FoxNews ^ | March 14, 2013 | Juan Williams

What if the contest over the future of the GOP is not between Tea Party ideologues and moderate establishment-types?

What if the real contest is between Republicans who care about winning elections and profiteers who care about making consulting fees off the political process?

the real contest

To put it another way, I think the real issue is between those that put the Party first and those that put America first.

At the Federal level we have a one party system. The state level politics looks a little more promising, maybe some hope there...

Yes, posted this because it either draws a parallel to (or perhaps Juan is plagiarizing) Caddell’s argument.

Juan is an idiot.

Don’t know why FOX hired him, except he is black. And they felt sorry for him after NPR threw him under the bus.

There are Republican Committees within the House of Representatives and the Senate who make the decision on who is most electable, then suggest to the campaigns which consultants would serve the candidates best.

This is political cronyism of the worst sort.

Who in Hell wants those cretins in the Republican establishment deciding who should represent us in Congress? Their only reason for doing this is to maintain themselves in power.

I found that interesting as well that Juan and Pat both are writing about this.

Unfortunately for the GOP it hasn't been about ideology and beliefs for a long time. Those who profess that they are interested in "winning elections" are chameleons who go which ever way they think the wind blows. The trouble is, is that they don't even fool enough weak minded dims to win on a consistent basis. Others, who leech off consulting fees (karl rove comes to mind) lack any sort of patriotism - they don't care what is happening to the Country, only that they receive a fat paycheck.

That is why Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have struck such a responsive note with the public. They are the first ones in a long, long time that have put principles first and have had the courage to stand up and defend them!

I think the real reason Fox hired him was the hopes of favorable press from the establishment.

It's been pretty obvious for a long time.

The liberals have enough baggage to bring them down but someone has to lead the attack. There is nothing to be gained from not rocking the boat.

Allen West wasn't pushed out of office by democrats, he was shot down by RINOS. Ted Cruz will be next, if we let it happen.

Anyone afraid to defend The Constitution is not a Republican.

Why is ideology a dirty word? Without an intellectual basis politicians are just mercenaries.

Its not only leadership that's missing.

One reason is the public rectal exam of “opposition research” by the power at any cost dems, which has been gleefully adopted by the GOPe.

There are many capable conservatives who do not wish to be forced to bend over and grab their knees on TV. Most truly intelligent conservative who has any business experience is smart to stay away from national politics.

My Senator, Ted Cruz as well as Rand Paul and Marco Rubio are exceptions. Either they have no skeletons or are confident they can defend their life since one day old. Each of these were raised by parents who experienced harsh political adversity like Castro, who taught their sons to be be strong and speak their minds with bravery and do the right things in spite of the tsunami of smears and persecution bound their way.

Right. 'Cause Democrats NEVER try to make a buck off the system.

Kind of a silly notion.

Losing elections is not a viable business strategy for a consultant.

I find it interesting that Juan is not crediting or sourcing Caddell. He was bringing this message to the GOP DURING THE CAMPAIGN.

What I’ve seen lately, especially after Rand’s fillibuster -

it’s a divide between those who implicitly trust government
and those who are inherently suspicious of government power.
