Gun deaths are shaped by race in America. Whites are far more likely to shoot themselves, and African Americans are far more likely to be shot by someone else.
The statistical difference is dramatic, according to a Washington Post analysis of data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A white person is five times as likely to commit suicide with a gun as to be shot with a gun; for each African American who uses a gun to commit suicide, five are killed by other people with guns.
Where a person lives matters, too. Gun deaths in urban areas are much more likely to be homicides, while suicide is far and away the dominant form of gun death in rural areas. States with the most guns per capita, such as Montana and Wyoming, have the highest suicide rates; states with low gun ownership rates, such as Massachusetts and New York, have far fewer suicides per capita.
Suicides and homicides are highly charged human dramas. Both acts shatter families, friends and sometimes communities. But the reactions are as different as black and white, and those differences shape the nation’s divided attitudes toward gun control.
For instance, African Americans tend to be stronger backers of tough gun controls than whites. A Washington Post-ABC News poll this month found that about three-quarters of blacks support stronger controls, compared with about half of whites. The poll also found that two-thirds of city dwellers support stronger gun controls, while only about a third of rural residents back them.

Between 1976-2005 per DOJ statistics, blacks represented 12% of the total US population yet accounted for 52.2% of all homicides.
That is more than “shaped”. That is a national epidemic.

I’m having a real hard time believing any of that carp. Sounds like made-up stats, to fit their ‘gun-grabber agenda’, once again. Blech.
I wonder if there are any stats for other continents, not guns but clubs, machetes etc.

What were the statistics for blacks that shot people other than themselves though? Why isn’t that mentioned?...(rhetorical question)

Interesting, but missing a key figure. What are the suicide and homocide rates rates for both groups.
From the information presented so far the suicide rates could be the same for black and white populations. Which would leave you with very UN-PC conclusion.

No, I meant single mother. I don’t think most boys being raised with there father are damaged to the same extent that they are by being raised by a single mother.

It is racism to consider any facts that cast blacks in a bad light or that doesn’t advance the liberal (er, “progressive”) agenda.
Well aren’t these statistics just special. Let me see if I can interpret them correctly. This means that if we take all guns away from all blacks and leave all the guns with all whites, the crime rate goes down significantly and dramatically. Since suicide is not a crime and since the rate of blacks killing blacks is like 98.5% (just made that up like the Post does) then the crime rate should drop by 97.6%. Amazing what you can do with statistics!
