Abstract Text: DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant: Sexual Orientation and Obesity: Test of a Gendered Biopsychosocial Model Obesity is one of the most critical public health issues affecting the U.S. today.
Racial and socioeconomic disparities in the determinants, distribution, and consequences of obesity are receiving increasing attention; however, one area that is only beginning to be recognized is the striking interplay of gender and sexual orientation in obesity disparities.
It is now well-established that women of minority sexual orientation are disproportionately affected by the obesity epidemic, with nearly three-quarters of adult lesbians overweight or obese, compared to half of heterosexual women. In stark contrast, among men, heterosexual males have nearly double the risk of obesity compared to gay males.

Wow- They’re just now findign that out? How many billions of dollars went into that study? Coiuld have just asked ANYONE on the street and they could have told you folks that for free- Not only is it dangerous for those who partake in that sin- but also to those who don’t that have to come into contact with htem, care for them, when they give blood without knowing if they are hiv positive- sharing needles on and on and on- but apparently it’s just okey dokey for htem to endanger other people’s lives, but not for smokers to smoek in their own homes because it ‘might lead to’ a health risk for osmone that might enter said home? (Californication to ban smoking in home in recent news) Gay people can walk all over san fraqnsico naked, dribblign hteir disease infested bodily liquids all over the city- posing health risks to EVERYONE- but people are no logner allowed to smoek in their own homes?
I have to wonder about the correlation. Are they fat because of some physical aspect of homosexuality (possible connection to the so-called “fat virus”), or are they fat because they’re “rebelling” against stereotypical body image pressures (don’t have to try to be thin for each other etc)?

The milions those idiots spend on studies to simple questions is obscene!
I’m really kind of surprised they did this study ... because of the old principle of “don’t ask the question if you don’t want to know the answer.”
Okay, so WHY are the lesbians obese? Does lesbianism somehow make them fundamentally unhappy so they’re binge eating? (Ice cream, that is!) Alternatively, do lesbians have some sort of body chemistry misalignment such that they tend to become obese more easily? And if so ... does that mean that homosexuality, rather than being just a “variation” on humanity in the same way that blue, brown and green eyes are variations, is in fact a genetic defect?
And if that defect were to be cured, would homosexuality vanish? And would they *want* homosexuality to be cured, or would they be like some deaf parents who actually hope their kids will also be deaf so that they will stay within the deaf culture along with the parents?
Hm ... don’t ask questions if you’re not prepared for answers!
The study was several years back compiling ages from obituaries of homosexuals (it may have been limited to California).

I don’t see a bright side.
AIDS costs the taxpayer a boat load of money in treatment and fungible research dollars for a 99.999% preventable disease. The AIDS rate has not declined in the US - 45,000 new cases a year. And they are living longer at taxpayer expense. But these topics are verboten as AIDS is the only epidemic where those carrying the disease have the highest level of privacy rights of any disease.
Now to lesbians. The least likely group to contract AIDS are lesbians. Gay men wanted nothing to do with lesbian causes and refused to combine forces prior to the AIDS epidemic. After, they were happy to join forces and let lesbians campaign for them to get money and rights for their preventable disease. Maybe lesbians need to have their diminished intelligence studied. Why are they throwing in with gay men whose issues have nothing to do with them? They should be campaigning for breast cancer research dollars.
It is foolish to lump gays together. Male homosexuality is totally different than lesbianism - different in cause and effect.
Lesbianism is a social choice of women who often reject standards of beauty and female gender roles. Did this ridiculous study determine at what age the obesity began? I think there is a confusion of cause and effect.
