As for CBS in general, I’ve avoided them since the Reagan era.
The day before Pres. Reagan sent troops into Granada he gave a speech.
Dan Rather critiqued the speech before the President even gave it.

and has made several outrageous remarks lately, to the point that there were many calling for Fox to fire him

Mccain defends Kerry in everything he does. So him defending CBS would not be a surprise. And if you defend Mccain, you’re defending Kerry.
