Tennesee’s outspoken African American female Senate candidate in 2014 spoke to Guns & Patriots about gun rights, racism, and the Bill of Rights.
Gun control historically begins with blacks who were forbidden from owning guns, said Brenda S. Lenard, a 2013 political science PhD candidate from the University of Tennessee and a resident of Kingston.
It was very easy for slave owners to keep and control blacks with gun control, she said.
The same thing is happening today, she said. It is a slow process of gun confiscation.
It starts with certain groups of people, or certain types of rifles, and turns into an outright ban of firearms, said the two-year NRA member.
Lenard said the term racism is over-used. I think that diminishes real issues of racism.
The government should not infringe on anyones rights, she said.
Although blacks were one of the first groups to be targeted, todays gun grab is not just about race, but about fundamentally altering civil rights for all Americans, she said.
The Bill of Rights does not matter anymore, she said. This is about power and control.
Lenard said that federal officials are engrossed with big government instead of limited government. They want to take away our liberties.
The hurdle to own or carry a firearm should not be placed in front of law-abiding citizens, Lenard said.
Everyone should be able to have a gun, she said.
Once our firearms are confiscated, our Bibles are next, she said.
Make no mistake about it; Bibles will be illegal in America if we do not stand up and take our country back, said the Biblical Education and Leadership graduate from Atlanta’s Beaulah Bible College.
The Second Amendment is a God-given right, she said.
As Americans, we should not have to ask permission from our government to protect ourselves, our homes, and our families, Lenard said.
There is no law that deters a criminal from getting a gun, she said.
Gun control has a negative effect on safety, she said. Areas with the strictest gun laws have the highest black on white murder rate.
Lenard said that politics-as-usual permeates Washington D.C. When politicians remain in office for an extended period of time, they become anesthetized to the way people feel.”
The single mother of three said she is running for Senate because she wants to do more than just talk about the problems facing our Nation. I decided that enough is enough.”
Too many politicians are not governing America based upon our founding principles, Lenard said.
It is American principles that allowed me to excel in life; from the projects of Atlanta, Georgia to being a PhD candidate, she continued.
She said she became concerned that a lack of true freedom will prevent others like her from living the American dream.
America is an exceptional nation, she said. Only in America can a person battle their way out of poverty and into the ballot box.
Lenard said politicians live in a bubble. They are out of touch with the values of the American people and out of touch with the Constitution.
She said they are more concerned with pleasing their colleagues than protecting liberty. Thats what I intend to change.”

What's the story with Lamar? Is he running again?
FReepmail me if you want to be on or off my Tennessee list.
I never noticed anyone with a Tennessee ping list. I'm not from Tennessee, but I'm trying to start a list for each state that includes a FReeper with a state ping list for that state if that state doesn't have one already.
If I see a story about Tennessee, I want to let you know. This is not expected to be a high volume ping list.
Do any of you have a state ping list for Tennessee? Do any of you want to volunteer and take my Tennessee list with the intent to grow it? Let me know via FReepmail. Then I can try to work on other states.
I was born in Tennessee (1944), and spent my entire life there until becoming an expat, starting around 2000, and full time expat since 2004.
I consider Tennessee to be the finest state in America, as proven by their rejection of home clown Albert Goreon.
If I HAD to return to the USSA, I would be in no other state
There is a Tennessee message board, but it is not on the general forum.
We need more people like her running for office. She can stand up and say what others cannot because of her race and they will listen. It’s a sad fact but the truth. If a white person said the same things the liberals would tear into them.
Re your state activists drive. You have a great idea .
Go to the masthead and click “accounts” then “my locale” then click on “Tennessee” to get to that state message board. There you will find FR activists select the posters that seem to be activists and ping them with the option on or off. I don’t know what party she’s running in . But you might get some reaction there. The piece your posting is pretty good except it lacks the election dates and party affiliation. It should be printed up using it as a handout using your computers printer.
Keep Up The Good Work
Great news. Somehow Alexander always wins with primary challengers.
He is not my Senator, but he is up for reelection. I would not vote for him
What this women says about the Second Amendment et al is laudible. However, her feelings on it and what she does talk about aren’t the only things I’m interested in, not by a long shot. Her views, at least here are the basic and fundamental views I’d insist on for ANY candidate to be considered, not the be-all and end-all.
I’d want to know much much more. How she feels about rampant entitlement; how she feels about illegal immigrants, border security and spending money we don’t have; what is the best way to get Federal Government out of our lives; how do we remove our domestic enemies? and so on.
She’s standing in front of the constitution with a gun and a Bible! What more do you need?
Haha, just kidding. We need some policy positions from her, but she’s definitely off to a good start! Plus, black, female, conservative? It’s like a lib-head explosive cocktail.
I’m in love.
“House Nigga” label incoming from the left in 3...2...1
Skimmed through her website quickly and she seems great on just about every issue.
They already hit her with that when she ran against Corker last year. She has a bankruptcy and a felony bad check conviction. She has also earned several degrees since then and is a doctoral candidate in political science at U of T so I'd say she's more than turned her life around.
On another note:
We will likely find out that the so-called "hunter" in this Bloom-turd commercial is either an actor or a Democrat or both.

She can’t be worse than either of the two Tennessee senators. I hope she wins. She will get my support and I’m not even from there.
Do you have to get a pardon of the felony to be able to vote or run for office?
It isn’t up to ME to go to her website. It is up to her, her publicist et al to make the story. I’m not from Tennessee so why in the heck would I invest that much time in it? The people of Tenn should be interested.
All I’m saying what the article was about, what it said is pretty basic stuff, and a lot (a lot) more needs to be added to that.
Run for office at the national level? No, there is nothing in the Constitution that would prevent it. Now Tennessee law may prevent her from voting for herself as a convicted felon but she's free to run for the Senate.
Her actions since her conviction have shown she's turned her life around. But count of Alexander to make hay of her past if she appears to be any sort of reasonable threat to him in the primary. And, of course, the Democrats will try to hammer her on it should she win the nomination.
She has a mind, and she’s not afraid to use it. Yessss!!
I’ve heard of Miss Lenard. I didn’t even know what her race was. The problem is that Lamar! isn’t naive on campaigning. He has already declared for reelection and made sure to get virtually every heavy hitter in the state behind him. You’ve got all these people spewing pro-Lamar! talking points, ignoring the fact he was rated the 6th most liberal Republican in the Senate. This isn’t Maine. This is a hyper-Republican and Conservative state now. We should be represented by someone in the top 5 most Conservative, not the bottom.
Unfortunately, even if Miss Lenard could match Lamar! dollar for dollar, our open primary and no runoff allows Democrat chicanery to put the most liberal RINO nominee forward. Until that changes and we also institute a pre-primary convention (a la Utah) to weed out RINOs and liberals, it’s going to remain exceptionally difficult to bounce Lamar! and Corker.
I’m going to send mo I’m going to send money to the anti drone guy too

I don’t know about conventions, sounds like something the paulbots could take over.
But closed primaries are absolutely needed, runoffs as well. With rat primaries being rather trivial in TN now crossovers figure to be an increasing problem.
Is she running again let’s get her elected? Where can we donate?
Her website is very lame.
There’s a “Donate” link under the “Support” menu at the top.
Clearly a poseur. Snazzy shirt, but it totally clashes with the green camo hat. /s
It’s not showing up for me. Is she running or not? The website isn’t clear and needs an upgrade.
