Abortionist: 'This Baby Is Big Enough to Walk Around With Me or Walk Me to the Bus Stop'

Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist now on trial in Philadelphia charged with seven counts of first-degree murder--he allegedly cut the spinal cords of late-term aborted babies who were born alive--apparently used to joke about the large size of some the infants he aborted and in one case, according to what a co-worker told the grand jury, said, “This baby is big enough to walk around with me or walk me to the bus stop.”

Gosnell, 72, who ran a multi-million dollar abortion business in West Philadelphia, was arrested on Jan. 19, 2011, and his trial started Monday, Mar. 18, 2013. The first-degree murder counts refer to seven late-term aborted babies who were born alive and then killed, their spinal cords cut with scissors.

Gosnell is also charged with the third-degree murder of a pregnant woman, Karnamaya Mongar, 41, who died after being given a pain killer at Gosnell’s office. He also faces several counts of conspiracy and violation of Pennsylvania’s law against post-24-week abortions.

In testimony on Monday, Adrienne Moton, who used to work for Gosnell at the Women’s Medical Society in West Philadelphia, said she recalled one baby – “Baby Boy A” – who was aborted in July 2008. Baby A was so large, Moton took a photo of the child with her cell phone before Gosnell took the baby out of the room.

"I just saw a big baby boy. He had that color, that color that a baby has," Moton said in court. "I just felt he could have had a chance. … He could have been born any day.”

In the grand jury report from Jan. 19, 2011, it states that Baby Boy A was born to a 17-year-old girl who went to Gosnell’s office with her aunt. Gosnell charged $2,500 for the abortion. An ultrasound conducted by Kareema Cross, who worked for Gosnell, “recorded a gestational age of 29.4 weeks,” according to the report, or about 7.5 months pregnant.

The 17-year-old girl was given the drug Cyotec to induce labor and was also “heavily sedated” over a period of 13 hours. “Eventually she gave birth to a large baby boy” and “Cross estimated that the baby was 18-19 inches long,” reads the report.

It continues: “After the baby was expelled, Cross noticed that he was breathing, though not for long. After about 10 to 20 seconds, while the mother was asleep, ‘the doctor just slit the neck,’ said Cross. Gosnell put the boy’s body in a shoebox. Cross described the baby as so big that his feet and arms hung out over the sides of the container. Cross said that she saw the baby move after his neck was cut, and after the doctor placed it in the shoebox. Gosnell told her, ‘it’s the baby’s reflexes. It’s not really moving.’”

According to the report, “the neonatologist testified that what Gosnell told his people was absolutely false. If a baby moves, it is alive. Equally troubling, it feels a ‘tremendous amount of pain’ when its spinal cord is severed. So, the fact that Baby Boy A continued to move after his spinal cord was cut with scissors means that he did not die instantly. Maybe the cord was not completely severed. In any case, his few moments of life were spent in excruciating pain.”

Other witnesses included workers Adrienne Moton and Ashley Baldwin who, along with Cross, “took photographs because they knew this was a baby that could and should have lived,” reads the grand jury report.

“The neonatologist viewed a photograph of Baby Boy A,” states the report. “Based on the baby’s size, hairline, muscle mass, subcutaneous tissue, well-developed scrotum, and other characteristics, the doctor opined that the boy was at least 32 weeks [8 months], if not more, in gestational age.”

The report further states, “Gosnell simply noted the baby boy’s size by joking, as he often did after delivering a large baby. According to Cross, the doctor said: ‘This baby is big enough to walk around with me or walk me to the bus stop.’”

At the trial in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Moton testified that she recalled Gosnell joking about the baby being so big he could have walked to the bus stop. Moton also testified that she personally cut – “snipped” – the spinal cords of at least 10 babies after they were delivered, as Gosnell reportedly had instructed.

The grand jury report states that the mother of Baby Boy A was released by Gosnell but she was in pain and got sick. A few days later she was taken to the Crozier-Chester Hospital and doctors “found that she had a severe infection and blood clots that had travelled to her lungs.” She stayed in the hospital for more than a week and eventually recovered, according to her aunt.

The grand jury report also states that Baby Boy A was not the only large child that Gosnell allegedly killed. Ashley Baldwin, who worked at the abortion office, “remembered Gosnell severing the neck of a baby that cried after being born,” reads the report.

After the baby had “precipitated,” it was placed in a basin on the counter. “Ashley heard the infant cry,” reads the report. “She saw the baby move while it was on the counter. She estimated the infant was at least 12 inches long. When Gosnell arrived at the clinic, she recalled, ‘he snipped the neck, and said there is nothing to worry about, and he suctioned it.’”

Gosnell has pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Jack McMahon, said the district attorney’s office was engaging in “a prosecutorial lynching” of his client. In the court room on Tuesday, McMahon told the jurors, “This is a targeted, elitist and racist prosecution of a doctor who’s done nothing but give [back] to the poor and the people of West Philadelphia.”

Gosnell put the boy’s body in a shoebox.

Just happened to have an old Shoe Box laying around in the operating room I suppose. Doesn’t every hospital keep old shoeboxes for their born dead fetus’s.

This guy is a murderer, but the mothers are co-conspirators.

Our tax dollars are helping to pay for these atrocities, our President voted for it when he was a State Senator.
Dr. Mengele would be proud.

Hey but that is what a feminist looks like and if you are against this then you are a participant in the war against women.

"We have a right to murder babies! Now vote for me! This is what a feminist looks like!"

This is what murder looks like...

“The mothers are co-conspirators”

The fathers are too.

So is the aunt, in this case.

They’ve all been duped.

Keep them from thinking and they’ll go along with this massive scam to get democrats votes.

They don’t get over it, though.

Depression on a wide scale, breakdown of the family, inability to bond with children. The guys don’t even know how or what they feel. Their parents give no guidance other than, “don’t get burdened with a child” to a 17 year old, they say it, as if he’s going to have self control with predatory girls around.

The ignorance is so widespread.

There is so much bizarre thinking and selective reasoning that goes on when the issue of abortion comes up. It seems that the size of the baby in the context of this trial has something to do with how well developed the child is and thus how much closer to being a ‘viable human being’ it is. Even for those who think that the abortion is just fine one has to wonder how they come to that position….… what about other metrics of human development? What does size have to do with it? My brother’s wife delivered 3 babies all well over 10 pounds… were they more valuable than my wife’s 6 ½ pound babies? What if we were to talk about our kids in public school that way and start showing favouritism to some kids just because they were bigger than their classmates? Well, maybe that goes on too but there is at least a quick outburst by somebody that such thinking is just outrageously wrong.

... I do confess to posting without editing.

This remark has no reference to you but I believe that the people on FR who consistently misspell "lose" using "loose" instead, do not know the proper spelling within context. So, it's not a matter of posting without editing. It's ignorance.

There’s no reasoning behind it, just rationalization. Nobody starts out thinking reasonably, and concludes that abortion is okay for a baby that is two pounds, or two months old, but not one that is eight pounds, or eight months old. The only way that you get to that position is by wanting to find some way to rationalize abortion in face of the fact that looking at an aborted eight month old, eight pound baby is disgusting and revolting, and undeniably wrong. So, their brain comes up with a semblance of reason that is just enough for them to suspend their rational thinking in favor of.

It’s pretty much the same way that fiction writers have to make unbelievable things just believable enough so that the skeptical audience suspends its disbelief. If the audience didn’t want to believe the fantastic thing, their reason would make them scoff, but since they are willing participants in the fiction, wanting to enjoy it, then they accept the semblance of believability, just to quiet their rational objections. By the same process, our brains can wallpaper over our objections to any evil thing that we want to commit. I’d say it’s man’s specialty.

There is no doubt a special place in Hell for ANYONE (Obama included) that advocates, supports or votes for (more than once, in Obama’s case) murdering innocent lives in the womb....or out of the womb (See: Obama’s sole Democrat vote against giving medical treatment or help to live, fully formed human infants in botched abortions).

I think they are just using the large size to prove minimum gestational age. If you read the article the expert also cited muscle mass, hairline, and scrotum as proof. I don’t think its ‘sizeism’.

Another wonderful story about my hometown.

I was discussing this story with my mother a couple days ago. I told her that I hope this evil scumbag will constantly have his spine severed throughout eternity in hell.

This piece of crap actually bragged about the size of the babies.

And these RINOS tell me I need to moderate my pro life stance.

Or that your stance on abortion should be based on a majority “vote” of fellow Republicans.

Sure but size is quite limited in proving minimum gestational age..... not quite as limited as outside the womb but still quite arbitrary. And certainly the other ‘proofs’ are quite limited as well.... especially since one can't really get a good look at these other aspects until the baby is outside of the womb and dead.

According to the report, “the neonatologist testified that what Gosnell told his people was absolutely false. If a baby moves, it is alive. Equally troubling, it feels a ‘tremendous amount of pain’ when its spinal cord is severed.

On that criterion alone, abortion should not be allowed after a few weeks. I was able to feel my second one moving around at 3.5 months, but he certainly was moving before then.

The nervous system begins to form at around 3 weeks after fertilization. It is reasonable to think that the baby starts to feel--maybe not as acutely as later on--around that time.

Of course, if it were up to me, all women using abortion for birth control would be given full information before, and be shown the dead child after. That would go a long way towards reducing repeat abortions (more 2nd, 3rd, and more abortions take place than 1st abortions).

In the grand jury report from Jan. 19, 2011, it states that Baby Boy A was born to a 17-year-old girl who went to Gosnell’s office with her aunt. Gosnell charged $2,500 for the abortion.

A question for those who oppose parental notification laws. Where would a young teenage girl get the money to pay for her abortion? From an adult male who impregnated her in the first place?

Its a court case. To the layman (like me) size is a very relateable metric.

They aren’t teaching medical students - they’re trying to win a case.

And let me tell you, hearing that a baby s too big for his arms and legs to fit in a shoebox paints a very vivid mental picture for me.

I think the prosecutors are doing a good job. Their goal is convicting this monster. Nothing else matters.

I agree...not only should women seeking abortion be SHOWN one as it happens but they should HAVE to take their murdered CHILD for humane services. Its not a tumor or a tonsil to be flushed or trashed. It has a FACE. Human beings are pregnant with HUMAN BEINGS. Its all too sanitized for the womans “feelings”-and I`m saying this as a woman. If you can see what happens and what you will be killing and STILL want to do it,you are a monster and have no business reproducing at all. OWN UP to what abortion is...say “ I made it and I want to KILL my baby” then take what you made and killed and pay to bury it at least as decently as you would a pet. Abortionists and murderous `mothers` should be sterilized and prosecuted...then rot in hell forever.

I quite agree.

I found some website where abortionists and their support staff expressed various sentiments about their bloody vocation. One abortionist actually said, “Of course, the fetus feels pain. But I would never tell that to one of my patients, because that would just complicate an already difficult decision.”

Seriously? Probably the largest factor in her decision is the belief that the fetus is nothing but a formless mass of cells—which the abortionist or his sales staff probably told her in order to increase the odds that she would buy their service. Abortionists don’t help women by withholding information.

I remember in biology class at college, back in the 1980s, we watched a film on fetal development. I have no idea how they film fetuses in the womb (it’s amazing), but the film showed them at various stages while the narrator explained the fetus’ capabilities at each stage. There was a girl in class who became very morose during the film. I can only surmise that she had a previous session with an abortionist who had withheld any information from her—it doesn’t matter what rationale is given, the only real reason is because abortion is extremely lucrative. What a shame that the abortionist did not give her accurate information—it’s very possible that her child would still be alive, and that girl would not have been presented with the reality of what she did in such a manner.

Abortionists can lie to increase the number of clients who use their services. But they can’t prevent women from learning the truth later on. Most women know the truth anyway, even if they won’t consciously acknowledge it.
