House Dem: New DHS report on Fast and Furious 'troubling'

The top House Democrat on homeland security criticized a division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Friday for its role in the failed gun tracking operation, Fast and Furious, after a new report detailed the agency’s involvement.

At the urging of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), officials with ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations unit did not pursue leads on potential weapons smugglers, according to the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) inspector general report released on Friday.

The 84-page report also found that senior leaders in ICE’s investigative Arizona division failed to read the reports from agents in the field that identified the “flawed methodology” in the “Fast and Furious” operation, according to the report

Ranking Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee Bennie Thompson (Miss.) said the report was “troubling.”

“The OIG’s conclusions about the lack of support or oversight by ICE leadership in Arizona of the ICE special agent involved in the operation are very troubling, as is the failure of ICE leadership in Arizona to report serious problems with the operation to ICE headquarters,” said Thompson in a statement.

Operation Fast and Furious was run by the ATF and the U.S. Attorney’s office with assistance from other agencies, such as ICE, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). It oversaw the sale of about 2,000 guns in the Southwest region to known and suspected criminals who were acting as straw purchasers for Mexican drug cartels.

Two of the weapons sold during the operation were later found at the scene where Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed. The bullets Terry was shot with were too damaged to match them to a particular weapon through ballistics, according to federal officials.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) spent 18 months investigating the role of Justice Department leadership in approving Fast and Furious’s operational tactics. A DOJ inspector general report found that neither President Obama nor Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the flawed operation as it was being carried out.

The new IG report details the involvement of ICE and CBP, which are housed within DHS.

According to the report, DHS as a whole had “minimal involvement” in the operation.

If Holder didn't know about it he should have and I believe he did.

From the most “transparent” government is the “history” of the world. The Benghazi coverup and the Fast and Furious coverup. Hey America! How’s that “hope and change” workin’ for you now?

“If Holder didn’t know about it he should have and I believe he did”

Holder lied and lots of people died. “What’s the difference?” when the country’s top law maker undermines the law of the land? ‘Like who’s got the balls to stop him?

Meanwhile, no one has taken anything even remotely resembling action, and the former free press is still silent. Life in post-constitutional America takes some getting used to.

A DOJ inspector general report found that neither President Obama nor Attorney General Eric Holder knew about the flawed operation as it was being carried out.

The IG's report concluded no such thing.

Instead, it stated they could find no evidence of the AG or POTUS being involved "because we were denied full access to the files" -- the very files that are under subpoena to the House Oversight Committee and are now subject to a court decision.

The HSI, FBI, ICE, ATF, DEA were all involved up to their eyeballs, from Arizona to Florida.

But somehow it had nothing to do with Washington DC at DHS or DOJ.

Right.

Thanks, that sounds like what really happened.

Holder and Obama are birds of a feather, both liars and can cover their tracks.

FBI Criminal Informant Complicit in Brian Terry’s Death (PJM Exclusive)

The rip crew was in Peck Canyon that evening with the intention of stealing money and drugs from a specific shipment of which they had prior knowledge.

(snip)

The rip crew knew to be in Peck Canyon that December evening because a CI working for the FBI found out about a smuggling run — from the FBI.

(snip)

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) — through its own CIs and communications intercepts — was also aware of the planned assault.

Neither the DEA nor FBI warned Border Patrol about the expected criminal activity.

(snip)

The federal government will still not reveal if one of the two WASR-10 AK-pattern semi-automatic rifles located near the scene — provided to the Sinaloa cartel via Operation Fast and Furious — was the weapon that put a bullet through Brian Terry’s heart. The existence of a third recovered gun, an SKS carbine, has been disputed by the FBI despite the fact it had been talked about openly in the beginning of the investigation among federal agents.

Multiple sources tell PJM that this third weapon “disappeared” because it was the weapon carried by the FBI CI who ran the rip crew. When it was recovered near the scene of the murder and subsequently traced by the ATF, it traced back to the FBI CI via the gun shop in Texas where it was purchased.

Brian Terry’s murder was entirely preventable. The incompetence of the DEA and FBI let his Border Patrol unit walk into an ambush. After the ambush, it appears the FBI tampered with evidence to cover up that one of their informants was involved with the murder of a federal agent.

I don't believe Fast & Furious is a dead letter, either.

It's just that Issa's committee can't proceed further until the federal court issues a decision on their subpoena and Holder's wierd claim of Executive Privilege (weird since the President is supposedly not involved).

I've no idea when a decision is due, but things should rapidly heat up once it comes down.

I'd completely forgotten about the Executive Privilege claim, I guess that's what happens when these fiascoes are drawn out forever.

Hopefully the court will rule against it and it'll heat up like the bowels of hell, the claim is ridiculous.

Both Nero.and Holder knew about it because it was
Their plan to subvert the Second Amendment with pressure from
The Mexican Government which was going as planned until
Border Agents were killed and several Agents Contacted
Congessmen about ATF sold guns ending up being involved.

Anyone Remember before SHTF Nero was asked about gun control
and he said they were working on some things under the Radar?

And there are people who believe it too, not many though.

Obama and Holder knew about it BEFORE it was being
carried out...

“I’ve no idea when a decision is due, but things should rapidly heat up once it comes down.”

Once that happens be prepared for a real serious “wag the dog” scenario. The Dems perfect this perfectly.
