Indians and “born and raised” Indian Americans. The latter may look like Indians but they quack like liberal Americans. And Indians in general take a bad name for these “born and raised” Indian Americans. Otherwise if you know anything about India...... Bush was WAY more popular then Obama is or will ever be.

And lastly I put the blame squarely on conservatives and their leadership. Quite honestly they are not Indian friendly. Conservatives couldn't get themselves to vote a White American mormon, what chances do you think a brown skinned Hindu might have of being loved by conservatives. You may deny it as much as you like but that is the reality. And the opinions expressed on Indian threads are very much proof of that.

“blacks will view Indians with the same glint towards Indians as they do native Whites”

Well Indians never had much historical or cultural contact with Mexicans. However ironically Indians were brought to the West Indies and the African continent as “slaves” or bonded laborers to build rail roads and work on plantations. And then Indian fought for African independence. Gandhi began his struggle not in India but in South Africa. And then Idi Amin cleansed out a large population of Indians from Uganda. So I dont really know how Indians could be view on par with White in power structure.

“like you their ideology is often rooted in minority redress and victimhood...Indians even though most I know do pretty well..see themselves as minorities with darker skin and victims of a GOP opposed to minorities and unrestrained immigration...especially illegal immigration”

My ideology is not “rooted in minority redress and victimhood”. Speak for yourself. Indians coming here right off the boat dont have much idea about Democracts or GOP or what any of them stand for. Indians rooted in victimhood is purely a construct of your own imagination. Victimhood against what exactly?

Thanks. We fired every liberal we had right after the election but kept one..in case, the other clowns fire us for being discriminatory against these brain-dead imbeciles, for which we really are.

So when someone boasts to me they are grads from Harvard Business School, I start laughing after what we went through from the hiring process. In the end, we hired a GOP girl straight from Craigslist as she got our budgetary production issues within a reasonable amount.

If you want some tips to find out with subtle questions to weed out the Obama ass-kissers, let me know..

“My homeschooled daughter just finished up an introductory course in accounting, and she could have answered that question. AAMOF, we were just talking about profit margin ratios the other night. “

Your daughter I can make an excuse for. In addition, when hiring check out the applicant’s Facebook page. Most of these Ivy League clowns are leftwing imbeciles. It will be enjoyable for us to fire them in the end, but we don’t like training them for an important position in the first place.
