An Ipswich principal is in hot water with some parents after he reportedly canceled the middle school's Honors Night.

David Fabrizio, principal of Ipswich Middle School, notified parents of his plan to eliminate the school's Honors Night last week.

"The Honors Night, which can be a great sense of pride for the recipients' families, can also be devastating to a child who has worked extremely hard in a difficult class but who, despite growth, has not been able to maintain a high grade point average," Fabrizio penned in his first letter to parents.

Didn’t H P Lovecraft write about weird happenings in Ipswich, but used a fake name for the city?

The parents should print up t shirts that say “Ipswich Middle School, celebrating mediocrity.”

From Doonesbury last year... Son cleaning out room finds his old trophy: “Most Improved Trier, Second Grade.” Son: I tied with the rest of the class.

John Updike wrote a novel called Couples while he was living in Ipswich. In the novel the characters live in Tarbox. I was once told by someone who lived in a town near Ipswich that the novel was supposedly based on things that had actually happened in Ipswich.

No kidding? As a parent I want my child to excel. I have 4 kids, none of them stellar students, but when my child falls in grades I have on several occassions met with student, teachers and principals, to give me the tools to help them along. This year my son has gone from a 2.556 gpa to 4.0 due to hard work on his part, his parents, and his teachers. Its a parents job to teach, teachers are there to help. I have to wonder does the school have all starters on the basketball team? Football team? Volleyball? etc. They best be consistant
