Could explain why murdered ambassador was in attacked facility
TEL AVIV – Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., may have dropped a bombshell in an interview with Fox News in which he stated that murdered U.S Ambassador Christopher Stevens was in Benghazi to keep weapons caches from falling into the hands of terrorists.
Until now, no official explanation for Stevens deployment to Libya has acknowledged any such activity.
Stevens reportedly died from smoke inhalation as a result of the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks on the U.S. special mission and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya.
The official State Department probe into the Benghazi attacks stated Stevens was sent to Benghazi to “establish a U.S. presence in Libya.”
“The State Department had been absent from Libya since the Embassy in Tripoli suspended operations and evacuated its American personnel on February 25, 2011, amidst an escalating campaign by Muammar Qaddafi to suppress violently a popular uprising against his rule,” continued the report.
The report stated Stevens made the decision to travel to the Benghazi mission on Sept. 11 on his own, “independently of Washington, per standard practice.”
The report did not state the specific purpose of Stevens’ visit to the mission other than to later mention he held a meeting there with a Turkish diplomat.
Neither the State Department probe nor any other official government explanation previously mentioned securing weapons caches as part of Stevens’ mission in Libya.
However, in an interview Friday with Fox News, host Bret Baier asked Graham why Stevens was in the Benghazi mission despite the many known security threats to the facility.
Graham replied, “Because that’s where the action was regarding the rising Islamic extremists who were trying to get their hands on weapons that are flowing freely in Libya.”

Actually, he was there to meet with some person from Turkey. Why ..?? It’s never been clear. However, I hardly think the Turks would be helping us find weapons .. more likely, he was there to buy them for the Syrian rebels.

No kidding. This is hardly a new speculation. In fact the one thing they never tried to hide was that some CIA people were there to try to round up MANPADS that were looted from Gadaffi’s arsenals.

Agreed. I think Travis McGee's discussion from last fall about Obama being the only individual capable of granting cross border authority for U.S. forces to enter Libya was on the mark. Obama lied. Stevens and Navy Seals died.

Nail, meet hammer. If Grahamnesty is accepting this version of the “truth” from Foggy Bottom, he’s even dumber than I thought. All signs point to the late ambassador being involved in some sort of gun-running operation to the Syrian rebels, with Turkish diplomats helping facilitate the deal.
To my knowledge, only one of the victims of Benghazi has been publicly identified as being involved in efforts to round up arms left over from Qadhaffi. In the days after the consulate attack, one of the hero ex-SEALs was described as working on a CIA contract to gather up MANPADs left over from the former Libyan regime.
Securing weapons caches is not the work of an ambassador. On the other hand, it would require high-level diplomatic coordination to work the sort of gun-running operation that Stevens might have been involved in.
The truth may be starting to emerge. A hacker has started released e-mails from Hillary to her old pal Sidney Blumenthal, and we may get a completely different picture as more details are divulged.
This “arms round-up” story sounds like a desperate version to get ahead of what may emerge in the coming days.

Of course this was planned and directed by Obozo himself to furnish weapons to Al-Qaeda to use against Assad. More of Obozo’s Arab Spring operation. Supporting his Saudi master’s interests.

There had to be reasons why Stevens was in Libya months before Gaddafi fell. He knew what the risks were when he went to Benghazi. He wasn’t some country club ambassadorial appointee.
So you send an Ambassador to do the Military’s Job. Oh that’s right the military couldn’t be in Libya!! Might offend somebody!!!
Sounded more like 0bama was worried that his illegal war on Libya resulted in looted weapons caches that could’ve been pinned directly on his illegal actions in Libya.

That’s in the article. You have to read between the lines where it says he was helping Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey recruit jihadists to fight Assad in Syria.
