Skip to comments.CNN is getting hammered for Steubenville coverage (Dinosaur Media DeathWatch™)

CNN on Sunday aggressively covered the breaking news of the verdict in the Steubenville rape case. Star football players Trent Mays, 17, and Malik Richmond, 16, were found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl. Propelled by social media and mainstream media, the Steubenville case has long held a high profile.
The scrutiny that comes with its profile descended on CNN. In repeated segments yesterday, CNN featured reports from reporter Poppy Harlow, who was in Ohio for the verdict. Heres the transcript of some of the coverage at the 11 a.m. hour:
POPPY HARLOW, CNN CORRESPONDENT: "Ive never experienced anything like it, Candy. It was incredibly emotional incredibly difficult even for an outsider like me to watch what happened as these two young men that had such promising futures, star football players, very good students, literally watched as they believe their life fell apart."
The response from Twitter: Not supportive.
Dear @CNN, the verdict didn't "ruin" the "promising" lives of #Steubenville rapists. Their decision to rape did. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/17/cnn-grieves-that-guilty-verdict-ruined-promising-lives-of-steubenville-rapists/#.UUYZwiNjwvA.twitter
CNN seems more concerned about the convicted rapist than the rape victim. This is astonishing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvUdyNko8LQ

This is the same mentality that guns kill and, as sarah Palin put it, forks make us fat....
I wonder if both rapists were white, if they would have worried about their lives being “ruined.”
CNN’s own War On Women! ...War On Raped Women That
Destroy Fine Young Men’s Lives!
“I wonder if both rapists were white, if they would have worried about their lives being ruined.”
If the rapists were white and the victim was black (extremely rare according to FBI stats), Wolf Blitzer would be looping coverage 24/7 about the “white predator rapist criminals” and the innocent victim. Race would be the number one issue covered in such situation.
Mom, dad (if there is one), you did a great job instilling good values in your son!
And by the way, I'll bet that he has no plan B - what to do if, like 99% of college athletes - he does not make it into the professionals.
I was gunna write something, but my keyboard is forever misspelling words.
"She was so poor, and she was so black..."
not hammered enough.
advertisers are not leaving cnn.
And what of their victim? Is she chopped liver? This is a travesty of journalism, Feel sorry for the thugs and ignore their victim............
CNNs Steubenville coverage called too sympathetic to teens found guilty
At my age, they keys are in different places each day....
Rather, that if both rapists had been black, how long the story would have lasted before being disappeared.
Who could possibly take a reporter named “Poppy” seriously? I’d call her reporting “poppycock.”
CNN sees this as a sign of great racial healing. Even MLK couldn’t envision a day when blacks and whites would be raping together!
I wonder if both rapists were white, if they would have worried about their lives being ruined.
Ma’lik Richmond ... if I had a son ....
“Malik Richmond ... if I had a son ....”
Then there’s his “sister,” LA-A! According to her “mother,” “the dash don’t be silent!” And then there’s the “twins,” Syphilis and Gonorea!
Just more evidence of the liberal war on women. Liberals love victims, as long as people aren’t victims of irresponsibility.
Ebony and Ivory, raping in perfect harmony...
We already know the answer to that. Look at the coverage of the Duke Lacrosse case. White defendants, and a black "victim" who turned out to be telling a pack of lies. The prosecutor lost his job and was disbarred. Check out the CNN coverage of that case before it unraveled.
racial progress humanists should embrace
I think half of their viewing audience is doctor’s offices leaving the tv’s on CNN all day every day.

3/17/13 - One way to report on the outcome of a rape trial is to discuss the legal ramifications of the decision or the effect the proceedings may have on the life of the victim. Another angle reporters can take is to publicly worry about the “promising future” of the convicted rapists, now less promising as a direct result of their choice to rape someone.
Reporters at CNN today chose the latter technique. General correspondent Poppy Harlow, speaking to anchor Candy Crowley, had this to say about the verdict:
Why is nearly no outlet bothering to ask whats wrong with masculinity in this country, with the arrogance of those defending a football team rather than a young woman who was violated? How could the media possibly be putting the emphasis on [the fact that] the girl drank? Did the boys not drink?
Wolfe also criticized Nightline for saying the Steubenville debacle is a cautionary tale for teenagers living in todays digital world. As if the problem was what the boys did online, not that they raped a 16-year-old girl and then bragged about it publicly, Wolfe said.
CNNs Harlow talked about how the charge against the two young men literally watched as their life fell apart. She didnt talk, though, about the traumatic effects that rape can have on young women.
Sponsors who advertise on CNN are part of this above problem! Boycott 'em!
The Onion got it, completely got it...
Is anyone else ticked their sentence was so light?
The Onion clip, what a hoot. Sarcasm of course.
The only consolation is that they will be registered sex offenders for the rest of their life. That should cause at least a little discomfort. Otherwise, yeah, completely too lenient.
If I were the father of the daughter, they would pray to stay in jail for as long as they could....because once they are let out, I promise they would never have a peaceful night of sleep ever again.
My understanding is that the sentence imposed was the maximum possible, given the charges. Maybe someone else has more information.
I haven’t been following this story - so can I assume the rapists are black or Arab - and that’s why CNN is crying for them? I should google it and find out - but can someone who knows share? Thanks.
That said, it's still surprised CNN would cry for rapists...it's soooooo obvious. Would CNN would do the same if the man who killed little Jessica Lunsford - after raping her, putting her in a garbage bag and burying her alive - was black or Arab? My guess is, 'yes!'... CNN deserves to go under.

CNN deserves to go under. The sooner the better...
Steubenville rape case verdict draws strong reactions, and media coverage comes under fire
The reason they support abortion so strongly is so that middle-aged men can have sex with kids and not face any repercussions or responsibility.
Is that pronounced La dash A?
I’m still waiting for a few football players named “Hard Drive” and “Down Load” and a cheerleader named “Propecia”.
“Is that pronounced La dash A?”
Yeah, now isn’t that special! We used to see a local comedian by the name of Bobby Slayton. He did a bit where he claimed that Black women got the names for their children by walking through the drug store.
Poppy is kinda dumb, but she is hot.
