Paul said that he doesn’t support people using marijuana but said he also doesn’t necessarily support putting them in jail for extended periods of time.

He's falling for the fantasy that people are in jail for the drug use when the reality is that they end up in jail over other crimes with drugs being an associated crime.

there’s a guy in federal jail for 40 years due to drug possession along with a ‘dangerous weapon’ (he had a gun on him when busted).

That is ridiculous.

Please don’t resort to logic and truth with such an emotional issue! /sarc

Just the kind of psycho-babble I’d expect from the son of Ron Paul!

Perhaps a falicy many voters fall for as well. Maybe we should let this and all future reference pass?

In any-event the Federal government has no business making or enforcing laws against drugs except when those drugs are in the act of crossing an international or State line.

Even then it should be our States that do the bulk of the enforcing. The Federal constitution contains no authorization for such domestic laws.

Correct... it is the associated crimes of drug use that get people locked up

Yet have I heard of anyone get arrested for flunking an employer drug test. Even the military sends a serviceman/ woman to rehab instead of jail

And, the way Rand has been going liberal in recent times, he would give Obama amnesty....

I guess that would depend if you felt that having an oz of pot, deserves jail time.
I do know people who have gone to jail over this issue, now was it long, no, always less than two months and most just got probation.

Yeah -- related crimes like buying them, selling them, or possessing them. I suppose you're right, though, that simply using them won't get them a sentence.

Paul makes more sense.

Thank you.

It turns out that criminals like to do drugs - at least as much as the next person - maybe even more. So guess what - there are a lot of drug users in prison. But no, Joe Citizen is not rotting away in prison because he chose to fire up a joint one day.
