‘Your Home Is Your Castle’: Alabama Gun Owner Drops Home Intruder With One Deadly Shot

An Alabama homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar while defending his property on Tuesday night. It is merely the latest instance of a gun owner using a firearm to combat a criminal, which TheBlaze has reported on extensively.

The gun owner dropped the home intruder with just one shot from his shotgun, according to police. Investigators do not expect any charges to be filed against the homeowner as it appears to be a clear-cut case of self-defense.

Police responded to a call about a gunshot victim in Albertville, Ala. just before 9 p.m. Tuesday. Assistant Police Chief Jamie Smith told WHNT-TV that the homeowner made the 911 call to report the shooting.

“We are in the early stages of the investigation, but right now we’re treating it as a burglary and the homeowner defending his property,” Smith said, adding that “Your home is your castle, you can only retreat so far as your home.”

He continued: “I’m sure at the time he felt he was in danger so he took what action he thought he needed to take at the time to protect himself… You can back away from anything but home is as far backwards as you can go. At what point do you leave your house to let them have it?”

“If that’s even a question,” Smith added, “and in my mind, it wouldn’t be.”

The assistant police chief went on to say he is a “supporter of the Second Amendment” and defended residents’ right to “do what you’ve got to do and…use what tools are necessary.”

Due to protocol, the case will still be presented to the Grand Jury but police don’t expect and indictment.

“Police have not released the intruder’s identity as they are working to locate and inform his family, but Smith said police are familiar with the burglar from previous investigations,” WHNT-TV reports.

I’m curious to know what ammo the guy used.

And when the homeowner gets a no-billed, the matter is finished.

Thanks for the laugh. Just picture walking in "Yes sir, what do you... what the %$!@* happened here?!" (looking at gore, fingerprint dust, crime scene tape, etc.) ... "Uh, it's ok, had an intruder the other night..." Something for that crew to talk about back at the office...

I know, not nice, not "pc" to laugh at the thought of the demise of another human being. But a little dark humor once in a while...

My 90 lb lab is my alarm system. Her job is to let me know, distract whoever is coming in, and buy me the few seconds I need to pick up whatever firearm is handy. That could be any combination of 9mm or .45 with hollow points, a 12 ga with #1 buck, or the AR with my “party mix” mag of FMJ, frangible hollow points, and green tip penatrator rounds (go through everything but plate body armor)...

One shot from a shotgun will usually do it!

(Just wait until liberals find out about "assault buckshot weapons."

We live in a nice country club neighborhood. Last week the house 3 doors down from us was burglarized during the daytime while the neighbors were at work. Sunday night at 10:45 pm the perps came back, kicked in the front door, went up the stairs and tried to get in the master bedroom while the neighbors were in there in bed watching tv.
I told them....good thing they didn’t choose our house, they would have met several bullets.
It doesn’t seem to matter where you live here anymore, no place is ‘safe’.

The most important thing to remember in a home invasion is to have planned for it. Think about the many different ways it could happen.

1. What do I do if it is more than one person.

2. Where are other members of my family and how do I protect them under different scenarios.

3. Should I try and escape my home with my family or stand and fight. Is escaping or fighting the safest course of action. Relative to fighting one must remember that if a bad guy has broken into your home he is prepared to use deadly violence on you.

4. Know your weapon, know your weapon, know your weapon and become proficient with it. If you can not load and utilize your weapon in the dark by feel only, you do not know your weapon. Practice practice practice.

5. Any action you take should increase the chances of you and your families survival. If fleeing the home increase survival chances, do it. If killing the bad guy increases survival, do it.

6. If you do kill or injure the bad guy, call 911 and request medical and police asap. Tell 911 nothing except the scene is safe, and there has been an injury due to firearms. When the police arrive for gods sake do not have a firearm visible on your person or near you. You might get shot. After you call 911, call your lawyer.

7. Inform the police that you were in fear of your life and will cooperate fully with them as soon as your lawyer speaks to you. THEN SHUT-UP and do exactly what your lawyer says.

Make damn sure you know your state's laws on the use of deadly force. What is legal in Texas could get you brought up on murder charges in New York, Chicago, Massachusetts, etc>

An Alabama man with a shotgun can probbly hit a one ounce Dove flying at 60 MPH in a high wind. Intruders should have more respect.
