Vulnerable senators face lose-lose scenario on assault weapon vote
The Hill ^ | March 21, 2013 | Alexander Bolton

The Senate’s upcoming vote on the assault weapons ban is going to put vulnerable Democrats in a difficult spot.

Democrats facing tough reelection races will either attract the ire of the National Rifle Association or prominent gun control activists such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I). A vote against the ban could spark primary challenges that could weaken Democrats in the general election.

These guys don’t get the notion that if their constituents don’t like their positions on certain issues that their positions could be wrong.

No, if you’re a leftist and the masses disagree with you,
that just affirms your superiority to the masses.

Oh dear! Does this mean that those who oppose freedom may find the public’s reaction to their positions inconvenient?

Gee, should we violate the Constitution or not? Decisions, decisions! What to do?

Just for fun.

Democrat David Nathan got his panties in a twist over the open carry event at the Michigan state capitol yesterday and now he’s getting slapped around in the comments section. (he wants to know why the police weren’t there to protect him from the dangerous guns.)

Oh, how they miss all the moderate republicans that they used to have so that democrats wouldn’t have to vote for this stuff (yet still get the legislation passed).

Very cool. And here I was thinking that Harry wouldn’t put them in this position to force a recorded vote on this amendment and that DiFi’s hysterics were just kabuki theatre.

Harry Reid sure didn’t want to make these “vulnerable” senators have to vote so that their voters could make an informed decision.

Can’t have that. That’s not politics. Have to obfuscate and not have the voters decide whether you represent them or not.

Could McConnell offer it as an ammendment?

I don’t think Reid is a true believer. He’s happy to pass anything, just to look at his law and say, “I did that - I have power over the little people!” He disgusts me - not anywhere near as much as true believers like Pelosi and Obama who are genuinely evil, but I still find Reid repulsive.

This is one fault I have with the NRA. They support Dems who are so wobbly they could throw the vote at any time. IMO, there are NO moderate Dems anymore. The Blue Dogs are all gone, yet the NRA still supports them. They certainly don’t support other conservative ideas, but the NRA is strictly for gun issues. I say they must figure out that the only people that will sell the NRA down the river is Dems and a small cadre of Repubs. If the Dems are forced into this vote, there will be defectors.

There used to be Democrats that were reliable supporters of the Constitution for the Second Amendment. They are almost unheard of now...

But the NRA wants to save this species from extinction.

Of course he could. And would immediately be branded a turncoat by a heck of a lot of Conservatives who wouldn’t believe he was just doing it to force red state Dems to vote on the matter.
