— Pedro Quezada said he was walking past Eagle Liquor in Passaic on Monday when he noticed a commotion. He wondered whether someone had won the lottery there.
"I thought maybe the winning ticket was sold in this store," Quezada said, referring the $338 million Powerball jackpot that was drawn this weekend.
So just after 4 p.m., Quezada took the ticket he bought there and scanned it through the liquor store's lottery machine.
Suddenly, the 44-year-old Dominican immigrant and father of five got life-changing news: He had won the fourth-largest jackpot in Powerball history.
"I had no idea I was the winner," Quezada, a Passaic resident and bodega owner, recalled this afternoon through a translator at a press conference at the state lottery headquarters in Lawrenceville. "When it was checked, the gentleman at the counter said, 'Congratulations.'"

Probably tired of running down deadbeats who bounce checks.
“The room was filled with about 50 reporters, photographers and TV camera men — many from Spanish-speaking publications and stations.
Quezada noted that he was 19 when he moved to America from the Dominican Republic 26 years ago. The reason?
“To work,” he said.”
Never learned English. Only 1 in millions wins lottery.
Good for him.

Seriously, good for him. The lotteries of this country have certainly collected a lot more than that from immigrants who are bad at math.
He did win life’s lottery.
Yeah, after state and federal taxes, he will be shocked to see what he really won.
So, twenty-six years here in the U.S. of A. and this guy never bothered to learn English.
If I ever won that much money, my first order of business would be to make myself as anynomous and inaccessable to the general public as possible. I would avoid the media to the extent that I could.
Good Luck if he moves back home. Will he be rolled or will he thrive as one of the new rich?
The old American Dream was earned success, living a productive life with purpose to ones potential.
The New American Dream is ‘Get Rich Quick’.
Unfortunately he didn’t know he won. He walked into the liquor store, saw the press and “validated” his ticket.
Some states don’t allow one to remain anonymous if one won.
That being said....
I won four bucks.
When the taxes get finished withhim they will cut that down, but even so he can almost vacation like Obama
He needs to get the hell out fast. I hear Figi or Bora Bora is nice for the rest of your life.
He speaks Spanish so he doesn't need to learn English. My Russian wife, on the other hand, discovered there is no "Press 3 for Russian" and has become quite proficient at English in the five years she's lived here.
Funny how that works.
