California Raiders Seize Guns as Owners Lose right to Arms
Santa Cruz Sentinel ^ | 03/13/2013 | Michael B. Marois and James Nash

Wearing bulletproof vests and carrying 40-caliber Glock pistols, nine California Justice Department agents assembled outside a ranch-style house in a suburb east of Los Angeles. They were looking for a gun owner who'd recently spent two days in a mental hospital.

They knocked on the door and asked to come in. About 45 minutes later, they came away peacefully with three firearms.

California is the only state that tracks and disarms people with legally registered guns who have lost the right to own them, according to Attorney General Kamala Harris. Almost 20,000 gun owners in the state are prohibited from possessing firearms, including convicted felons, those under a domestic violence restraining order or deemed mentally unstable.

Unfortunatley those who are doing the firearms “take away” will soon run into someone who wants to keep their guns instead of giving them up. The outcome will NOT be good and the press will love the followup story opportunities.

This is a travesty in this country. WOn’t be long and they can fabricate ANYTHING the need to decide you a “unfit” to have a weapon.

We as a nation are SO SCREWED.

When the libtards in this state enacted the Domestic Violence Restraining Law any alleged violent act reported to the police via 911, by your girlfriend, wife or anyone living with you immediately brings a five year suspension of your right to keep and bear arms.

Deprivation of property without due process. This is clearly unconstitutional.

I have no problem with taking the right to keep and bear if a person has been found insane by a court with a jury.

First it’s for just a few reasons. Then it’s for more reasons. Then it’s because of your Facebook profile. Then it’s for any reason at all.

Sounds like a HIPAA violation. How did they know he was in the hospital?

I do. Slippery slope. Try reading the second amendment it ends "shall not be infringed." Not shall not be infringed except for people who fall into the following categories. Ben Franklin has something to say to you:

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety
Look up the definition of "useful idiots" as defined by Stalin

our American law Enforcement agencies will have no trouble finding “oficers” to do their bidding, and in fact will find stand out volunteers. It’s a power trip.

I would argue that they already have plenty of people who fit that definition in their current ranks.

Brain dead. If you have no faith in the jury system you are not an American.

We have a generation of combat tested vets all over America and they know how to react under fire and better still they know the tactics of the government goon squads and it scares them to death. Thus the push for PTSD vets not having guns and the more the merrier for the fascists in power.

I did. It came up: "idiot = Carry_Okie"

If you have no faith in the jury system you are not an American.

OJ Simpson would agree with you tootsie roll. Yes, juries are famous for getting it right.

Person in the lead article was never committed by a judge, was there voluntarily, left voluntarily, and was not a felon.

Only a nurses note that said she thought this person was “suicidal”. Not a doctor, not an adjudicator... a Nurse.

This is a really bad precedent. Ignoring it isn’t going to make it go away. An appeal to a hopelessly broken “legal system” isn’t real brilliant either. I say “legal system” as “justice” no longer has anything to do with it...

Should be happening now...

I guess we’ll see if Americans still have the guts to make the hard choices.

Right now, I’m not seeing it.

Yes, juries are famous for getting it right.

Especially in Kalifornia's 9th Circus. Spend $2 million in legal fees, ten years of your life, and still end up screwed at the end of it all.

Shall not be infringed.

I see. Guns for five-year-olds, right? After all, they're citizens, so they have unalienable rights too, and seeing as they're unalienable, we need special guns that are easier for five-year-olds to use. We also need guns for gorks in mental hospitals, you know, the people who can't even control their eyes. Anybody who gets shot, well that's their own damned fault for not being first on the draw.

Somehow, I don't think that's what Mr. Madison meant.

Yes, juries are famous for getting it right.

That's why we have appeals. I am perfectly comfortable with the barrier of a judicial finding.

I agree completely with your assessment of this case, but as to the "legal system," in system design we have to start somewhere. I'd say it's our socialized education system at fault there, not the legal system architecture (which has its faults elsewhere).

I just don't think that with the cost of incarceration and treatment there would be so many errors in a system to adjudicate commitment for insanity that it would be a major problem.

Ruby Ridge and Waco didn’t end well. The SLA saga in Philli also didn’t end well. Create a stand off? Thata’s a tough one.

There is a large class of people in the usa just like you. They're comfortable with all sorts of government restrictions, and many of them are dependent on the government as a provider of stolen goods. They're called liberals or Democrats or statists or 0bama voters. You self identify as a member of that elite group.
