SWAT teams have moved in on a jewelry store in upstate New York where a man accused of killing four people and wounding two others is in hiding.
The Herkimer Police Department confirmed that the suspect fired shots at police officers.
A black armored vehicle and a track-driven robot with a camera on top rolled up in front of Glory Days Food and Spirits in the village of Herkimer on Wednesday afternoon as officers surrounded blocks of shops topped with apartments

"surrounded blocks of shops topped with apartments" When surrounding just one block is enough, SWAT goes the extra mile!

No motive reported. Sounds like a quiet little town. Weird.

Good thing they banned guns.

I have a friend who lives there ... the kids have been on lockdown at school and she’s understandably anxious. I think Remington has a factory (?) there or near there, and they’re hoping that the medi-uh doesn’t attack that too.

I heard this guy used a shot gun but most of the media will probably leave that little nugget out....

Boy that new gun control is really working well up there.

I believe I worked with Michael Renshaw, the NY State Correction Officer who was killed. I retired in 2003, and haven’t seen him since that time.

"Sounds like a quiet little town."
It is a quiet little town on Route 5. There's a Thruway exit for it. Town named after the Herkimer family. General Nicholas Herkimer was wounded at the Battle of Oriskany (American Revolution), and died of his wounds at his home in Little Falls, NY. The home is a state historic site. Little Falls, Herkimer, and Ilion, where Remington Arms is located, are all within a short distance of each other.

No problem. Only one guy. All the SWAT team needs is one 10 round magazine. That is what the Libs tell me.

Well, quiet little towns in NY have been known to produce some interesting types.
John Brown, of Harper's Ferry notoriety, had a farm in the Adirondacks (near Lake Placid) when he was hung for "treason" by the state (Commonwealth?) of VA.
A presidential assassin (Garfield or McKinley) was once part of the sex cult/commune in Oneida, NY.
To: Starstruck
You are WRONG! Here in NY they would only need a SEVEN round mag. Ask King Cuomo.
Ah, this is a shame, Herkimer is a nice little town that I visit about twice a year. I like going to the Herkimer Diamond Mine (looks like a tortured moonscape) and scraping around in the dirt. In fact, I have a big bag of Herkimer dirt out in my garage that I have yet to “mine”.
There really is nothing of note around there, just a simple little upstate type town. Remington is a stones throw away, and we visited there the last time we were in town.
My prayers go out to the people up there, and the friends and family of those who were killed.
I swear this is making me begin to believe the conspiracy theories about the sudden uptick in so many mass shootings.

John Brown, of Harper's Ferry notoriety, had a farm in the Adirondacks (near Lake Placid) when he was hung for "treason" by the state (Commonwealth?) of VA. HANGED! One is HANGED! When a person is executed by having a rope tied around his or her neck and then dropping through a trap door, that person is said TO HAVE BEEN HANGED!
Ahem. Thank you.

I know it sounds weird. I know it looks weird.
It's like in baseball, right? When a guy strikes out on fly balls, they say "he flied out," right?
Well, there you go.

Sorry. Sometimes I go overboard with my anger of what the Libs want to do to our rights. I do want the LEO’s to be heavily armed in a situation like this and I do feel sorry for the victims. Pointing out the hypocrisy of liberal positions on gun control is something I will continue to do but I will also say a prayer for the victims.

No sorry needed. I snark about that ass Cuomo and his damn seven rounds every chance I get.
And of course he rushed to Herkimer within a couple of hours of the last shooting so that he could grandstand on the bodies just a stones throw from Ilion and the Remington factory. I hate that fing commie.
Humph-I sound angry. Sorry if I offend anyone.
To: martinidon
Did they ever report what kind of shotgun? Double barrel, pump, semi-auto?
BTW - Nothing in Little Andy’s tyrannical gun grab would have touched this. You can’t stop a violent crazy person with a law. You need a gun.

I live in Rome, NY, and remember taking my kids to the Diamond Mine when they were little. In an earlier posting, I stated that I knew one of the men killed today. I worked with Mike Renshaw at Midstate Correctional Facility in Marcy, NY. I was a Sergeant at the time. The Union press release states that Mike had 23 years in the department. As well, a retired Correction Officer was also killed by the same perp...at the barbershop. Mike Ransear had 18 years in the department. He had retired from Mohawk Correctional Facility, which is a hop, skip, and a jump from where I live. I don't believe I knew him. Here's the link to the Union's press release:

I live in Herkimer, yesterday just about all the busineeses were shut down. Tens of State Police and Home Land Security took over N Main sT. The shooter was holed up in the Glory Days Restuarant that has been closed about 5 years. About 30 minutes ago, a State Police/FBI team entered the building with a dog, and located the shooter in the basement. Shooter shot the dog, and the SP/FBI team shot and killed the shooter. Game over

Prayers up for your community and the families of those who were killed.

It was good to be a guy in the Oneida Community. :-))

OK now. So two of those people murdered were corrections officers, the others were in the wrong place at the time this guy went nuts. It seems too much of a coincidence that two of those killed were officers.
To: Ladysforest
"It seems too much of a coincidence that two of those killed were officers."
One was still working, while the other had retired. They were from different facilities in the Mohawk Valley. They were killed in two different villages. It does seem strange, but so far there has been no link found between the victims and the perp, and no motive discovered for the shootings.

More than likely a situation involving some long-past incident of infidelity on the part of someone. No one is going to talk.

I don't believe there was any case of infidelity involved. I think the guy was a whack job, probably a paranoid-schizophrenic. Below is the link to an article that appeared in the Auburn (NY) Citizen today. There's comments from his old boss, and some neighbors. The comments are pretty telling in regards to his personality and behavior.

Guy goes nuts, gets a gun, kills some people.
Obviously a situation the Founding Fathers never foresaw.
Great excuse to do away with the Second Amendment. And maybe the First and the Fourth while we’re at it.
