Ivory-billed woodpecker and Steller’s sea cow, for me.

And mammoth too.

No short-faced bears. No way.

They’re on the “drive into extinction” list.

You know you've been freeping too long, when you can see an acronym like that for the very first time, and know what it means :-)

I thought a quagga was a zebra-like thing, not a bird?

More cool ones: Moa, Haast’s eagle, megalania.

Have heard that some NZers think it is still around, but habitat so dense, is nearly imposible to find.

You have a choice of white meat or dark meat.

It would be something to see a Haast’s eagle take down a moa.

I believe there are a couple of ivory-billed woodpeckers on some Caribbean islands.

I thought an Ibex was a type of antelope. Never heard of a Pyrenean Ibex horse. I am a horse breeder and well versed in history, breeds etc. I've never heard of this animal, whatever it is.

There are supposedly Ivory Bills in swamps in Ark. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some in quite a few Southern swamps. I live in Alabama and know for a fact there are critters here that “experts” say are not.

Thanks NoLibZone. The new ish of Nat Geog has this as the cover story.

Just adding to the catalog, not sending a general distribution.

To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.

The Passenger Pigeon or Wild Pigeon

:sigh:

People do realize why this bird was hunted in the first place, right?

"We were able to analyse auroch DNA from preserved bone material and create a rough map of its genome that should allow us to breed animals nearly identical to aurochs," said team leader Donato Matassino, head of the Consortium for Experimental Biotechnology in Benevento, in the southern Campania region.

The Tasmanian Tiger was a marsupial.

BTW - I live in an Agenda 21 "large predator" corridor. Do you want to relocate me so some on your list - the Smilodon, formerly local - won't run into me toting a .505 Gibbs?
