Former police Chief Harper indicted on five counts(Pittsburgh Affirmative Action Hire)

A federal grand jury Friday indicted ousted Pittsburgh police Chief Nate Harper for tax violations.

Prosecutors charged Harper, 60, of Stanton Heights with four counts of “tax problems” and one count of conspiracy. He is scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Mitchell. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Cessar appeared before the judge with the indictment and the grand jury foreman.

The indictment comes two months after the Tribune-Review reported the grand jury's work and one month after Mayor Luke Ravenstahl forced Harper to resign his post. Harper led the department since 2006.

The grand jury was investigating Harper's involvement with Arthur J. Bedway, 63, of Robinson, an owner of Carnegie-based Victory Security who set up a shell company, Alpha Outfitters, to win a contract to install computers in police vehicles. Bedway and Harper were friends.

Bedway and prosecutors are discussing a plea deal on a charge of defrauding the government, court records show. Victory Security once employed Harper's wife, Cynthia, a former police officer.

Mayor Lukie should be next, but he is probably better connected.

Unless the OP can provide some evidence of ‘AFFIRMATIVE ACTION”
I will just mark this down as yet another political official (the uniform is a prop foe many if not most chiefs)

The entire administration is so deep it may not be able to stop the bleeding. The boy mayor may not make it through the year.

Of course the corruption is SOP for Pittsburgh. Instead of being replaced by republicans...conservatives don’t stand a chance...another wing of ratz will move in and the corruption will continue.

The point is this kind of cookie jar crap is typical day-to-day business in any Democrat run city in America. Generally, unless it gets WAY out of hand (think Detroit), nobody ever gets indicted, much less goes to jail.

I wonder why they are singling out Harper or who they think they can get him to give up in return for a reduced sentance.

Everybody is betting that it is the Boy Mayor. However, I just don't think Luke boy is that important.

Lukie was commenting on the police the other day and saying that one officer (who knocked the drunk down) should be fired.

“So should you!” I said.

Baby Lukie should be indicted, also. And hopefully the two fags on Mt Washington that actually run this city.

So AF-ACTION is far less important than base line corruption.

I Do not ascribe to race what simple venality is just as likely.

Nor do I. But Af-Action hiring provides a better cover to simple venality. Look no further than the white hut if you want proof and ask yourself if any white guy could get away with what BO and even Eric Holder do routinely.

Pure speculation on my part, but leaning this hard on Golden Boy Harper for what appears to be on the surface as your basic cookie-jar crap means something much bigger is underneath. I just wonder what it is . . .

With all due respect, racial or even semi racial/cultural statements like white “hut” do not aid our cause, and I find them quite objectionable.

I do not and will not use a “loaded” racial/cultural phase as an alternative to a solid argument.

Off hand I can’t remember their names. Two gay guys on Mt Washington who made their cash in the dot com bubble. They’re extremely influential in city politics & anytime a Democrat party official visits Pittsburgh, they stay with these two.

I’m in my car so I can’t get you more info right now. Sorry.

They look to me like "satisfactory excuse" charges for dumping this guy. You can only imagine what kind of mischief he REALLY got into.

Tough to say for sure. If a "satisfactory excuse" was all they were looking for, I don't think the FBI would be involved. We'll just have to see how it plays out.

It is going to be a very interesting year in Pittsbugh politics. Not that they will ever elect a Republican major. The chances of that ever happening are only slightly greater than it happening in Detroit.
