As the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in two high-profile cases this week - California's Proposition 8 and the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act - 60 percent of Americans think the federal government should legally recognize existing same-sex marriages and provide them the same federal benefits the government provides to heterosexual married couples. Just 35 percent do not think the government should do this.
The legality of same-sex marriage varies by state. When it comes to who should decide this issue, most Americans- 62 percent - think the decision should be left up to each individual state government, while just 26 percent think it should be up to the federal government.
Meanwhile, a slight majority of Americans (53 percent) thinks it should be legal for same-sex couples to marry.

We really need to start acknowledging reality if we ever have any hopes of changing it.
True. In blue states they get 60%. In red states it’s about 30%.
There is one sure fire way to determine this. Create a Constitutional Amendment, call it the Civil Union Amendment and let the country vote.
I guarantee it will not get 67% of the Senate, the Majority of Governorships nor Congress. Of course the President will do it by Executive Fiat and the media will call him courageous.

Just ask yourself what polls are for, and how was it taken. You can get the results you want by being judicious about how and where you take the poll.
Living in the deep south I say the same. No way this poll isn’t rigged.
There is not going to be a constitutional amendment regarding marriage.
At this point it looks like Prop 8 will go down by SCOTUS action, inaction or a vote of the people to overturn Prop 8.

The reality is that the 4 Liberal states that voted for it is not representative of the rest of the nation. One of those states was just a vote not to allow a State Constitutional ban.
If a majority really want gay marriage then they should move to states where it’s legal and leave normal states alone.
All I’m saying is that we can no longer make the claim that “it gets defeated every time it gets a state vote”. Not after a clean sweep.
And with the way it’s polling now across the country, we’re more likely to see popular votes to allow it in the coming years than to ban it.
Honesty matters, even when the news is bad. Maybe *especially* then.

So if they could barely pass the referendums in extremely liberal states, how the hell do they expect us to believe 60 percent support same sex marriage?
Just a year before, North Carolina passed a law that doesn’t even recognize civil unions, correct?

Americans better not forget the camel’s nose in the tent. If homosexuald ought to be able tomarry whom they love, then so should those who love two people or three or their ????
Children deserve their own biological parents in an intact home. Those who will not do that should not be supported by the society.

Twice in California, we defeated the gay marriage issue. Overwhelmingly, a vote for traditional marriage. In California. Yet the 1 percenter activists got judges to block the vote. Why bother voting, if the majority gets overruled by butt licking judges?
The US populous is to stupid to know the difference between Civil Union and Marriage, and the MSM is purposely blurring the difference.
