Skip to comments.House conservatives: GOP leadership killed measure to defund Obamacare

As Republican senators Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, and James Inhofe prepare to introduce a measure to defund Obamacare and threaten to hold up a continuing resolution to fund the U.S. government if the measure is not given a vote some conservatives are unhappy that the House, controlled by Republicans, did not do the same thing.
It wasnt for lack of effort, at least on the part of some conservative Republicans. As the House prepared to consider its own version of the continuing resolution last week it ultimately passed 267 to 151 more than two dozen conservative GOP lawmakers signed on to an amendment that would have defunded Obamacare. They submitted the amendment and hoped it would receive a vote but were stymied when the House leadership declared that no amendments would be allowed.
If that amendment had gone to the floor, far and above a majority of the conference would have voted for it, said Arizona Rep. Matt Salmon, one of the supporters, in an interview Saturday. I think everyone in the conference would have voted for it, added Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis, another supporter.
Nevertheless, the Republican leadership did not allow the amendment to be considered. And that, Salmon, DeSantis, and other conservative Republicans believe, is a measure of the leaderships uneasiness with continuing the legislative fight against Obamacare. Some Republicans lawmakers who might have felt pressure to vote to defund Obamacare believe privately that the fight is essentially over, and that the GOP should come to terms with the reality of national health care.

P**sies!!!!! Fire them all then.
....before long, they will start to blame YOU, the American citizen for not stopping them
Republicanleadership? Boehner...and who else?

All I can say is: I have no plans to support the GOP in any future election. This country needs a new opposition party and the Democrats will not be stopped until we have such a new opposition party. I will do my part by trying to kill the GOP as soon as possible.
Nobody needs to try to “kill” the GOP, they have done that all by themselves.
Soon, very soon we are hoping to see a new leader or two step up and “dethrown” those clowns once known ad “conservatives”. Perhaps when that happens (and there are signs it is happening), we can all make our shift to a party we MIGHT trust and actually represent “We, Te People”.
Cowards! Despicable, belly crawling, dung heap cowards!
Democrats are generally incapable of following that logic ~ every morning is a whole new adventure ~
This country needs a new opposition party
There’s the essence of our problem. We have no opposition party. Both parties are for big government, crony capitalism, and globalism. The only difference is who get’s the loot.
McCarthy, Cantor, and their committee chairmen toadies.
We are being led into the cattle cars by the people we elected. Or DID we?
Some Republicans lawmakers who might have felt pressure to vote to defund Obamacare believe privately that the fight is essentially over, and that the GOP should come to terms with the reality of national health care.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
These are NOT Republicans. They are RINO progressives whose big government, anti constitutional vaues make them traitors to the People.
They are essentially traitors. The fight will never be over until Obamacare is repealed completely.
“Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power.”
Follow the money. The GOPe killed the bill in the House because of lobbying. Find out who benefits and find out with whom they met.. It’s time to purge and sanitize the den of iniquity.
Membership in the Republican Party does not make you a Constitutional Conservative.
They are all smiling. What are they smiling about?
Down with the Whigs! TEA Party today; Freedom forever.
It was a loosing issue.
To many people want someone else to take care of them, and actually support socialized medicine. The irony is that next year, when the full costs hit, you will see a lot of screaming about how much “free” health care costs.
“This country needs a new opposition party “
And it really does need to come from the bottom up. I was heartened last weekend to at least see that at the gop county convention, a good number of true conservative, tea party people won county positions.
True enough, but it *is* up to us to bury the GOP. If we don't, the carcass will hand around for years, stinking everything up.
Proving, once again, that the only difference between the people at the top is the slope of the hill they are shoving us down.
You know if Cruz keeps this up we are going to have our first Hispanic President and I will probably vote for him.
I really really just want to give up. What’s the point?
This is why Ryan came out with another symbolic budget resolution that balances the budget in ~ 10 years and cuts out all O-care spending while using (keeping) the past tax Obama increases and medicare cuts for the same purpose.
This way the House sends Obama and Reid the CR they demand, and House conservatives get another symbolic vote that never sees law. Ryan was trying to explain it on FNS to Chris Wallace.(he called it 'tough choices')
Do you folks enjoy listening to Ryan talk on TV? It always sounds like bla-bla-bla to me. I dont dislike him but he always sounds like a (read) talking point machine, kind of like Hannity.
I sometimes think we would have an easier time of changing the demoRat party from within than the RePub.
I feel the same way. After the fiasco of last November, I decided that the GOP has gotten my last vote. We need a true opposition party.
We'll come to terms with national health care when it's dead, and everyone responsible for it on both sides of the aisle is in jail or dead.
Many voters will vote against Republicans and conservatives if Obamacare remains on the books at election time. Just be advised....
To paraphrase Reagan, republicans aren’t the solution, they are the problem.
York does not name the 20 good guys who supported the proposed amendment to defund Obamacare, and I can’t find any other source which identifies them. This means that every GOP representative will claim to his constituents that he was among the twenty. Incomplete reporting allows RINOs to have their cake and eat it, too - while real Conservatives who did the right thing are assumed guilty by association. That’s too bad...
I think he was born in Canada.
Thatswhat he’s said in Interviews but I think his mother was an American citizen at the time.
“Republicanleadership? Boehner...and who else?”
Its usually the triumverate of Tammy Faye, Cantor and McCarthy.
Boehner/McCain 2016 - Give the tried and true republican leadership a chance to actually lead the party back to prominence.
(I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit)
This, in a nutshell, is what happened to the U.S.A. In both the 2008 election and the 2012 election went big for obama. Why? Mainly because of the "freebies" he promised. Such as forgiving student loans, free cell phones, free money, and any other "freebies". Add the self hating Whites to the number of idiots that the indoctrination institutions turn out each year, I see no relief in sight.
