.22 LR Handgun for Self Defense? CCI Stinger Ammo Test (From a Ruger SR22)(Video)

Test of the CCI Stinger, 32 gr copper-plated hollowpoint, from the Ruger SR22 handgun. The SR22 has a 3.5" barrel. Will the short barrel affect performance of what is typically known as a varmint load for rifles? There is also a "bonus" about halfway through the test.

BTW, this ammo was purchased during the "shortage" of early 2013, from the Nashville Armory. First "Stingers" I had seen in several months.

Placed into a long term survival situation, on foot and allowed only one firearm, it would probably be my pick.

I also have a shorter barreled stainless model, but it's not a Mark II.

The SR22 is a great little pistol (so I've heard). This is from the Ruger website. MSRP is $439.00. Just a little pricey.

I do have a Ruger Single Six and although have never used the 22 mag cylinder, think I will go pick up a few boxes of 22 mag tomorrow and put it into use. Should have just got them today and saved the trip. Oddly, no one else in the area seems to be interested in them as they have been sitting there for weeks.

I have a 35 year old S&W 22 revolver. I’ve never had a failure to fire with it. I have had them when using semi-automatics, so I’m guessing some semi-autos aren’t hitting with enough whack, to use the technical terms...

I’m thinking my next rimfire will be the Henry 22 mag pump.

A little pricey, but pump shot guns are what I learned with as a kid so they always feel natural and I have never had a pump rifle.

I’ve seen SR-22s going for about $349. If you can find them.

22WMR is 22 mag. The only 22mag I’ve seen was rat shot.
The range is a bit limited. :-) Interesting that almost all common use ammo is not for sale. Almost everyone has a .22 rifle, or even a few. But now you can’t by ammo. So they have almost disarmed the masses by stopping the sale of ammo. Save what you have and buy what you can.

There’s a twist to that. .22 LR is notorious for after care lethality due to peritonitis. The bullet is just gifted for making tiny internal nicks, so the shootee will be in the hospital, in recovery, seeming to do fine... then suddenly they will get a 105F+ temperature and be dead within a few hours, no matter what the doctors do.

Any .22 LR in the abdomen and I would recommend to start pumping them full of antibiotics as soon as they arrive.

But not a whole lot of doctors know this trivia.

All I need to know is, will it penetrate a blue helmet?

I’m not sure a lot of people know just what damage a CCI Stinger can do. It is wicked. In my opinion it is the best .22LR round there is, and in some circumstances it is more destructive than a .22WMR. On varmints and small game I usually go for a head shot with a CCI Stinger, because a shot in the vitals can destroy too much meat.
