Senate votes 53-46 to stop US from joining UN Arms Trade Treaty

In the last batch of amendment votes to the budget, the Senate voted on several foreign policy proposals.

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) introduced an amendment that would prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty in order to uphold the Second Amendment. His amendment passed on a 53-46 vote.

Republicans have been critical of President Obama’s decision to consider the treaty, although Obama has said he would not vote for anything that would violate the Second Amendment.

The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty would regulate international arms sales. Negotiations end on March 28.

“We’re negotiating a treaty that cedes our authority to have trade agreements with our allies in terms of trading arms,” Inhofe said. “This is probably the last time this year that you’ll be able to vote for your Second Amendment rights.”

o glad I live in a conservative state. Mark Begich Dem Ak voted with honor, thank you Begich. I now almost forgive you for photo radar back in the 90s.
********************************************************************
I hope the forgiveness doesn’t rise to the level of voting for him when he runs for reelection. His presence in the Senate contributes to Harry Reid and the liberal democrats dominating the US Senate and all the additional destruction of the American Republic which follows.

As a poster up thread said, this does provide “cover” for some Democrat Senators who are up for reelection in Red states in upcoming elections. And as another poster said, the vote is largely meaningless since it’s merely part of a budget bill that they KNOW is going nowhere. DO NOT BE DECEIVED!

Been on FR since 1996, Been to Nick Begich's house (marks brother), do you remember photo radar in Anch around 1997, got Mark kicked outta politics for a few years; if he'd been a Repub, he'd had a trip to the big house. I know Mark all too well, I also know how crooked my Repubs also are.

In all honesty, Mark is unelectable in 2014, Alaskans think he isn't half a Donny Young and that's what they judge politicals by; they want somebody that shakes the tree for their votes. I'm still glad Mark is forced to vote like a repub outta his complete fear about 2014. Wish I believed he was thought that way inside his head.

Wish Nick Begich would run, now he really is a forward thinker and halfway conservative; but he is too interested in making the bucks, being successful and such; which ain't all that wrong anyway.

We want the names of the 46 who do not believe in the Bill of Rights.

There are more than that - some of these slugs are only protecting their electability (both Dim and RINO).

These are the Judas of the Senate.

They will one day be accountable.

I do hope Begich is “unelectable” and is defeated when he runs for reelection next year. I also know that much of the Republican establishment in Alaska has been corrupt (such as the former governor Murkowski & his crew). And standing up to that corruption is one of the reasons (among many) that I admire Sarah Palin so much.

I did not know that Begich was an early promoter of “speed cameras”. That’s another reason to dislike him. Although Alaskans had the good sense to ban them, here in the People’s Republic of Maryland, they are a significant cash cow for the State and municipalities such as Baltimore. Folks here hate them but turn right around and reelect the Democrats who install them.

Well, that is nice and all, buttt....

This was an amendment tacked onto a bill that will not pass...so to count it a win is whistling past the graveyard.

Mark Begich was on city council in Anch back in the early/mid 90's. He was forever looking for revenue sources, got the bright idear with photo radar cameras to catch people sliding through red lights in town. The company that made the cams was from Arizona and they had it all figured out that city would make big bucks with their red light cameras in tickets mailed out to everybody. Mark bit hard and got the cam thing going. Of course the Arizona company had a disclaimer of sorts where if for any reason they had to pull their cameras out, they would be paid this huge penalty by the city, ha ha; what a scam Mark fell for. But you know, those left wingers, all they see if $$$$$ in revenue. So anyway, people all over Anch started getting 10-20 tickets in the mail; boy did they get hot. Then somebody started shooting the cams out with a 10-22. It caught on big time. I remember stopping at a light in early morn while it was still dark and seeing 2-3 cars shooting at cams out their windows; became the local patriotic pass time in Anch that winter, no joke. It got so bad that the Arizona company pulled all their cameras, they couldn't keep them in working order and of course they come after their penalty bucks with Mark Begich crawling under rocks for cover, it was hilarious. All Mark's council buddies forgot his friendship and he was booted out of Anch politics pretty quick. NO joke, I was surprised he even run again years later. He wouldn't have been elected if Uncle Teddy hadn't had his problems. After Mark got booted, the state passed a law against such cams ever again in Alaska. True story.

Every time I call Begich's office, I remind them it will be worse than photo radar if he votes the wrong way and his staff always tells me photo radar was the only mistake ever made in his entire life on this earth, ha ha. Anyway, that's the story on photo radar. Actually, sometimes I prefer Mark over LIsa; only one I really trust is Donny Young; you know what ya got with Don Young; an old bush guy at heart and that's why everybody keeps voting him back in. Don't have to even think about Donny Young voting for any kind of gun control.
