Eric Harroun is an Arizona native who rioted with rebels in Cairo and fought in Syria for Al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat Al Nusra.
Harroun's descent into Islamic fanaticism seems to have begun sometime after his discharge from the military. With seemingly no way to pursue his lifelong dream of being a soldier, he fell in with two Iraqi brothers, Maadh and Hayder Ibrahim, who he met while attending Pima Community College in Tucson, and began to identify himself as a Muslim, according to people who know him.

Jared Lee Loughner
with his freshly shavenhead...
"Acquaintances said that Loughner's personality had changed markedly in the years prior to the shooting, a period when he was also abusing alcohol and drugs. He had been suspended from Pima Community College in September 2010"
"Loughner had often said that women should not hold positions of power"
"...the notion that the government was creating 'infinite currency' without the backing of gold and silver,"
"Loughner espoused conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks"
Loughner was anti-Semitic, Giffords is Jewish
Loughner declined to state his religion in his Army application.
Much more to this. Much that has been ignored or swept under the rug.

Original story. Note the timeline,
History of depression. Military. Work for a a Phoenix-based mortgage company. Went to Pima Community College. Became a muslim. Became active on anti-Israeli message boards, posting virulent rants against Zionism as well as his own uploaded images and videos. Disappeared to Egypt. Went to Syria. Now in Istanbul. An al qaeda hero.
Easy enough to fix. I believe the VA can call you in for a look to see if you are still disabled.
Did you read *anything*?
I would have thought it might depend on the disability. I’ve got mild epilepsy, which to all intents and purposes, would exclude me from military service or get me kicked out of most militaries in most countries, but wouldn’t stop me from actually being able to fight if I joined a group that didn’t care about such formalities. Not that I would ever join a terrorist paramilitary group of course...
I thought so. Did I miss something? I thought the point of the story is that this guy was an American Soldier who was injured in a car wreck and is now receiving disability pay because he is too disabled to be an American Soldier. I think the author was trying to show the irony of this fellow being too disabled to serve in our military, but still physically able to fight for others. It proves this guy doesn’t need disability pay from the American taxpayer. What did you read?
Why on earth would they want to do that?
They are done with their toy. Now that its broke, it was given its $$ to ease the societal conscience and it has been discarded.
Just a reminder..../.there are no good child molesters, muzzies or registered Democrats!
I hear you. Talk to someone. If nobody else has ever thanked you for your service, well, I thank you. For many people, the American military is just a job. For others, it is a sacred calling. The “job” people really don’t understand the people who see it as a sacred calling. If this guy is one of those people who sees the American military as a sacred calling, then he has other options than the road he has taken.
I guess you can say you missed something about the US military, as well as other aspects of US life - like education - already taken over by islam to the point of you being guests, unwelcome at that, in your own country.
Read it again.
I did. I also read the Fox News story. You are being obtuse.
Won’t the sequester have an impact on that?

Former U.S. Soldier Charged With Conspiring To Use Destructive Device While Fighting With Al Qa’ida Affiliated Group In Syria
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 28, 2013
ALEXANDRIA, Va. Eric Harroun, 30, of Phoenix, Ariz., was arrested and charged with conspiring to use a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) while fighting with the al-Nusrah Front, which is an alias of al Qaida in Iraq. Al Qaida in Iraq has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization since October 2004.
Neil H. MacBride, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Valerie Parlave, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBIs Washington Field Office, made the announcement.
Harroun, a U.S. citizen who served with the U. S. Army from 2000 to 2003, was charged by criminal complaint with conspiring to use a destructive device outside of the United States, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, if convicted. Harroun made his initial appearance today in federal court in Alexandria, Va., before U.S. Magistrate Judge Theresa C. Buchanan.
The al-Nusrah Front is one of several aliases used by the al Qaida in Iraq terrorist organization, and since November 2011 the group has claimed responsibility for nearly 600 terrorist attacks in Syria.
According to an affidavit filed in support of the criminal complaint, Harroun allegedly crossed into Syria in January 2013 and fought with members of the al-Nusrah Front against the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria. The affidavit alleges that Harroun was trained to use an RPG by members of the terrorist organization and that he fired an RPG and posted online multiple photographs of himself carrying or posing with RPGs and other military weapons. Harroun allegedly participated in attacks led by the al-Nusrah Front and was part of an RPG team, for which he carried anti-personnel and anti-armor rockets.
This case is being investigated by the FBIs Washington Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew Peterson, Carter Burwell and Lynn Haaland are prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States, with assistance from the Justice Departments National Security Division.
Criminal complaints are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
