“Spotted Owl Of The Range” Threatens To Block Obama’s Nominee To Lead Interior Dept.
The Colorado Observer. ^ | March 22, 2013 | Audrey Hudson

Posted on 03/23/2013 9:54:48 PM PDT by george76

Sally Jewell on Thursday breezed through a committee vote to lead the Interior Department but the agency’s proposal to list the sage grouse as an endangered species threatens to block her nomination from reaching the full Senate.

...

some Republican lawmakers were not satisfied with Jewell’s responses to written and oral questions about her past association with the National Park Association’s lawsuits against the government and future plans to list the sage grouse as an endangered species.

Sen. James Risch (R-Idaho) threatened to put a hold on Jewell’s nomination before it goes to a floor vote unless the agency commits to using science, instead of the fear of a lawsuit, in making a final determination on the sage grouse listing.

“Those who are anxious to get grazing off of public land have used the sage grouse as a tool and a vehicle to do that,” Risch said. “Indeed, some have said they will make the sage grouse the spotted owl of the range.”

“It’s really unfortunate that it takes a nomination like this in this type of a process in order to get urgency out of a federal agency. As we all know, urgency is not the hallmark of the federal government,” Risch said.

The proposal to list the grouse as endangered is part of a lawsuit settlement the Obama administration struck with environmental groups.

Western lawmakers are warning that the action would have devastating effects, particularly in Colorado where millions of acres would be blocked from producing oil, gas and for other uses.

Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) said the Interior Department and local officials need to sit back down at the negotiating table to find a compromise “before a bird like that gets listed.”

The enviro-nazis will go to any length to close down public lands for human use and in many western area that will mean some private lands will basically be shut down also.

Thanks for the data on the Gunnison and Greater sage-grouse, Fly. Sounds like this “species hood” for the Gunnison could well have been a planned tactic for the enviros to get their foot in the door. That may sound a little far out but I wouldn't put anything past these nutjobs.

If they should get both listed under the ESA it will completely change most all the western states and your term “devastating” could be an under statement.

These enviro-nazi nutjobs are nothing but evil!

“It's starting.”

It's started in the 70s with listing of increased penalties for the taking of Bald Eagles - endangered by the unfounded assumption the DDT usage was causing them harm. This despite huge base populations in the West and Alaska. It was not uncommon to hear someone say that there aren't any, no matter that those casual observations were made from living rooms and from within assorted tall city buildings

Having had success with know-nothing public and the finest lawyers which could be purchased with Federal funds, they continued with the Spotted Owl to drive loggers out of the most productive woods, and then went on to use the Marbled Muirlette to drive non-indian drift nets off the water.

Like the Balds Eagle, the Spotted Owl, and the Marbled Muirlett, their claims were based on selective data and outright falsities. And now they are coming for the Grouse.

The effects on Natural Resource Harvesters in the West was devastating - as it was meant to be ... No one listened to us at the time, now it is your turn.

Hey, I'll be heading out for my full-on field season very soon so I will be incommunicado for most of Spring until July. But I'll check FR every chance I get with my smartphone, so keep those pings coming and I'll do the same.

Smartphone! Ha! I can use one now. I'm evolving......! Lol!

Great post. I'm with ya all the way, and have been for a very long time.

Just so you know, when I said "It's starting" I meant with the sage-grouse and the singular battles occurring in the Interior West.

The environazi movement is like terminal cancer. It's spreading everywhere.

The eco-facists are going hard on this.

Even using armed DHS agents for back up.

They are on a large campaign to shut down all domestic energy production.

But killing thousands of endangered Eagles and other birds by wind mills is ok.

The enviro-facists are trying to do the same thing down here in southeast NM and West Texas with listing the lesser prairie chicken as endangered. This will not only affect ranchers but also the oil and gas industry.

Congressman Steve Pearce is taking the lead in fighting this with the DOI’s F&WS. He succeeded in preventing the endangered species listing of the desert sagebrush lizard by organizing conservation areas with the oil companies who ponied up big bucks in support of these. The F&WS backed off (for now) but the same Tucson enviro-Nazis who sued to prevent logging/timber thinning in spotted owl areas (i.e. everywhere - and we know how that worked out - terrible large forest fires destroying huge areas of AZ/NM the past couple of years) are suing to force the lizard listing.

A good summary of how we stopped the lizard listing and what needs to be done to stop the chicken listing:

The enviro-Nazis will try any fish, bird, worm ... trick to stop farming, ranching, fishing, logging, mining ...

Thanks for the article.

If anyone wants to be on or off the Agenda 21 ping list, please notify me by Freepmail. It is a relatively low volume list in which we have been exploring the UN Agenda21 and related topics. We have collected our studies with threads, links, and discussions on the Agenda 21 thread which can be found here:

Post 128 of the Action Thread is a summary of the history of Agenda 21, “what they are doing”, “what to do about it” and a good bibliography for further reading.

“Last year, I drove from Deeth, NV to Jarbidge. Over the years (everywhere in NV), but especially in that area especially between that road and the Mary’s River, I have seen ridiculous quantities of sage chickens. “

Last time regarding Jarbidge it was the ‘endangered’ bull trout!

Aye, I was fortunate enough to attend that event. There was a weak group of protestors that were mostly ignored. Was fun. They even sold nice tee-shirts that said “tree huggers suck”

You were there?? With a group? You evidently weren't a freeper at that time or you'd have been at our campsite!

Sorry I missed meeting you. All our work from then is wiped from FR, sad to say.

I think I was a freeper then, though I had lurked for a couple of years before I signed up. I wasn't there with a group (per se). Several friends and I do a yearly trip where we drive in old landcruisers from the Utah border to the California border without touching pavement (other than to cross the 3 highways). We timed and modified that trip to go to Jarbidge on that day. Here is a Jarbidge picture, (though it was before I finished rebuilding the cruiser, and I'm alot thinner now, lol)...

I guess you could say they are endangered if they happen to be on a road you’re driving on.

We had this problem in the Alabama river with the mythical Alabama sturgeon. Only two have ever been caught and they were both Mississippi sturgeon. Feds said there COULD be an Alabama sturgeon but finally gave up.

Funny—Americans need the product of that grazing to be healthy, also !.
