Britain's Labor Party suspended Pakistan-born Muslim peer Nazir Ahmed on Thursday over reports that he blamed a Jewish conspiracy for his imprisonment over a fatal car crash.
Ahmed, who was imprisoned for dangerous driving after sending multiple text messages shortly before the accident, had blamed his jail sentence on pressure placed on British courts by Jews "who own newspapers and TV channels", the Times of London reported.
He allegedly told a Pakistani television station that the judge who jailed him for 12 weeks was appointed after helping a "Jewish colleague" of former prime minister Tony Blair during a case, according to a translations of his Urdu language comments obtained by the newspaper.
"The Labor Party deplores and does not tolerate any sort of anti-Semitism. Following reports in The Times today we are suspending Lord Ahmed pending an investigation," a party spokesman said.
Lord Ahmed, 55, who was appointed Britain's first Muslim peer in 1998, also maintained that the plot to stemmed from Jewish disapproval of his support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

I don’t know how it is now, but they used to allow MPs to drive drunk.
Here’s a fuller write-up in the Jerusalem Post.
Martyn Gombar was only a Slovak. How dare the Jooos! get him sentenced to 16 whole days in jail for plowing into him at 70 mph./s
Patches Kennedy’s dream job.
There, now. That’s progress for you. Milard Ahmed wasn’t drunk.
Who’s Enoch Powell?
British politician who warned there would be “Rivers of Blood” in the UK didn’t restrict immigration.
Oh. Well, that’s only just starting. The rivulets will eventually converge into rivers. In the mean time, let’s start arresting MHLs who are driving with a drunk chauffeur, or at least their chauffeurs. That’ll solve everything./s
His sentence was overturned after an appeal after he served 16 days in prison, so Labour for whatever reason had not started proceedings to suspend or banish him.
Then again, Blair’s govt and Labour were a corrupt govt, so that dosent surprise me.
“According to the Times, three Court of Appeal judges refused to quash Ahmeds conviction. They maintained that the sentence was justified and that there should not be one law for the rich and powerful and one law for the rest.
However the appeal court did agree to the exceptional course of suspending the sentence for 12 months after learning that his sentence would hinder Ahmeds work building bridges between the Muslim world and others.
The peer was freed after serving only 16 days in jail.”
It seems that we were both mistaken. He’s still got the rest of the sentence hanging over his head, but it was suspended for 12 months. How many months ago was that suspension? Will he appeal to the House of Lords? Will he get to vote on his own appeal? Does he get to hang poachers caught on his lands, but get punished if he says anything anti-Semitic about it? This whole case is sick.
