Rove Fires Back after Palin’s Blistering CPAC Speech

Karl Rove sought to turn the tables Sunday on Sarah Palin, jabbing her for stepping down early as Alaska governor, a day after she blistered the GOP consultant in a speech at CPAC.

Palin launched a broadside against the GOP establishment on Saturday at the gathering of conservatives, but directed her sharpest aim at Rove, reports Huffington Post.

“If these experts who keep losing elections and keep getting rehired and getting millions — if they feel that strong about who gets to run in this party, then they should buck-up or stay in the truck,” Palin told CPAC Saturday, according to the publication. “The Architect can head on back to the great Lone Star State and put their name on some ballot — though for their sakes, I hope they give themselves a discount on their consulting services.”

Rove, who was nicknamed “The Architect” by President George W. Bush, pushed back against Palin on Fox News, said the publication.

“I appreciate encouragement I ought to go home to Texas and run for office and, it would be news if I did to have her support. But I don’t think I’m a good candidate — a kind of balding, fat guy,” Rove said, as reported by Huffington Post. “And second, if I did run for office and win, I would serve out my term and I wouldn't leave office midterm.”

Palin resigned as governor in 2009, halfway through her first term in office.

So genius, how would you have dealt with an endless number of frivolous lawsuits, I believe the final count was 21, that Alaska law forced her, by herself, to defend against?

21 frivolous lawsuits, all of which she won, but cost her family over $500,000 and consumed around 80% of her time AND her staffs time to defend against?

Would you really, as an employer(citizen) want your chief executive to be effectively constantly sidelined?

Once again, brainiac, tell us how you would have handled this situation?

no boba vette, they defend Palin because of their loyalty and because of what is lacking in today’s GOP...someone who gets pop culture and conservative values.

By the way, who is your guy? C’mon you can tell us. I’m sure the MSM will dig something up, skew the info and make him/her look like a monster. I’m sure if he/she is attacked, you’d be firing back (blah-blah-blah). Then as the naybobs on FR come attacking, you’ll be saying “Hey, we need to stick together (blah-blah-blah).

Won’t name anyone? Typical

” If she runs in 2016 she’ll obviously will need to have an answer to respond to that question but that’s generally how I see it.”

Good rundown! But as you point out, if she chooses to run again, I can’t see how having stepped down mid-term isn’t going to haunt her. Maybe, she didn’t have any options, but it’s a chilling thought that today you can drive a person from public office with FOIA requests. And you get no argument from me with regard to the GOPe that bunch of pantywaists who don’t want the likes of Palin on the national stage. I guess in hindsight, she probably should not have gone in with McLame, because he and his staff “thanked” her by trashing her during as well as after the campaign. On the other hand, she would probaby be an unknown today without him.

Here, once again, is a portion of her resignation speech detailing, in her own words, why she resigned. Maybe you can open your mind (I'm not holding my breath) and learn something:

Sarah Palin Resignation Speech: FULL VIDEO, TEXT

Some say things changed for me on August 29th last year - the day John McCain tapped me to be his running-mate - I say others changed.

Let me speak to that for a minute.

Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I've been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations - such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters' questions.

Every one - all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We've won! But it hasn't been cheap - the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to "opposition research" - that's money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers - or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the "politics of personal destruction" ... Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn't cost them a dime so they're not going to stop draining public resources - spending other peoples' money in their game.

It's pretty insane - my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now. I know I promised no more "politics as usual," but THIS isn't what anyone had in mind for ALASKA.

If I have learned one thing: LIFE is about choices!

And one chooses how to react to circumstances. You can choose to engage in things that tear down, or build up. I choose to work very hard on a path for fruitfulness and productivity. I choose NOT to tear down and waste precious time; but to build UP this state and our country, and her industrious, generous, patriotic, free people!

Life is too short to compromise time and resources... it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and "go with the flow".

Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".

No. Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time... to BUILD UP.

And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.

I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska - or Outside Alaska.

But I won't do it from the Governor's desk.

I've never believed that I, nor anyone else, needs a title to do this - to make a difference... to HELP people. So I choose, for my State and my family, more "freedom" to progress, all the way around... so that Alaska may progress... I will not seek re-election as Governor.

And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn't run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks... travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade - as so many politicians do. And then I thought - that's what's wrong - many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and "milk it". I'm not putting Alaska through that - I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? That's not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old "politics as usual." I promised that four years ago - and I meant it.

It's not what is best for Alaska.

I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is unconventional and not so comfortable.

With this announcement that I am not seeking re-election... I've determined it's best to transfer the authority of governor to Lieutenant Governor Parnell; and I am willing to do so, so that this administration - with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future - can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success.

My choice is to take a stand and effect change - not hit our heads against the wall and watch valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars, go down the drain in this new environment. Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities - and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans.

Let me go back to a comfortable analogy for me - sports... basketball. I use it because you're nave if you don't see the national full-court press picking away right now: A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket... and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can WIN. And I'm doing that - keeping our eye on the ball that represents sound priorities - smaller government, energy independence, national security, freedom! And I know when it's time to pass the ball - for victory.

I have given my reasons candidly and truthfully... and my last day won't be for another few weeks so the transition will be very smooth. In fact, we will look to swear Sean in - in Fairbanks at the conclusion of our Governor's picnics.

I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you TRUST me with this decision - but it's no more "politics as usual".

Some Alaskans don't mind wasting public dollars and state time. I do. I cannot stand here as your Governor and allow millions upon millions of our dollars go to waste just so I can hold the title of Governor. And my children won't allow it either. ? Some will question the timing. ? Let's just say, this decision has been in the works for awhile...

Frivolous politically motivated lawsuits that were threatening to bankrupt her, including one that went after her because she wore a carhart jacket in public. Shortly after she left office, they changed the laws that allowed such lawsuits. Now, are you satisfied? It wouldn’t have taken much research to find out. Are you aware that her church was firebombed? The media kept that quiet, too. If you want to know the real skinny, you can’t depend on Katie Couric and Jon Stewart.

So what was to keep the people who were using FOIA on her not to just continue the same tactic with her replacement? A half a million bucks in today’s political world is not a lot of money! I know that the Palin’s were people of modest means (that’s actually why I initially was drawn to her because she was a true “citizen politician”), but it does seem strange that a way could not have been found to salvage her governorship. There are Conservatives who could write that kind of a check and it wouldn’t make a dent in their bank accounts.
And just so some of you who really, really like Sarah, calm down, she has the kind of values I want to see in public office. But I want Conservatives who have the ability to win elections (we have had too many McLame’s, Bushes, and Dole’s). And we don’t need any more Akins, Angles, O’Donnells, or Mourdocks either. It pisses me off to no end that these people “tanked” themselves and have kept the Senate in RAT hands. If we don’t get a seat at the table, we don’t get to play the game. I guess if Sarah decides to run in 2016, we will see if she has what it takes to garner enough support to become the nominee. Right now, she would have a headwind if Rubio, Paul, or Cruz decided to make a run! Just pray that the GOPe doesn’t saddle us with “Fat Bastard” Christie, or “Third Turd” Bush!

“She’s a quitter” meme is a cheap shot from the feeble minded—short circuiting the thinking process. When I hear it here, I either think “concern troll” or “seminar poster.”

No politician has faced the adversity that Palin has, strength, leadership, and indestructibility is what she is rightfully known for.

Personally, I think that she had no choice but to resign, to fight her total destruction at the hands of the media, the GOP, and the democrat party, all of the lower 48 states, who all lived and controlled public opinion, thousands of miles from her Governor’s office.

There is no way that Palin could fight the national media, the national Democratic party and the national Romney/Rockefeller branch of the GOP from the governor’s office in Alaska, she could not have traveled to the states and helped restructure the GOP in a more conservative mode, she could not have fought the Obama administration and Washington DC, from the remote distance of Alaska.

Alaska and Hawaii are not the places where a sitting Governor can make and maintain a prominent national presence in the New York, Washington DC, dominated mainland, and if you are the person that the mainland media has launched the most vicious, carefully coordinated media attack against in history, then you and your conservative movement would die on the vine in remote and distant Hawaii or Alaska.
