Councilman Kwame Kenyatta and a packed room of Detroiters warned today of an impending revolt against state intervention, urging residents to stock up on canned food and supplies.
Even the Bloods in the hood fight for their territory, Kenyatta said during a 20-minute monologue on the civil rights struggle at todays city council meeting. You are going to have to drag me out of here for me to leave.
Kenyatta cited Frederick Douglass, a former slave who became an intellectual and civil rights icon, because of his position that black people must sacrifice their lives, if necessary, to win freedom and the right to vote. Many in the audience stood up and applauded.
One by one, Detroiters pledged to take to the streets once Gov. Rick Snyder appoints an emergency manager, which is expected Thursday or Friday. Others threatened to block the entrance of city hall.
Save up and purchase food, canned goods and water because you are going to see a new civil rights movement, pledged Marie Thornton, a former Detroit Public Schools Board member. I wont give up my right to vote. We are going to shut down freeways and we are going to disrupt the economic system.
Added Valerie Glenn, a community activist: Make sure you are prepared and you will survive.
Protests so far have been nonviolent. Demonstrators slowed traffic to a few miles per hour on I-75 and I-94 in the past week. But thats mild for whats to come, some warned.
What about black Detroiters who arent prepared to fight?
We have fought for everything we have; how do you sit on the sidelines? Kenyatta asked.
They'll come around in no time.
I have no idea what they are hoping to accomplish.
Always good advice.
Let the audits begin.Pretty soon Kenyatta and friends will be headed to prison.
The only thing that comes to mind is Watts.....that worked out so well the last time it was tried. ;-)
Kwame Kenyatta? Is that the name on his birth certificate? Or did he change his name to make some African pride statement? Kenyatta, he has an affinity for Kenya???
Kenyatta Moonbatta?
Strong is the graft in Detroit.
Don’t yell at me for this, but I caught the talk on PBS with the Gov. and the new “Emergency Manager” and they came across as intelligent men.
what are they fighting for, the status quo?!? their city is falling apart and bankruot and they want to prop up the people that they’ve vote dfor that have made it this way.
i am sure the governor, if possible, would rather disown detroit from michigan and let these people crumble from themselves, but that just isn’t possible. they have to come in and clean up the mess detroiters have made and are rolling arpund in, b/c they cannot clean themselves up. 50+ years of mismanagement and decay and detroit IS THIRD WORLD RIGHT HERE.
many, many libtard metro areas are following right behind them.
The agitators want to keep the gravy train rolling for as long as possible.
Someone quick take Before and After pics. Bet you won’t be able to tell the difference!
Been no change since that time.
Detroit was so enhanced by the action in ‘67.
It remains unclear exactly what these poor souls are unhappy about.
She won’t give up her right to vote??? What does that have to do with a bankrupt city? And Kwame Kenyatta is getting awful dramatic about being fired from a job he failed at.
No wonder they totally flopped.
Detroit is bankrupt and its racist demagogues talk of a new “civil rights” movement.
Apparently, spending your way into the ground is what qualifies as black empowerment these days. Instead of putting their house in order, Detroiters prefer to rant and blame whitey.
If it was up to me, I’d let the city be razed to the ground. At least something good might grow in the wasteland. And its the toxic waste dump of Michigan.
like everything, blacks believe this is racially motivated, they think their freedoms are somehow being taken away. their black leaders took more away from them the last 50 years and they didn’t complain at all. the governor steps in to finally stp the bleeding and they think the world will end. race baiters have framed this as a race thing.
All sorts of skimmed cash flow from things the City gov’t does (like run the regional Water Dept).
To keep Detroit ruined I guess
They’re all pissed-off about their licence to steal getting revoked.
Burning Detroit to the ground sounds like it will solve MANY problems.
LET’EM!
What economic system is she talking about? Crack retailing?
Just fence the place in and call it a zoo.....
This should be fun to watch.
I guess thievery and stupidity are now civil rights.
“Long live stupidity!”
“We want more government thieves!”
>What about black Detroiters who arent prepared to fight?
What on earth does repairing a corrupted city have to do with race moron? I’m beginning to believe there is an IQ shortage in Detroit.
Perhaps these situations are what those billion hollow points are for?
Still...I do like my 2nd amendment rights.
Didn't work so well in Chicago in 1968 either. There are still parts of the City that have never been re-built and IMO serve as a "reminder."
This is what happens when people with mugabe and mandela-like mentalities are challenged. Expect them to lash out harder as their power structure is threatened, and they lose their grip. I worked quite a few years in and around detroit, and I can say this was expected, and long coming.
Hey if they are going to have an attitude and riot about being completely incompetent, Ohio should just drop leaflets letting normal people know they should seek shelter outside the city in the new protected zones then stop sending money, power and water.
And then when the riot is over they they have burned down their own neighborhoods wait.......
Good luck with that Detroiters. This might be the first test of how Obama will use those MRAPs and some of those 1.6 billion bullets. And uh, drones can see in the dark.
That's what I was thinking. Rise up against whom ? The state appointed executive who will try to save the city from the Kwame Kenyan(s) of the world.
You gotta fight, for your right, to...live in a $#!t-hole?
The voters of Detroit prove that people sometimes never get it and can’t be counted on to do the right thing (not even when their city falls apart). Sometimes we assume that a Chavez or Mugabe couldn’t possibly get elected in a real democratic vote. I give you Kwame Kilpatrick of Detroit - a man reelected even when it was obvious he was a crooked thug. Sure, they all cheat in whatever ways they can - but there really are majorities that sometimes vote for these dangerously incompetent idiots. The folks in Detroit have wrecked their city, and they don’t want anything to change.
Fun to watch from a safe distance, if there is one. I can’t believe they found anyone to take the job of emergency manager.
I say, save the money, build and wall and let it fail but don’t let it or the vermin spread. It is damaged beyond repair. You have to destroy it to save it.
It’s gonna be a long hot summer.
Problem is they use it as a reminder of ‘oppression.’ The good thing is that the majority of smart people, black, white or otherwise are gone. But the ones remaining have a choice to make right now. And they will have to live with the outcome.

It took the 101st ABN to end the 1968 riots.
Indeed. The majority of people in Detroit could literally be starving to death on the street and they'd still vote for a "it's whitey's fault!" Democrat candidate. Sadly, voting tends to be generational. These people will never vote logically or reasonably. Not ever. They will vote Democrat till they are in the grave (and in places like Detroit, probably for years afterwards). Unfortunately, this problem is not unique to American urban areas.
Disagree, I think it’s a reminder to not do that stupid sh*t again.
Maybe they should have a gun buyback program. I’m sure the gangs will happily turn them in before the trouble starts.
Great thread. Thanks to all posters. Detroit was in much better shape during the 1967 riots than it is today. Kwame (former mayor of Detroit) Kilpatrick, the greatest criminal in Michigan history, is now in federal prison. Governor Snyder has appointed an emergency manager for Detroit. Detroit has bottomed out. It is a long road back. I’ve waited a lifetime for this. HOORAY federal prosecutors! HOORAY Governor Snyder! Good luck mayor Dave Bing and all of the outstanding individuals and families in Detroit.
Until it crashes through that bottom and finds a whole new bottom.
Well that was we had a Justice Department. Now we have a Justus Department.
You are right in that you and I, sane people, see it that way. They don’t. It’s an example of how whitey o’pressed them.
It helps them play the victim.
So we should do more of it and let them be the victims they pretend to be. Without any white devil tax dollars to ensure their ‘victimhood’.
