Musician's salt-stained violin emerges as the most important relic from the Titanic

This violin was unsinkable.

A rosewood violin played by bandmaster Wallace Hartley on the Titanic deck as the ship sank has been confirmed as authentic by investigators, and could soon be brought to auction.

The cracked, water-damaged instrument is easily one of the most significant artifacts from the century-old tragedy.

Hartley led seven other band members in hymns to calm passengers as they lined up for lifeboats.

He and the other musicians went down with the ship while performing “Nearer, My God, To Thee.”

“When we first saw the violin, we had to keep a lid on our excitement, because it was almost as if it was too good to be true,” said Titanic auctioneer Andrew Aldridge, of Henry Aldridge and Son, who spent seven years of research to confirm its authenticity.

Wait, you mean the most important relic from Titanic isn’t Jack’s drawing of Rose’s boobies ?

“He and the other musicians went down with the ship while performing “Nearer, My God, To Thee.”

But they found the violin in its case strapped to his drowned corpse. Ipso Facto the above legend is untrue.

I would posit that as the bandmaster, he whipped out his baton, rather than digging the violin out of the valise he had strapped to himself.

More of a curiosity to me is how 25% of the comments can be pulled from such a small thread about a fairly benign subject.

Unless I'm out of the au courant culture loop again.

How about: He went down with the ship but his body floated free? It didn't say he went all the way down.

It’s not comments being pulled, it’s photos. I think the source pics are on the no-no post list.

If you want on or off this list, please let me know via FR e-mail.

That IS ironic - because we’re listening to 0bama ‘fiddle’ right this minute as the ‘USS America’ is sinking!

*SPIT*

(Awesome find, though. I love stuff like this!)

And just like Nero he wants to rebuild the nation in his image. His followers demonize the Christian faith, blame the destruction of our nation on Christian values, and bow to Obama's fathers god. They infiltrate the Church and impose pagan beliefs. When will he take that next step and start openly persecuting Christians?
