The fact that Mao was quoted is not nearly as bad as the fact that they BOTCHED THE QUOTE.
Mao didn’t say that he wanted people to be “satiable in learning”; he said EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE: he wanted people to “insatiable in learning”. In their minds, he was misunderstood, an agrarian reformer. He meant well, but made some mistakes.
The people you listed all likely think they would be much more efficient and humane than Mao.
Well, except for maybe the 40 million or so of us they would have to kill off, and the other 100 million who would need re-education. But to people like Van Jones, that is just a detail.
The quote doesn’t make sense. Satiable is able to be filled/satisfied.
But at least it is consistent. Mao means indoctrination and that’s the purpose of government schools.
Thank you for sharing this reference. Ironically, just this morning I was reading Mao’s writings about applying Sun Tsu’s ‘Art of War” in his revolutionary war. It is very interesting reading. I read these writings as I always seek to step into and understand the mind or our opposition.

Chang Kuo-tao, also known as Zhang Guotao (November 26, 1897 December 3, 1979) was a founding member and important leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and bitter rival to Mao Zedong. During the 1920s he studied in the Soviet Union and became a key contact with the Comintern and organized the CCP labor movement in the United Front with the Guomindang. In 1931, after the Party had been driven from the cities, he established the E-Yu-Wan Soviet. When his armies were driven from the region, he joined the Long March but lost a contentious struggle for party leadership to Mao Zedong. Zhang’s armies then took a different route from Mao’s and were badly beaten by local forces in Gansu. When his depleted forces finally arrived to join Mao in Yan’an, Zhang continued his losing challenge Mao, and left the party in 1938.
Zhang eventually retired to Toronto, Canada, and became a Christian shortly before his death in 1979.

Dewey didn't want children to learn how to read independently, which is why he re-introduced to Columbia Teachers College "whole language reading," where children are taught to read words as pictographs, as in Chinese, rather than phonetically.
This is a major reason why children graduate from high school without being able to read.
Dewey wanted young children to work together to guess at the meaning of texts. He wasn't interested in the stories or teaching reading. He wanted them to work together, and be "interdependent."
