Schools on Minnesota’s American Indian reservations are already suffering from the across-the-board budget cuts of the federal sequester, taking a hit months before the rest of the country’s classrooms will feel the effects of reduced funding.
The White Earth Reservation could cut the school year short at its federally funded tribal school.
The Red Lake School District, where the high school was the site of a shooting that left seven people dead in 2005, has scaled back its security staff.
And school officials on reservations across the state have already slashed this year’s budgets in anticipation of sequester cuts, packing more students in classrooms, trimming class offerings and letting vacant jobs go unfilled.
“There’s a real sense of frustration for everybody,” Red Lake Superintendent Steve Wymore said.

Why doesn’t the Dept of Interior find all the royalty money from mineral extractions on Indian land that mysteriously can’t be found or accounted for?
Somehow, the FedGov still has billions in taxpayer money to spend to equip the Moslem Brotherhood in Egypt and Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, with sophisticated weapons technology, including fighter jets.
Closings and furloughs stateside are punitive measures taken against Americans to punish us for demanding fiscal responsibility.
Meanwhile, the FedGov continues to spend like drunken thieves and the 0bamas continue to enjoy their lavish and exorbitantly expensive vacations with taxpayer money.
Why continue to try to educate indigenous tribes who contribute nothing to the country? They are the earliest group of Takers and are happy to remain on the dole. The squalor of tribal life is the result.
It just depends on what the oboma administration thinks is more important. Lesbians trump Indians.

Just a thought but why doesn’t the tribe encourage members to open businesses - tax them - and then use those taxes to fund their schools. Wait - a vision just popped into my head - I see a casino in this tribe’s future.
It’s weird this isn’t happening off the reservations where taxpayers have to support their schools with local taxes.
Yeah, big St. Patty's day party at White House, then cancel the White House Easter egg hunt for children.
If we had a real Fourth Estate, somebody would ask the following of the Administration:
Can you explain the methodology that was used to determine which programs were cut and which were allowed to remain?
Were expenditures ranked by importance, or was some other criterion employed?
Which officials made the ultimate decisions?
Their money went to al Qaeda and Hamas,

Unfortunately most Americans have never been to some of the poorer American Indian reservations in Nevada-Arizona-New Mexico, the one east of Glacier National Park, and so many others where forever our Bureau Of Indian Affairs have squandered billions and for squat to show for it.
Many live worse than my dog in some of these.
But they go to those fancy casinos and think wow them injuns shore do live swell.
They should make a law that outlaws criminals bringing guns to schools.
Something about subsidizing pottery in Morocco? $10 million for crystal glasses for the State Dept. Something over $4 million for lesbian studies...

Not to mention billions of dollars for ammunition and armored vehicles for “civilian” agencies.
Of course, the flailing economy, more gov’t debt, foreclosures, command-and-control regulations, etc. have NO impact on how much money is available for such expenditures.
