Gov. Martinez to attend Pope Francisí inaugural Mass (others Biden, Pelosi, DeGioia)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | March 15, 2013 | Dan Boyd

Posted on 03/15/2013 11:48:18 AM PDT by CedarDave

Gov. Susana Martinez [R-NM] will join a four-member U.S. delegation that will attend the celebratory Mass for Pope Francis next week, according to the White House.

Other members of the delegation include U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and Georgetown University President John DeGioia.

Martinez’s office just released this statement from the first-term Republican governor:

“It is my honor to represent New Mexico and our nation as a member of the U.S. delegation traveling to Rome for the inaugural Mass for His Holiness Pope Francis. As a lifelong Roman Catholic, I feel deeply privileged and humbled to have the opportunity to meet the new pope. The Catholic Church plays a vital role in the lives of New Mexicans and more than 1 billion people across the globe. I look forward to congratulating His Holiness on behalf of my fellow citizens and celebrating the inauguration of the first Pope from the Americas.”

I don't know about the others but Martinez divorced and remarried. Pelosi supports abortion. Must have been better choices.

If everything I’ve read is true about our new Pope, these four should NOT receive the body during the communion procession. I hope Pope Francis starts making examples, I REALLY do!

In fact, I wonder if this isn’t even understood by DC as a kind of insult to the new pope?

(Of course, the VP might go; but the Senate Minority Leader—especially one who is so outspoken on violating Catholic doctrine?)

Any serious pro-life Catholic would refuse to join a delegation that includes pro-abortion “Catholics.”

There ARE no Catholics in public life who would refuse to join these pro-abortion “Catholics” in this delegation.

Which means: Serious, principled opposition to abortion—i.e., that treats pro-aborts with the scorn and disgust they deserve as mass murderers—does not (yet) exist in public life in America.

agree, I only hope the Pope talks about what marriage is and it;s certainly not two men who think they shoudl marry because of feces sex.

I hope he mentions how world leaders have called themselves Catholics but then push anti Catholic agendas

Of course they know it is an insult. It is precisely why this delegation was put together. It is a show of force against the Roman Catholic Church.

As someone else said, I hope...nay I pray...this group is denied communion. The political ramifications of them receiving communion “from the Pope,” would be devastating to the American Catholic Church.

Pope Francis has dealt with fascists before and I hope God gives him the wisdom to deal with them on the world stage.

how do you know Martinez did not get her marriage annulled?? My wife was married to a crack head who sold her jewelry and a car they owed money on to feed his habit...she stayed with him through rehab- until he stole a car from rehab so he could go and buy crack....she then said she had enough (and btw- she reached out to his parents- the father being a local chief of police- and they did nothing)...

my wife had the marriage annulled- probably her fault for hooking up with the guy anyway- and we got married 12 years later...

Actually, I'm hoping and praying that Nancy sees the error of her ways, and repents, both to save her from Hell and to save us in this world from the horrors she promotes.

If she repents, I'll forgive her, because that is exactly what Jesus told us to do in the Lord's Prayer. Remember, forgiveness is a two-way street with a twist:

"forgive us our trespasses AS we forgive who trespass against us."

It may have been. From what I have been to quickly locate, she was married to a fellow law school graduate for three years before they split. Since 1991 she has been married to her current husband, Chuck Franco who has a son by his previous marriage.

At a Mass the size this one will be, it’s unlikely the Pope himself would distribute Communion but that it would be done by a variety of young priests strategically located throughout the cathedral or the plaza outside St. Peter’s if it’s an outdoor Mass. I have a memory of the Bushes being at an outdoor ceremony, but that was probably the funeral Mass for JPII.

I respectfully disagree. If I had the opportunity to go, I'd go in a heartbeat. I wouldn't travel with them. Or socialize with them. But I'd still go to represent faithful Catholicism in the US. Why should the face of dissident Catholics be the only US face presented to the Holy Father? It's not my role to shepherd these folks. The cardinals in Rome can admonish them about causing scandal--and should IMHO. But I wouldn't let the behavior of others rob me of a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Heck yeah, I'd go in a minute!

Serious, principled opposition to abortion—i.e., that treats pro-aborts with the scorn and disgust they deserve as mass murderers—does not (yet) exist in public life in America

Was it scorn and disgust that turned Abby Johnson prolife? Or any of the other abortion workers that 40 Days for Life has helped to leave the industry? I understand your point. I don't believe in rewarding proaborts, politicians or otherwise. But I'm not sure that scorn and disgust accomplishes a whole lot. It lets me distance myself and view myself as superior, but is that the way the Lord asked us to treat our enemies?

Peace be with you.

Actually, it is just the opposite. Pelosi and Biden are making an example of the Catholic Church, proving one can openly go against and encourage others, to defy the doctrine, and still receive the sacraments. Obama’ s invitation to Notre Dame was no different, except he isn’t a Catholic. He was honored by them, even though he supports the murder of unborns and was elected to do so by many “practicing” Catholics.

I hope the Papal Swiss Guards distribute pictures of Pelosi and Biden to all of the Eucharistic ministers and priests who will be giving communion. They should be instructed not to give communion to those phonies. It would be a public scandal to give communion to them. They can get a blessing instead. I will be watching.

I distinguish between abortion-mill workers—who are often well-intentioned, and often convert—from cold-blooded, cold-hearted people like Biden and Pelosi, who are pro-abortion because they are cynics. How many pro-aborts in public office have converted to pro-life WHILE IN OFFICE? ZERO! This is just an indication of how thoroughly they have given themselves over to evil. They are much worse than abortion-mill workers. They are worse than some abortionists. Abortionists have become pro-life at a higher rate than pro-abortion politicians.

John 15:18-21

Follow our prayers for one month. Then get back to us RCers. You have no idea of what you speak. Go to http://dailygospel.org/M/AM/ ... this gospel readings are said everyday around the world. Also, the Liturgy of the Hours is prayed 24/7 throughout the world at http://www.universalis.com/...

This is our creed.
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p1s2c1p7.htm

There is NO SIN that has not been defeated by the Cross. That includes Pelosi and Biden sins. We pray for their salvation and conversion daily. As should be done for all apostates.

We believe in free will, something that can be foreign to certain protestant denominations, as in pre-destination (calvin).

That’s a bridge too far. Hoping somebody goes to Hell is to HATE that person.

I hope every evil befalls Nancy Pelosi (disease, poverty, etc., etc.) that may be necessary to bring her to acknowledge her own powerlessness and smallness, and the greatness and reality of almighty God.

But Jesus forbids us to hate anyone—and therefore, forbids us to hope that anyone, even Hitler, even Pelosi, goes to Hell.

After hour of hearing of the new Pope, Never heard the Name of Jesus.

Try turning the volume on next time.

He told the Cardinals - "Starting from the authentic collegial affection that united the College of Cardinals, I express my desire to serve the Gospel with renewed love, helping the Church to become ever more in Christ and with Christ, the fruitful life of the Lord. Stimulated by the Year of Faith, all together, pastors and faithful, we will make an effort to respond faithfully to the eternal mission: to bring Jesus Christ to humanity, and to lead humanity to an encounter with Jesus Christ: the Way, the Truth and the Life, truly present in the Church and, at the same time, in every person."

This is one of many statements which should please all who follow Christ.

Arthur, I understand what you're saying. I'm not trying to be argumentative :) I think your post struck a nerve because I struggle sometimes, well a LOT of times, with the best way to deal with evil.

I often ask myself, how would Jesus deal with this? I remember his whip in the temple. And his patience trying to reach others with words, giving his detractors more courtesy than they were willing to give him. Or the time he just walked away. And I ask which, in my state in life, am I called to do? If sin is enslavement, then am I called to free the sinner or shun him? Love, even if expressed only as prayer for conversion, is something I can do and be confident in pleasing God. After that it gets more difficult for me. I struggle with when it's best to separate myself from evil and when it's best to love (charitable behavior that doesn't enable the sin) when it's really, REALLY difficult.

But that's just me. Others in different vocations and with different gifts from the Holy Spirit may be called to act differently. Your point about politicians vs clinic staff is well taken. Maybe my thoughts about loving the sinner is really enabling when it comes to those in public life. I'll have to prayerfully ponder this more. Thanks for taking time to respond.

Peace be with you.

I really never understood the whole Catholic thing because for the most part, I was never exposed to any Catholics.

I was a student of the Nazarenes in Jr. High, High School and college, because the girls couldn't go to dances, play cards, go to movies, wear makeup or listen to music.

On the positive side, they had to wear skirts or dresses. That left one thing to do for entertainment.

Catholics started the church at the direction of Jesus under St. Peter 2100 years ago, and their traditions and rituals are designed to advance the Christian cause and fight satan and his demons.

The antics of the German heretic Luther and his buddy Henry the VIII 500 years ago have given us this:

Evil abounds in the "churches" that have broken from Rome.
