Not just escaped - people in the mountains of Southern Appalachia at least, used to let them run til it was time to harvest them. Some would mark them for identification as belonging to a specific family. Of course, they bred...
I am surprised they are not as much of a problem here as in the more western states. Rather run into a black bear any day, and never go out in the woods without the means to take one down.

Perhaps they should use a less lethal weapon with a 30-round magazine? :)

The phenomenon is that the land owners in the states where this problem is going hog wild charge so flippin’ much to hunt the hogs on their land then complain there are so many hogs.

I’m OK with free enterprise, but bring the cost down so the common man can enter this private property on a regualr basis to help eradicate the hogs and there will be enough numbers of hunters to match the rate of procreation, or quit bitchin’.

My farm about 100 miles NW of Dallas, Texas is overrun with them. Killed 11 last year and have recent trail cam pic with 12 in the view! I use an AR-15 in .223mm or an AR-10 .308. Both are effective.

They are domestic hogs that got lose and turned to foraging in the wild. They can tear up a field overnight. We have a lot of them about ten miles to the NW of our area. One of the ranchers lets people come to his place and hunt them for free. We saw one 300 - 350 lb hog dead next to the road a few years ago. Bet it really messed up whatever hit it.

The pigs do not cooperate, as they scatter with gunfire, so if you are facing a herd of 15-20, the best bet would be four hunters with AR-15s, with very, very clear fire zones.

And I would hazard to guess you will still lose 3-5 of them.

And you’re also going to need a flatbed truck with small crane to police them up.

There is a reason that the professional hunter in the video uses night vision and is more than happy to have help along. Doing this by yourself is like doing an 8-hour, cross training workout of running and power lifting.
