The now 20-year-old told state lawmakers her story on Thursday, Feb. 28, urging them to support a bill that would strengthen Minnesota's anti-bullying law. The law, at just 37 words, is one of the shortest anti-bullying laws in the nation and only requires school districts to enact their own local bullying prevention policies.
The bill's backers include educators, pediatricians, gay rights activists and advocates for the disabled.
"I think it would send a message to students and help them feel like they're important and cared about," Schuette said. "And it gives teachers and parents the tools and resources to effectively handle the situations."

I had more than a couple of bullies mess with me in grade school. I was small at the time but in high school that would change.
I took them all on after school. I didn’t win every fight but ever fight was the last one I had with each of them.
There was one bully on our street that stole my bike once and came by with it laughing at me. I broke his nose.
I never met a bully that would go more than one round once they knew you would fight back and keep fighting back. They are all cowards because that is part of what being a bully is.
Experience tells us that there is just one sure-fire way to stop a bully.
Punch the maggot in the mouth.

Interesting exercise to try to eliminate bullying through legislation. Not all evolutionary human behavior is nice or socially acceptable to modern sensibilities. “Bullying” is simply a manifestation by which the weak or the aberrant were cast out of clans, tribes or groups to enhance the body. Unfortunately “tolerance” is not hard wired into human behavior.

Young lady you have no chance at a successful life if you believe the statement you made......
All children should be protected period.
If you do not learn how to deal with having your feelings hurt as a child you will never survive adulthood.

I was bullied a couple of times in school, up to middle school, but only ONE TIME by each person..............
My fathers lesson was the only way to stop being bullied was to stand up for yourself. That did not mean running to a teacher........ It worked and has served me well through life.
Will this apply to bullying by Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Janet Napolitano, Mayor Bloomberg, NY Gov. Cuomo, Teachers Unions, teachers who bully little boys for making the letter “L” out of a Pop-Tart, and all the democrats who want to dictate our every move?
Yes, some extreme examples exist, but in general, every kid get razzed for being too tall/short, fat/skinny, pretty/ugly, rich/poor, smart/dumb, for walking funny, talking funny, looking different in ANY way, having weird/crappy parents, wearing the wrong shoes, wearing the wrong colors, being overly attached to (ANYTHING), overreacting to (ANYTHING), etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. Kids SEEK OUT something to address you about, and see what kind of reaction it gets. We do this as INFANTS with our parents. We engage the world around us and see how it reacts. If it reacts in a way that interests us, we do it again... and again and again and again and again, until it no longer interests us.
The rite of passage, the test, the puzzle is to figure out how to make it stop if we do not like it... how to make it less interesting or beneficial to the aggressor. The number of solutions are as varied as the number of bullies and the umbers of things to be harassed about. One can ignore it in a way that shows it doesn't bother you at all (folding arms and meekly pouting is NOT the proper ignoring technique). One can side with the bully, and adopt the insults as badges of honor (thus taking away his fun.. yeah, I'm the fattest kid in school watch how my tummy jiggles! Woo-hoo! Get others to laugh, and gain popularity and status form it. Bully schooled, and moves on to the next target). One can go to the physical reactions. too, when needed. (I had a taller kid spit in my hair in line at lunch. I did nothing, as the new, shy, scared kid in a Texas school. It got worse, fast. By the end of the week, it took beating him with a chair and a week's suspension to gain the necessary status to ward away other potential future bullies. HUGE mistake to not react the very first time.)
The point is that this is human (AND animal!) nature, and legislating it away will never work, and will continue to work counter to our instincts. It can only have bad unintended consequences.

I had one kid who would punch me every time he saw me when we passed in the hallway.
One day when my group of kids was walking home from school he walked alongside me and taunted me and wouldn’t stop. I was a school patrol, which he evidently didn’t factor into his planning.
After I two-handed him with my metal flagpole across his rib cage, he quit bothering me. I also did it in front of my house so his feeble attempt at retaliation could be seen by my parents.
In short, the bullying stopped.
Does this mean conservatives will no longer be bullied for not being pc?
By what authority does government or anyone else create 'protected groups'?

Very true. Adolescence is a very difficult time for everyone. Differences in physical appearance, intelligence, abilities and personalities in individuals become very apparent. Yet it becomes incumbent for that individual to function within a social setting to achieve happiness or even survive. The trials an adolescent must go through to achieve understanding, status and a modicum of inner peace are well documented throughout human history. The process is not only important but probably hard wired into human behavior. Dealing at a personal level with “bullies”, bad luck, success, poor outcomes, bad weather, etc is all part of life and you simply can’t or shouldn’t try to legislate against the necessary crucible all must endure.
Does this mean that Obama, Schumer, Feinstein, McCain and the other political bullies will have to be on their guard? What will the penalties be for political bullying?
