State Senate Democratic President John Morse, of Colorado Springs, is facing a recall effort for his support of controversial gun control laws.
On Friday the Basic Freedom Defense Fund (BFDF) formed a local committee for recalling Morse, the group claims around sixty-volunteers representing state organizations and local businesses have pledged support for the campaign. The effort was inspired by several laws proposed by democrats that would put tighter restrictions on guns including expanded background checks and limits on ammunition magazines.
"That's why politicians around the country don't want to stand up for this issue, but this is a political hill in my view that's worth dying for so that we can make sure others don't die literally at the point of a gun," Morse said on Sunday. "I wasn't expecting things to get this divisive, I really thought that after Sandy Hook even the NRA recognized we've got to do something, we can't leave it exactly where it is with the status quo and claim that's leadership."
Morse was specifically targeted because of a measure he proposed that would hold owners of "assault weapons" liable for damages caused by their guns. That bill has since been withdrawn, but that hasn't stopped the BFDF from trying to remove Morse.
"It really made a lot of people upset, it's an afront to the Second Amendment, it's an afront to the Constitution and it's an afront to the oath that he took," explained BFDF Spokesperson Anthony Garcia.
Garcia said the recall effort is not a political stunt, the group has already filed a petition calling for the recall of State Representative Michael McLachlan (D - Durango) over the gun issue.
"If Senator Morse feels that way he might want to give Mike McLachlan a call," said Garcia.
The Basic Freedom Defense Fund hopes to file the recall petition with the Secretary of State within the next week.
Morse - Thats why politicians around the country dont want to stand up for this issue, but this is a political hill in my view thats worth dying for so that we can make sure others dont die literally at the point of a gun, Morse said on Sunday. This man is too stupid and lacking in critical thinking skills to be a state Senator.
Get rid of him.
Morse should be tossed just for the way he handled the bills. Not allowing the public to comment or testify against the bills looked a lot like “ramming through.” The letters from the Sheriff of El Paso County posted yesterday were enlightening.
... that we could ram through anything we wanted to on the emotional wave, regardless of the fact that none of it would have stopped Lanza had it been in effect.

Let all Patriot American Brothers and Sisters come together and support these “recall” efforts by donating to Basic Freedom Defense Fund (BFDF).
This is exactly what I have been calling for all across this Nation. When we fight back, the liberal socialist cannot stand!
It has started America, lets push back as hard as we can!
I hope any CO Freepers with time will help circulate that petition. We need to hold petty tyrants accountable immediately and not just wait for election day.
I am not in CO and not affiliated with the BFDF, but according to their web site http://www.coloradoaccountability.com/cms/node "The Northern Colorado meeting will take place on 3/16 at 6pm. It will be located in the conference room at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in South Fort Collins (1521 Oakridge Dr). We will be discussing the current recall efforts, ways to donate, future fundraising efforts as well as ways to get the word out. A few Board Members will be there to help answer questions."
I have not checked them out and am not recommending donations without due diligence, but I do recommend attending and direct support of the petition effort. I would love to see every gun shop in his district with a petition for customers, along with other efforts to get legitimate signatures - a serious effort to reach the threshold quickly and make him waste his campaign funds now, or, with luck, to get rid of the traitor before his term is up.
Kinda gives my heart a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Thank you! Will do everything I can to help and support this and any effort to remove these liberal socialist from public office!!!!
There is also a lesson here for other states. Any Freepers in NY with a socialist representing even a marginally conservative area might be able to get something started there, and the same for other "purple to red" areas within "light blue" states.
Hey, commie! Can you say 'asta la vista?' I thought you could.
Recall and lawfully disarm the idiot.
I really thought that after Sandy Hook even the NRA recognized weve got to do something, we cant leave it exactly where it is with the status quo and claim thats leadership.
Hmmm! That's so hard to figure out! Maybe take action against the root cause of crime?
What's the root cause of crime?
Criminals! How hard was that to figure out?
Apparently, he was elected by the libertarians.
I am standing watch over what Michigan is doing, so far, no liberal socialist have introduced “gun control” bills that have any chance of support or moving out of any committee.
Again, I will do anything I can to support these “recall” efforts, it is time to send a powerful message to these liberal socialist who care not for the protections found in he 2nd amendment.
We must do something.
This is something.
Therefore we must do it.
