U.S. Marines rattled by bullet shortage

Rank and file told to conserve as Big Sis buys by the billion

At least one branch of the U.S. military is scrimping and saving every bullet it can while the Department of Homeland Security is on a bullet-buying spree.

Marine Corps Commandant James F. Amos blames sequester budget cuts for causing the Corps to have to scrimp and save every bullet.

In a video to Marines, he says, “I ask you to save every round, every gallon of gas, that you take every single aspect, or opportunity, in training to get the most bang for the buck.”

“This is no time to do business as usual. Things have changed. The landscape has changed. I need you to be conservative in the way we do business,” Amos continued.

Sequester cuts do not seem to have slowed down the massive purchase of bullets by DHS. WND bas been closely following the department’s big buildup of ammo, reporting how DHS bought more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the last year.

Members of Congress are demanding the Obama administration explain why it is stockpiling a huge arsenal of ammunition and weapons. “They have no answer for that question. They refuse to answer to answer that,” said Rep. Timothy Huelscamp, R-Kan. Read more at http://www.wnd.com/2013/03/u-s-marines-rattled-by-bullet-shortage/#qyiaWao61ElUU0hD.99

“the DHS has more ammunition than it’ll use in ten years”

Mostly pistol ammo. Where are all the 40 cal. pistols that are going to shoot 2 billion rounds? ChiComs making them?

He has been following closely to Ted Cruz since the election.”

I thought more than once if Cruz stopped quickly, Cornyn would end up with a very flat brown nose. It didn’t take him long to start moving left again though. He was one of the twenty Senators who voted for the CR.

Hopefully we will have a Conservative to run against him in 2014. I did tell him at our Lincoln Day dinner where he spoke that I would not vote for him and why. His response, “I’m sorry you feel that way. There are many things that happen in the Senate that most people are not a party to so it’s often difficult to understand why we take the positions we do. Thank you for sharing your concerns with me.”

Not surprised at all.

In other words, I voted in my own interest.

Long and short, out Federal Gov and the elected officials who appear to run it have sold us out to foreign interests.

Obozo is the clear proof of that.

It must end. Soon.

If the US Marines want DHS ammo and other ordnance, rest assured they will simply go and take them.

This is correct, The DHS was not running a shortage of anything, before this massive buildup,so why then, the buildup? People better take this seriously. Someone either predicts a financial or social meltdown, or intends to create one. There can be no good intent to this buildup. This worries me more than any of the other crap that Obama has pulled.

maybe the nearly 2 trillion $ stimulus package did not work because it was spent to arm the DHS?

Hum?

I recently had a conversation with an Army commander. He was telling me that a live fire exercise had been postponed. For lack of ammo.

Nice, huh?

So the DOD can’t find any overpaid fat-ass civilians in the Pentagon to lay off instead of cutting troop supplies?

“wholesale executions of Americans”

Nah, that would only use up a third of the ammo, unless they know they are really bad shots ... but wholesale executions of Americans would achieve one of the long standing goals of the American left - US population reduction - save the environment and all.

What stinks is not so much their purchases, but their refusal to answer why to Congress.

Obviously, there is some planned ‘crisis’ coming which either by itself or has the potential to become violent ...

I would suspect that the ‘crisis’ will variously revolve around immigration, gun confiscation, elimination of all or part of the Constitution - but specifically the Twenty-second Amendment allowing Our King to remain in office indefinitely.

They already plan to “lay off” 750K “lazy” govt workers. That’s the ticket.

The military don’t use .40 cal. 5.56 and 9mm is standard issue. All the other stuff is heavy and not used by civilian forces.

DHS will be rolled up in a few hours if they go against the military. MRAPS will not last one minute against any kind of attack helo.

So lets pretend we are playing Risk. let me think.. Spread the enemies army out all over the world, using up all of their ammo, resources and do all sorts of stuff that causes heavy damage to their moral, watching them die in battle or kill themselves- while I stockpile ammo and tanks, and build a zombie military of starving people addicted to free food- and take everyone’s guns, turn the food stamps off- flood the communities with criminals who will shoot for food.

Yea-I think that might work.

When in battle they do conserve ammo and fuel as they do know the supply is limited on the field of battle due to logistics.

The most recent stat I read on the number of rounds per dead enemy is in the range of 500,000 rounds per dead Jihadi.

WW I — 7,000 rounds/casualty
WW II — 25,000 rounds/casualty
Korea — 50,000 rounds/casualty
Vietnam — 200,000 rounds/casualty
Iraq — 500,000+ rounds/casualty

This in increase in ammo use is despite the fact that the current conflict is unique in that virtually every Soldier is issued either an unmagnified optical sighting device such as the Aimpoint, MARS or the Eo Tech, or a magnified optic such as a Trijicon ACOG, ELCAN 145 or Elcan Specter, Schmidt and Bender, ect or any one of a multitude of personally purchased optical sighting devices.

It is also running counter to the trend of integrating a Designated Marksman fielding a precision rifle and optic down to the unit level.

The concept of making every round count is a mindset that has not exactly been in vogue over the last few years.

FTA:

Additionally, the DHS is buying hollow-point bullets, which experts say are rarely used for training exercices. The DHS ordered 240,000 hollow-point rounds last month and has now placed an order for 360,000 more rounds.(Emphasis added.)

Remarkable. Now it turns out the HP rounds aren't generally used for training, possibly, IMHO, because they're about three times as costly per round as FMJ. That, of course, destroys much of the explanation for the HP purchases, meaning a straight explanation is that much more essential.

The shooting will start long before the food runs out.

It will begin when the alcohol and drugs begin to run out.

Think of it as Urban Renewal.

Any ammo shortage at this point is political posturing.

All ammo buy contracts have been in place for a long time. New contracts are not being issued as the war winds down

Our Military used the recent conflict to top off the ammo reserves depleted during the Clinton Administration so we have a lot of ammunition socked away.
