MP apologises for calling BBC racist over Papal update ‘black or white’ smoke tweet
The Drum, various ^ | March 13, 2013

Labour MP David Lammy has apologised after accusing the BBC of being racist following its tweet which said "LIVE VIDEO: Chimney of Sistine Chapel as conclave votes for #Pope - will smoke be black or white?"

Lammy replied saying: "This tweet from the BBC is crass and unnecessary. Do we really need silly innuendo about the race of the next Pope?"

However, after receiving several messages alerting him to the fact that black smoke appears from a Vatican chimney when no decision has been made, and white smoke alerts the public to the election of a new Pope, the politician realised his mistake.

He tweeted: "Note to self: do not tweet from the Chamber with only one eye on what you're reading. Sorry folks, my mistake."

I was surprised that it took this long for a clueless, hysterical, race-obsessed Leftist to work "racism" into the black/white smoke signals.

His apology suggested to me that he was being serious in his earlier tweets.....and he hasn’t (yet) claimed to be making a joke. The twitter users rushing to help him out in his misunderstanding also seemed to think he was being serious too.

I do give him credit for apologizing and admitting his mistake, however.....something Leftists almost never do.

Labour MP embarrassed after claiming that 'white or black' smoke tweet about the Pope is about race - Telegraph

One user replied to the MP: “Do you not know how the fact that a pope has been chosen is signalled? White=new pope black=no decision. Basic general knowledge.”

However, Mr Lammy was undeterred and sent another message which said: “It's the juxtaposition of Pope and black and white. But maybe I'm just weary of the endless discussion of race[?].”

(Edit)

Mr Lammy famously came last when he appeared on Celebrity Mastermind while he was minister for higher education.

When asked, which king succeeded Henry VIII to the throne, Mr Lammy replied, "Henry VII".

An apology really doesn’t cut it since the offense wasn’t so much an accusatory and ignorant tweet as it was the ongoing and continual offense of being profoundly stupid. As a stupid person, this individual will be a constant burden on society long after the tweet in question is forgotten, and for that serious transgression, there is no adequate apology.

They are if you live in Great Britain. Personally I like his tweet about how he is tired of everything being about race when it he who brought up race in the first place. It just goes to show you that no matter where in the world you are the liberal mind is the same.

This guy should be made an honorary member of the US Congress's Black Caucus and then ship them and enough of their voters off to Guam - until the island does capsize.

Lammy is right. It is RACIST that the black smoke indicates no pope. Why does black have to indicate failure? Is the Catholic Church saying that blacks can’t decide on anything? That is RACIST.

will this race card and being victim ever stop.?

I;m so sick of this crap, not just a few years there was common sense and no onewanted to be a victim but alas today it seems millions of people like playing victim and then using the race, card, the religion card, the homosexuals card ,the what ever card is out there today.

Why can;t people get on wiht life and stop taking words or actions so serious?

Honestly I am so sick of all of this, rememebr when sticks and stones may break my bones but will never hurt me.

That is something I raise my kids with, who cares if someone who I couldn;t careless about calls me a name, I;ve been called all sorts and back then one could getting away wiht sorting thta foolk out but today we all have to cry, or supposed to cry, well not me or my family, we’re not victims regardless of what past there is.

Racism is absolutely all around us, if you look for it. For example, in chess, whoever plays white always goes first! If that's not an archetypal illustration of the innate and endemic racism that permeates our society, then I don't know what is. It beats into the collective unconscious that blacks are always second, always behind.

I think a reform campaign to alter Chess rules is needed to redress this obvious injustice. Which goes first could be randomly determined, but then that might still mean there would be "movement first color injustice", as randomly black might still come last all the time. A better solution would be to alternate who goes first (starting with black, to compensate for centuries of "racist movement initiation").
