We're All CVS Employees Now
American Thinker ^ | 3/23/2013 | Tara Servatius

CVS employees, and the rest of America, had better get used to turning over personal health information like their glucose levels and body mass index to their insurers - and to the federal government.

Starting in 2014, per the dictates of the federal government, your doctor must record your body mass index (BMI), which measures whether you are overweight, each time he or she treats you and turn it over to the government via your electronic health record, which every patient is required to have.  Your BMI will then be tracked by the Health and Human Services Department, the agency rolling out ObamaCare, and a bevy of other state and federal agencies.

Shock and anger ensued this week as CVS employees learned that if they didn't turn over that information to their insurers, they'd be fined.  But CVS is merely rolling out what may become one of the most controversial aspects of ObamaCare a little ahead of schedule.

One needs only to look to Europe to see how our political elites will use ObamaCare, and the BMI weight measure they are so determined to record for each of us, to intrude into and regulate not just our health care, but our lives.

In the U.K., overweight patients or those who smoke are branded "undeserving" and denied treatments like cataract surgery (without which they could eventually go blind) and knee and hip surgery, leaving some who don't qualify for the surgery in agonizing pain.  Some of the U.K.'s "trusts," which regulate the national health care system for various zones of the country, go farther, denying all operations to those who don't meet the government's weight dictates except for lifesaving surgery on their hearts, brains or to remove cancer.

Here's a dollar. Consider it overcompensation for your share of my 'added costs'.

Depends on the size of your claims pool. For most of us, with employer-sponsored benefits, it's a hell of a lot more than a dollar.

Yeah, in the interest of fairness they should also require the employees to disclose any high risk sexual activity they engage in. Don't want to pay for any health related problems from smoking or obesity? Hey, maybe I don't like paying for anyone else's health problems they got from whoring around.

Cry me a river. Did they lose weight or quit smoking ? I sure as hell don’t want to subsidize the added medical charges incurred by the people not taking care of themselves.

asshat, the point being that they are being forced to pay for a product and then being denied use of what they paid for.

In the real world that's call THEFT.

In the People's Republik of Obama that's called a common sense solution.

we'll see how long that lasts when it turns out the hardest hit are the low income who vote democrat

It’s amazing how much of our behavior - especially the bad kind (or what God calls SIN) - we like to excuse with memes like “we were born with it” and “it’s all genetics” - truth is - it’s all a choice - we just don’t want to take responsibility for the results of said bad behavior - we prefer to play it easy and play the victim instead. Sad.

And it is true that exercising won’t completely counter the effects of the obesity genes, it will dramatically reduce their impact. If these individuals denied care were priced out of health insurance or paying out of pocket I guarantee the intractable health effects spilling over into society would virtually disappear overnight.

I don’t know that for sure. I think Obamacare will be hurting everybody at some point. I do agree some will get waivers and special vouchers along with better health care than others. Most of us will get the worse health care and treatment as it stands to all be changed.

I say, Americans need to figure out a way to starve out the insurance providers.

Idea! Most Americans renew their insurance around the first of the year through their employer.

Perhaps a mass “Drop coverage” effort for a period of time for those who are able to withstand the sacrifice. Maybe those who cannot can join in dropping certain coverages.

Pull back on health coverage where it makes sense, drop coverages or pull back on auto, home, life, disability.

Any investment one may have through an insurance co. or affiliated co......find an alternative. Just brainstorming. I realize, getting hundreds of thousands of folks to do the same thing at the same time is a stretch.

We do need to starve these b@stards. It's all about the dollar when you get down to brass tacks anyhow.

Hmmm recording BMI. Now why would they do that unless they are going to use it against you for coverage or force you to go on a diet to comply with their “program”. I think it’s clear where this is headed. I always said if they outlawed chocolate there would be more of a public reaction and upisingthan any other political issue...lol

> I had a voluntary health screening.. They said my BMI was high.. Here is the thing, I workout.. Never mind if I went by the BMI standard, I would be skinny as a rail.. That is why I don’t like the BMI..

Same here. I do cross fit and lift weights and I’ve never fit into those height / weight charts which I don’t think take into account the additional muscle mass of athletic people. They seem to be based on the 50’s version of people that didn’t exercise the same way.

What evidence have you ever seen that a member a democrat constituency group ever left the party after getting jammed up by the politicians they elect? Blacks are getting creamed. Look at what is going on in Chicago, or Detroit, or Atlanta. They don't care. Democrat voters will always do what their betters tell them to do.

In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird.
Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

Why not throw drug trusting in there as well?

Ok, so the gov says it doesn’t want to pay for those of us who don’t take care of ourselves, what about those, like drug addicts, who actively are knowingly harming their health?

Just like obese and smokers, why not apply the standard to meth, crack, cocaine and even pot? Yes pot! You want health care? Piss in the jar.

Hippies want free health care, well lets show them that even their own socialistic programs dictate that nothing is free.

I don't disagree with any of what you are saying.

But that doesn't matter, the point is that a product is being paid for and the service is not being provided.

Compound that fact with the fact that the government is the 'provider.'

Compound those two facts by the fact that the 'provider' is REQUIRING you to purchase the service.

The private system at least made one pay for the cost of their lifestyle choices.

ObamaCare, the next Holocaust, IMO, including the Democrat’s Death Panels. How does that differ from SS agents picking who went to Labor Camps and who went to the Gas Chambers? I’m waiting for OBayMe, Pelosi and Reid’s answers. How about you?
